FOCA goes underground

Planned Parenthood head Cecile Richards is backing off the demand for FOCA passage in the light of increased opposition from organized groups all over the country. The bishops' postcard campaign, the Fight FOCA drive, opposition groups on Facebook, etc. are all playing a part. Add to that several hundred thousand pro-lifers marching on Washington January 22nd against abortion and FOCA. The crowd may not have rivaled the inauguration mob but certainly has a chilling effect on the Obama unity message. He sure isn't bringing us together on abortion and never will.

But the pro-deathers are no fools. What they can't get in one giant step, they will happily take by inches. And they will do it with the sugar-coated lie and the newspeak that paints abortion and abortifacient birth control as "women's health care."

Charmaine Yoest at Americans United for Life Action warns that, "Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood, and others are saying that they aren’t going to try to pass the 'Freedom of Choice Act' (FOCA). Don’t believe it for a second. If your opponent gives up the frontal attack . . . you better start watching your flank.
We are now seeing the abortion forces waging an incremental battle — working to pass what we have termed 'FOCA-by-Stealth.' They think that if they take FOCA and repackage it and pass it in pieces and under different names . . . that we won’t notice."

Sign the Fight FOCA petition and send letters to Congress. Watch the fine print and when they use their doubletalking newspeak recognize it for what it is. Obama is not the unity candidate. He is a die hard deathdealer who speaks in honeyed terms while he plans the next attack on the untermenchen in the womb.

And while you're thinking politics, here's an action that can make a big difference at the local level! Planned Parenthood receives hundreds of millions of dollars every year in taxpayer dollars, but that can be stopped if enough Americans take the pledge. What do you promise? Not to vote in the next election for any politician who votes a single dollar for Planned Parenthood. Virginians for Life is spearheading this effort in my state and hopes to go national in the future with this activity. All politics is local. Make your state and local politicians pay for funneling your hard-earned tax dollars into the pockets of the PP abortionists.

Join the FOCA Novena

Barack Obama has promised one of his first acts will be to pass the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). The ramifactions are widespread. It will overturn all laws currently protecting, even minimally, unborn children. It will force healthcare workers and pharmacists to participate in direct cooperation of evil.

Catholics are being called to join in a rosary novena to stop FOCA beginning on Janurary 11th. Read about FOCA and the novena here and sign the petition against FOCA here. God has often intervened in human history because of prayer. Many people witness to the power of the rosary in their own lives. Please join in this important spiritual battle.

Bishops Plan to Fight FOCA

The bishops made it clear at their annual fall meeting that they will fight FOCA (Freedom of Choice Act). And now a postcard campaign is in the works. I remember the bishops' 1994 postcard campaign urging Congress to keep abortion and contraception out of any universal health care plan. It was launched at a July press conference on Capitol Hill. Several hundred people attended including myself with my mom, my adult daughter, and my two-year-old granddaughter. A friend took a photo of our four generations of pro-life women to commemorate the event. At the time I was chairman of my parish's pro-life committee and coordinated the drive. It was an impressive effort with millions of cards delivered to the Hill. By all means let's do it again.

But I'd like to suggest something else to go with it that will impress Congress much more than a stack of postcards with a pre-printed message collecting dust in the corner of a congressional office, something that occurred about six months before the bishops' press conference and organized by a different group -- home schoolers. In February 1994 Congressman George Miller attached an amendment to HR 6, a reappropriatons bill for the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. It required teachers in full-time schools to be certified in the subject they were teaching. The amendment read:

"Each State applying for funds under this title shall provide the Secretary with the assurance that after July 1, 1998, it will require each local educational agency within the State to certify that each full time teacher in schools under the jurisdiction of the agency is certified to teach in the subject area to which he or she is assigned."

While the amendment said nothing about home schooling, it raised a red flag for lawyers at the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). Many local school administrators across the country consider private and home schools "under [their] jurisdiction" and the bill could be used to threaten home schoolers who obviously could not be certified in every subject, particularly at the high school level. HSLDA attempted to negotiate with Miller, but he wouldn't budge. Congressman Dick Armey introduced an amendment to specifically exclude home schools from the bill, but it was rejected by Democrats on a straight party line vote. Since Miller was a staunch advocate of the NEA (National Education Association) which strongly opposed home schooling, HR 6 looked like a backhanded way to regulate and limit home schoolers.

Telephone trees and home school associations across the country went into high gear. James Dobson, Rush Limbaugh, and other radio personalities helped expose the story. Over the next few days home schoolers generated over a million telephone calls to Capitol Hill, 20,000 to Representative Miller's office alone. They literally shut Congress down. There was certainly no business as usual and the lawmakers were shocked and overwhelmed at the reaction to what they presumed was an innocuous piece of legislation.

In the end, the objectionable amendment was defeated and Dick Armey's amendment carried in the House 374-53. [You can read more details about this exciting success story in Part VI section B of The Politics of Survival by Scott W. Somerville, Esq.]

If the bishops are really serious about stopping FOCA they need more than a postcard campaign. They must generate the same intense grassroots activity for the unborn that the home schoolers did for their own children. We know CINOs (Catholics in Name Only) are unlikely to support this effort. The unborn are invisible to them. But faithful Catholics, united with other pro-life Christian churches, orthodox Jews, pro-life Mormons, etc. can overwhelm the culture of death on Capitol Hill with a pro-life avalanche.

Let every bishop call a press conference to launch the "Call for Life" campaign. Let every parish priests preach on the value of each tiny baby, our littlest brothers and sisters, and urge their congregations to pick up the phones. Let ecumenical religious groups network together as "Christians and Jews united to stop FOCA."

Imagine if every voter at the March for Life on January 22nd pulled out his or her cell phone and called Congress saying "Stop FOCA."

Discouragement is not an option. Despite the election of a radically pro-abortion President and the most pro-abortion legislature in history we are a people of God with faith in the power of the Holy Spirit. By the grace of God through the intercession of Our Lady we can restore our country. Let it begin with the "Call for Life Campaign."

Will Obama Risk Holy Hell Over FOCA?

Ray Kerrison of the New York Post has a powerful article,Obama's Holy Hell questioning whether, as new president, Obama will really risk all-out war with the Catholic hierarchy over FOCA. It begins:

"IF President-elect Barack Obama goes through with his campaign pledge to sign into law the Freedom of Choice Act, holy hell is going to break loose.

"FOCA may be the most radical social legislation in decades. It seeks to strip every last restraint from abortion - outlawing states' requirements for waiting periods, informed consent or parental consent; preventing health and safety regulation of abortion clinics and abortionists - and even ending restrictions on partial-birth abortion.

"With one stroke of the president's pen, it would nullify every one of the 330 or so federal, state and local abortion laws on the books, most of them supported by a majority of Americans.

"And that's just the start.....(more)

The E- word, that is excommunication, comes up with Cardinal George saying, depending on the wording of the law, it may be a real possibility for any Catholic politician who would formally cooperate with evil by voting for FOCA.

As a serious Catholic who has watched the bishops tapdance and sway over many issues, I hope they will finally find their spines and stand firm on a moral position that is unnegotiable. It's long past time for them to enforce Canon Law 915 and refuse Communion to pro-abortion Catholic politicians like Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, Ted Kennedy and all the rest who call themselves "devout Catholics" while they vote to murder children and destroy marriage. Faithful Catholics need to hold their bishops' feet to the fire and take back the Church demanding that the bishops preach Humanae Vitae, discipline those scandalizing the flock, and stop waffling on doctrine. If the evil positions of Barack Obama cause that to happen, his election may turn out to be a blessing even if it results in active persecution.

Parental Consent Laws Protect Minor Girls

Among the likely fatalities that will result from electing Barack Obama president are parental notification laws. If the Freedom of Choice Act passes (and it almost assuredly will in a Democratic-controlled Congress) parental notification will be outlawed. What does that mean for minor girls? More sexual predators covering up their crimes by taking them for abortion - over and over again in some cases.

California police Sgt. Tom Yarrington has investigated over 1,000 sex abuse cases, most involving minors. Parental involvement, he says, "gives us better investigative leads, allows us to locate more victims and allows us to provide earlier intervention - not only to provide the help that the child needs to make it through this time, but it is also going to assist us in stopping further abuse from occurring to that victim and, potentially, other victims." President-elect Obama claims he wants to reduce abortion. Studies show that parental notification/consent laws do reduce abortion. Let the Obama transition team know that you want real protection for women, especially minor girls targeted by adult predators. FOCA will contribute to the exploitation of minors and Planned Parenthood has shown they are willing to abet sexual abuse by covering up. Obama's promise to pass FOCA is part of the problem, not the solution. Stop FOCA. Sign the petition and fight with prayer and action.

More Margaret Sanger Fascism

In today's culture of death, many elitists who fling around the word "choice" have nothing but contempt for individual rights. They are perfectly willing for the masses to choose as long as they make the "right choice" which is the one the elites know is good for them. Margaret Sanger was one of those elitists who detested freedom for those she considered unfit. The organization she founded, the American Birth Control League (later Planned Parenthood), continues to walk in her fascist footsteps. Sanger proposed the American Baby Code in 1934 in an article in American Weekly Magazine. It would more appropriately be called the American No-Baby Code. These are the poisoned roots of Planned Parenthood which continues to be a baby's worst nightmare. It is also the organization that Barack Obama has promised to expand through signing the Freedom of Choice Act. FOCA is more accurately described as the No Freedom of Choice Act since it will invalidate all current laws protecting the unborn and eliminate the rights of voters to pass state laws about abortion. FOCA entrenches and expands the murder of the unborn exponentially. Margaret Sanger would have approved. In fact, she very likely would have been Obama's choice to head Health and Human Services. The American Baby Code

Article 1. The purpose of the American Baby Code shall be to provide for a better distribution of babies. To assist couples who wish to prevent overproduction of offspring and thus to reduce the burden of charity and taxation for public relief and to protect society against the propagation and increase of the unfit.

Article 2. Birth control clinics shall be permitted to function as services of government health departments or under the support of charity, or as non-profit, self-sustaining agencies subject to inspection and control by public authorities.

Article 3. A marriage license shall in itself give husband and wife only the right to a common household and not the right to parenthood.

Article 4. No woman shall have the legal right to bear a child, no man shall have the right to become a father, without a permit for parenthood.

Article 5. Permits for parenthood shall be issued by government authorities to married couples upon application, providing the parents are financially able to support the expected child, have the qualifications needed for proper rearing of the child, have no transmissible diseases, and on the woman’s part no indication that maternity is likely to result in death or permanent injury to health.

Article 6. No permit for parenthood shall be valid for more than one birth.

Article 7. Every county shall be assisted administratively by the states in the effort to maintain a direct ratio between county birth rate and its index of child welfare. When the county records show an unfavorable variation from this ratio the county shall be taxed by the State…. The revenues thus obtained shall be expended by the State within the given county in giving financial support to birth control…..

Article 8. Feeble-minded persons, habitual congenital criminals, those afflicted with inheritable diseases, and others found biologically unfit should be sterilized or in cases of doubt should be isolated as to prevent the perpetuation of their afflictions by breeding.
