Rowling, and other feminists modify their stands on certain things as they see the outcomes of the left's philosophy which were totally predictable. Men competing against women in sporting events? What's a woman? Who knows?

Global warming really is alarming. All these extreme weather events that we've never seen before!

Yeah, right!

The unexpected blizzard of the headline happened after Christmas. It was an "extratropical cyclone blizzard winter story" and piled on a record snowfall in the northeast. New York City saw over 26 inches of snow in fewer than 24 hours when the white stuff fell at a rate of three inches an hour.  Seventy-seven people died, public transportation ground to a stop. Buses and cars were abandoned in the streets making them nearly impassable for emergency vehicles. Telephone and electric service was spotty due to downed power and phone lines.

I love Ben Stein! I loved his movie, Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. What a joy to see that arrogant so-called scientist, Richard Dawkins, appear like the fanatical nutcase he is speculating that aliens seeded the planet with life. Hey, it makes as much sense as the primordial soup.

Then there's the delightful column he wrote about Christmas controversy where he described how much he enjoyed Christmas trees and wished everyone a Merry Christmas.

Feeling bad? Try a little gratitude!

One of the things that always struck me about G.K. Chesterton is that he practiced gratitude for everything. He said, why just say grace before meals? Say grace before everything. I thought of him when I read Ben Stein's article this morning. Thank you, Lord, for another day. Help me to realize what a paradise it really is with its simple pleasures. Help me today to practice an attitude of gratitude.

Just another day in paradise.

Happy St. Nicholas Day!

Every time you see that jolly man in the red suit remember the real man behind the white beard, St. Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, who was persecuted and imprisoned under the Roman emperor Diocletian. The Merrifield nursery in northern Virginia used to have a wonderful Santa who explained to the older children that he was the "clown of Christmas." Then using a model of the nativity scene he explained to children the real meaning of Christmas. We took our children to see him more years ago than I care to think about. But he seemed timeless so maybe he's still there or has passed his gentle faith onto another Santa filling his shoes. I hope so.

Don't forget during this season to keep Christ in Christmas. You can do that in a number of ways. Light your advent wreath every evening and sing O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. Send cards with a religious theme. If you go caroling be sure to include songs like Away in the Manger and O Holy Night and not just politically correct "holiday" songs like Jingle Bells. If someone wishes you "Happy Holidays" respond with a smile and "a happy holy day to you too." St. Nicholas Day anticipates the coming of the Christ child. And how Christians look forward to that day. Let us rejoice and be glad and share our joy with all those around us. And don't be shy. No one who has any sense is offended by the Christmas spirit, as is illustrated by Ben Stein's wonderful essay. Have a happy advent and a holy St. Nick's day.
