Sunday Meditation: Did the Bishops Really Consecrate the Nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus?

On June 11th the bishops ostensibly consecrated the U.S. to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. But did they? What is a consecration? Here's the prayer they offered. As you read it find, if you can, the point where they consecrated the nation to the Sacred Heart:

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus: You know the longings of our hearts, and you desire that we enjoy friendship with you. From your pierced side, you have poured out the wellspring of life, for which we thirst. Your heart burns with a love for all people to return to a right relationship with you.

Do the Bishops Understand Islam? Will they ever learn?

I wrote the article below on Islam back in 2016. Here we are a decade later and what is our relationship with Islam today? Places in the United States (as well as many other Western nations) have no-go zones and rule by Sharia Law. Violence against non-Muslims is on the rise especially in the Middle East and Africa. The recent fraud in Minnesota robbing the state of billions of dollars was primarily the work of Muslims from Somalia. Not only that, but some of that money went to fund the Somali terror group al-Shabob [source]. 

The Bishops Left Baltimore; Did They Leave Us Behind as Well?

Things are a mess these days. The culture is a mess, the political landscape is a mess, the schools are a mess, the family is a mess. 

Francis didn't need to tell everyone to "make a mess" because the mess has been in the making for decades with one pope after another telling us that all faiths lead to God as they advance syncretism and undermine the reality that there is one true faith and one true Savior. 

The Church, which should be the main housekeeper cleaning up the mess, has, in many ways, become the messiest of all. The German Church allows gay masses, a vampire mass; anything edgy and bizarre makes the cut. The CDF (Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith), which is supposed to defend the faith, is run by a cardinal who wrote a sexually explicit book on kissing and, from all evidence, may have deep-sixed his own faith years ago. Sodomy champion Jesuit Fr. James Martin is welcomed at the Vatican while those who dare to embrace the traditions of our forefathers are ridiculed and despised. Yes, indeed, things are a mess.

Remembering the Bishops' Safe Touch Programs! Do bishops learn from their mistakes?

With the bishops going after the Trump administration for its policies on the illegal invasion at the border, it might be useful to remember some other policies introduced by the U.S. Catholic bishops. Their motives often seem to be more about protecting themselves than concern for the flock. That's exactly what happened with the bishops" Charter on Protecting Children developed after the bishops' meeting in Dallas in 2002 where they addressed the sex abuse crisis. The bishops focused attention on the priests in the parishes and laity instructing children in CCD classes. I spent about 25 years in religious education and quit when the new policies were instituted, because they were more about protecting the bishops than protecting the children. The bishops exempted themselves from oversight and some continued covering up abuse and bullying parents to remain silent. Full transparency is needed at every level in the Church. Take a walk back through the history and pray that the bishops will learn from past mistakes. They seem a little obtuse when it comes to self examination. Well, well, well -- The USCCB is suing the Trump Administration because they cut off the gravy train!

You will never hear the term "illegal alien" from the U.S. bishops. Every law breaker violating our borders is a poor "refugee" and we must "welcome the stranger." But don't expect them to be welcomed into the bishops residence or the chancery. 

A Challenge to the U.S. Bishops on Their Support for the Illegal Invasion

J.D. Vance recently called out the USCCB (U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops) over their hypocritical policy on immigration and deportation. The fact is that everyone who enters our country illegally commits a criminal act. The pope recently established a policy tightening the Vatican borders and increasing penalties for violaters. Most parishes have signs in their parking lots saying trespassers will be towed. Do the bishops have an open door policy at their chanceries or the USCCB building in D.C. or their personal homes? Short answer: NO! Long answer: HELL NO!

Ember Days? What are they and what happened to them?

Today begins one of the quarterly periods observed by the Catholic Church called "Ember Days." I remember them growing up. Our Catholic calendar showed a half fish meaning that on those days (Wednesday and Saturday) meat could only be eaten at the main meal. Friday, of course, was a day of complete abstinence. All three days were fast days (one main meal and two smaller meals that did not add up to a full meal).

Of the Latest Attack by a Black Racist, the USCCB on Racism, and Bigotry in General: Let's Just Stop It!

This video shows the vicious attack by an Antifa mob against journalist Andy Gno  in Portland, OR in 2019. Gno was also attacked by Antifa in 2021. The video below is an example of bigotry of belief. Antifa claims to be "anti-fascist" as they use violence and hatred against those who oppose their ideas. They are themselves fascists! Not all bigotry is racist but all racism is bigotry.

I'm going to focus primarily on racism in this post.

USCCB Document on the Eucharist Part III: When Will the Bishops Act Like St. Ambrose?

Today is the feast of St. Ambrose, whose election to the see of Milan was by acclimation of the people while he was still a catechumen. Think about that! He was baptized, ordained, and made a bishop within a week of becoming a Catholic. God raised him up as one of the greatest bishops of His Church, a saint-maker instrumental in the conversion of St. Augustine who inspired the repentance of an emperor. I invoke his intercession for this post!

St. Ambrose, refusing Emperor Theodosius entrance to the cathedral of Milan for his massacre in Thessalonica in retaliation for the murder of a state official. Theodosius' crimes pale in comparison to those of our modern pro-abortion Catholic politicians.

We're approaching the finish line as we look at the last nine paragraphs of the bishops' document, The Mystery of the Eucharist in the Life of the Church (#50-59).

USCCB Document on the Eucharist Part II: Sin Alienates us from God

The section of the Eucharistic document on sin, sacrifice, and the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist (paragraphs 10-50) reaffirms and summarizes the truths Catholics believe about the Eucharist. The bishops affirm the truth that sin separates us from God, and that Jesus came to save us from sin and reunite us to the Father. The sacrifice on Calvary and Christ's resurrection are the "eternal sign of His love," and the Mass is a re-presentation of that sacrifice. The holy Mass acts as a doorway "through which we, like the saints and mystics before us, may enter into a deeper perception of the mercy and love manifested in and through Christ’s sacramental presence in our midst." We should approach Almighty God, present in the Eucharist with holy fear (awe) and trembling. 

USCCB Document on the Eucharist - Part I - Longing for the Eucharist

I'm reading the USCCB document on the Eucharist approved at their do-nothing November conclave. 

It didn't take me very far into the document before I laughed sardonically and rolled my eyes. In fact it was the third paragraph:

Many of the faithful appear to have had their faith and their desire for the Eucharist strengthened by such a long separation.

Really? 

I don't think so, just judging from the sparser attendance at my local novus ordo parish since Wuhan and the bishops' kowtowing to Caesar. But that's a subjective observation of one small faith community. 

So let's take a look at a recent survey conducted by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) which interviewed several thousand young Catholics between the ages of 18 and 35 from all over the country.

One More Do-Nothing Bishops' Meeting -- Business as Usual.

You've no doubt heard the story of the committee of blind men who tried to describe an elephant. Each touched a different part of the beast. The one who touched the side said he was like a wall. The one who touched the trunk said he was like giant snake. The one who touched his leg said he was like a very large cow. None of them got it right. 

Every year the bishops get together twice at great cost to Catholics across the country. They jabber and hob-nob, make nice with each other, talk to the press, and accomplish pretty much NOTHING. Like the blind men who failed to "see" the elephant, they continue to embrace their willful blindness toward the little ones in the womb, refusing to call child murder the preeminent issue of our day or call proabortion politicians to repentance.

    The Catholic Church is not a political party. It is a defender of the moral law. Jesus is not partisan and would never support a particular political group, such as the Democrats or Republicans. Rather Jesus would vote to uphold the moral teachings He has entrusted to His Church for safekeeping through the Pope and Magisterium, i.e. the bishops in communion with the Pope. Thus Jesus would be oriented to specific issues to determine and support those that are in accord with His divine law, and permit flexibility of choice to the people whenever the issues are primarily secular rather than divinely mandated. This is entirely consistent with His mandate to “Render to Caesar (the world) the things that are Caesar’s, and render to God the things that are God’s.” From this frame of reference, consider the following issues that have become the focal point of the 2020 presidential campaign: 

God’s Things 

One must preserve God’s Law by always opposing:

• Abortion 
• Same-sex marriage/LGBT
• Embryonic stem cell research 
• Cloning 
• Infanticide 
• Euthanasia
