Are You Eating Poisoned Food?

Yes! We all are. Thanks to groups like Monsanto we're all consuming glyphosate. It's in the food supply, even non-GMOs and organic crops are tainted with glyphosate. And when I read that every sample of honey no matter where it comes from has glyphosate in it...well...that made me downright mad.

Monsanto is Scrambling

I'm also concerned for my grandchildren. An MIT researcher predicts that by 2025 half of children will be diagnosed as autistic and that the symptoms of autism closely resemble glyphosate toxicity as well as the symptoms of dementia. I'd like to think all of this is just alarmist, but it makes sense that putting all this poison on crops may have unintended consequences. I expect this is one of the factors affecting the bee populations too.

It makes sense from a spiritual point of view as well. Think of the plagues of Egypt. We've poisoned our spiritual lives with sin because we worship the pleasures of the world and we've poisoned our physical lives with chemicals because we worship our green lawns. Give me a field of dandelions any day!

Rethink Roundup! Glyphosate is Toxic!

Roundup herbicide damages sperm cells, affects reproductive system


This reports on a very small study, nevertheless, it indicates some serious problems with the pesticide. Roundup is everywhere: used in agriculture, on yards, in parks. What impact is it having on the reproductive health of men? Think of children exposed to it over and over on sports fields. How much of it is leeching into the groundwater? How many health problems can be linked to the overuse of chemicals like Roundup.

Glyphosate-based herbicides are the most widely used across the world; they are commercialized in different formulations. Their residues are frequent pollutants in the environment. In addition, these herbicides are spread on most eaten transgenic plants, modified to tolerate high levels of these compounds in their cells. Up to 400 ppm of their residues are accepted in some feed. We exposed human liver HepG2 cells, a well-known model to study xenobiotic toxicity, to four different formulations and to glyphosate, which is usually tested alone in chronic in vivo regulatory studies. We measured cytotoxicity with three assays (Alamar Blue, MTT, ToxiLight), plus genotoxicity (comet assay), anti-estrogenic (on ERalpha, ERbeta) and anti-androgenic effects (on AR) using gene reporter tests. We also checked androgen to estrogen conversion by aromatase activity and mRNA. All parameters were disrupted at sub-agricultural doses with all formulations within 24h. These effects were more dependent on the formulation than on the glyphosate concentration. First, we observed a human cell endocrine disruption from 0.5 ppm on the androgen receptor in MDA-MB453-kb2 cells for the most active formulation (R400), then from 2 ppm the transcriptional activities on both estrogen receptors were also inhibited on HepG2. Aromatase transcription and activity were disrupted from 10 ppm. Cytotoxic effects started at 10 ppm with Alamar Blue assay (the most sensitive), and DNA damages at 5 ppm. A real cell impact of glyphosate-based herbicides residues in food, feed or in the environment has thus to be considered, and their classifications as carcinogens/mutagens/reprotoxics is discussed.

But consider...we are all consuming the mega chemical company's genetically modified wheat, corn, rice, soy, sugar, etc. not to mention hormone/antibiotic laced milk, chicken, etc. And these chemicals are turning up in mother's breast milk and even in the blood of babies before they're born. Big chemical companies like Monsanto are poisoning our food supply. The evidence is in, but that hasn't put the brakes on these polluters. Where's the EPA when you need them? Oh, I forgot. They're in somebody's back yard examining a puddle so they can declare the property a wetland. Meanwhile they're increasing the level of poison Monsanto can include in their crops.

One Canadian farmer refused to be intimidated by the corporate giant who sued Percy Schmeiser when their genetically modified canola seed polluted his fields. A court ruled that all the profit from Schmeiser's crop was due to Monsanto who control the seeds and require re-purchase of the GM seeds every year. Two Canadian courts ruled that the farmers no longer owned their seeds; they belonged to Monsanto. But the Schmeisers fought...and fought...and fought. They argued in the federal court of Canada that no one has the right to patent a higher life form whether it's a bird or bee or seed.

This is a time-sensitive documentary available for free until November 10th. Watch it and understand what Monsanto is doing, not only to the livelihood of farmers, but to the quality of our food. I just bought a bottle of canola oil and now I'm wondering how contaminated it is with GM canola seed.

Monsanto and Genetically Modified Food

Monsanto is in bed with the Food and Drug Administration which is good for Monsanto but not so good for consumers who believe the FDA is really interested in protecting their health. President Obama's 2009 appointment of Michael Taylor, a former executive for Monsanto, illustrates just how corrupt the system is where the fox shuffles back and forth between his den and the henhouse.

As for the genetically modified foods being produced by the corporate giant, more and more studies are showing that they contribute to chronic illness, organ damage, and cancer. As they say, "You can't fool Mother Nature." But check it out for yourself.  3 Approved GMOs Connected to Organ Damage
There is also some speculation that genetically modified crops with built-in pesticides may be impacting the collapse of bee and butterfly colonies. That should certainly be studied because it harbors ill for the future of food production.

Milk from BGH-injected Cows: Does it Do a Body Good?

What is Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH)? Is it safe for human consumption?

The answer to the first question is that BGH or recombinant BGH (rBGH) is an artificial hormone injected into cows that causes them to produce 15-30% more milk. Monsanto spent a billion dollars to  develop it and it's been on the market, and in milk an milk products, since 1994. It's marketed to dairy farmers under the name POSILAC.

Is it safe? Well, that's a good question. As with so many things, it hasn't really been tested on humans. One of the troubling findings of injecting cows with BGH is that it causes them to produce milk with higher concentrations IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor). Evidence is growing that IGF-1 promotes tumor growth expecially in the breast and colon. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and most of Europe banned BGH because of health concerns and there is evidence that the hormone isn't all that great for cows either. It increases mastitis and foot problems requiring more antibiotics which also cross over into the milk: 

Despite warnings from scientists, such as Dr. Michael Hansen from the Consumers Union and Dr. Samuel Epstein from the Cancer Prevention Coalition, that milk from rBGH injected cows contains substantially higher amounts of a potent cancer tumor promoter called IGF-1, and despite evidence that rBGH milk contains higher levels of pus, bacteria, and antibiotics, the FDA gave the hormone its seal of approval, with no real pre-market safety testing required. A team of investigative reporters was set to do a piece on Monsanto and BGH on a Tampa, Florida FOX TV station in the mid 90s, but the piece was pulled after Monsanto threatened "dire consequences" if it aired. To the credit of the reporters who were threatened and bribed to alter the piece to be Monsanto friendly, they refused to lie and accept money to be silent. God bless them! I tracked down a transcript of the investigative report FOX squashed. It's on this website. Just click on the transcript button on the right. It's really interesting to see the changes FOX insisted on.  You can read it here and decide for yourselves whether you want to consume milk products laced with BGH. The reporters ended up suing. They won the intitial lawsuit but lost on appeal

When I think of artificial hormones, I immediately think of the pill. When it was initially placed on the market it was treated as a miracle for women. And, of course, it was touted as having no health problems. Now 50 years later, we know a lot more about the pill and its dangerous side affects: the link to breast cancer, strokes, blood clots, heart attacks, etc. Even after changes to the pill to make it less dangerous the contraindications fill a leaflet two feet long in small print. Can anyone be cavalier about introducing artificial hormones into milk, milk products, and baby formula?

All I can say is that I'm glad we get our milk from a Mennonite family whose cows are grass fed and who raise their own winter feed. And from now on, I'm buying organic milk products or doing without.
