One of the Barbarians on Display. Warning: Obscene language!

One of my readers commented on the previous post that he thought the barbarians were still a minority. I'm not sure about that. How many "progressives" are out there who believe killing babies is fine, even virtuous, and throwing obscenities at those with whom you disagree. I've had people on the blog say that I want to kill people. Where does that come from? Their own barbarian minds. They apparently wish to kill me and so they project their feelings onto me. Hey! All I want is their conversion and for us to meet merrily in heaven.

The Barbarian Invasion Has Engulfed Us!

The Roman Republic for many hundreds of years seemed invincible. They civilized the known world and built a thriving culture. 

What happened?

It's gone, folks. Do you even recognize the country these days? Look at history. Rome collapsed because of massive immorality. They lost the ability to protect themselves with their own legions, so they hired mercenaries with no fidelity to Rome. What happened next? The barbarian invasions. Well, we are in the midst of the barbarian invasions right now. We saw the barbarians marching with Black Lives Matter and Antifa.

The Sun Came Up This Morning....

So make an early new year's resolution to pray every day for the President (At my parish we ask for his conversion every Sunday at Mass in the prayers of the faithful.) and for our poor country. And then, raise your children to be martyrs. I think we've reached the tipping point. I doubt if a true conservative can ever win a national election again. Too many people have embraced the intrinsic evils of contraception, abortion, fornication, and sodomy. Too many care about nothing but free goodies from the nanny state.     Too many engage in class envy and really believe that just taking more from "the rich" will provide enough money to keep the welfare state going full steam. And too many politicians on both sides of the aisle are opportunists for sale to the highest bidder.

And how is the Republican establishment responding in the post election period? Telling us that what Republicans need to do to win elections is -- become more like Democrats. Ah, "what fools these mortals be." Ann Coulter (whom I can't stand, but she's pretty savvy politically) is pessimistic. She believes we've reached the tipping point.

I agree, and it reminds me of a conversation I had with the good priest who witnessed our marriage. (Rest in peace, Fr. Hugh.) He asked me what I thought it was like for the average man living during the collapse of the Roman empire. Life goes on.

....Of course, the barbarians weren't very friendly and some folks suffered from looting and burning. But, hey, we're already seeing that with flash mob attacks, riots after ball games (even when the team wins!), gangs of youth going crazy, the "knockout game," and looting during disasters. What used to be normal Christian moral values no longer exist in America among a large percentage of the population. No surprise! As Mother Teresa often asked, "If a mother can kill her own baby, what is left for us to do to one another?"

Batten the hatches and keep your rosary running through your fingers. The barbarians are running the country and they've already told us they're out for revenge. These are saint-making times if we remember that "All things work together for good to those who love the Lord and serve according to His purpose." Be cheerful and remember the singing Christians in the coliseum. All the wicked can do is take your life; only you can give up eternal happiness in heaven!

The Barbarians are Rioting: Royal Couple in U.K Attacked!

Prince Charles and Princess Camilla's car was attacked last night by rioting students protesting the Commons' vote to increase tuition.  I have a feeling scenes like this will become more and more common across the world as money problems grow. Our civility is skin deep. Get ready for the barbarian invasions. Most of us don't have hordes of police surrounding our cars, homes, etc. Pray the St. Michael prayer often!

Any excuse for a riot!

I remember a number of years ago when students at the University of Maryland celebrated a basketball championship by rioting in College Park. The New Year's festivities in French cities these days include torching cars. Despite 45,000 extra cops on the beat, hundreds went up in flames. Happy New Year!

During the 60s, rioting was almost a sport. The 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago was the occasion for so many and the police used so much tear gas, it was reported that Hubert Humphrey at the Hilton Hotel was disturbed in his shower.

Barbarians don't have much imagination. Angry about (fill in the blank)? Have a riot! Burn your own neighborhoods, in fact! Happy about your team's championship or celebrating the new year? Have a riot! Burn up your neighbor's car!

These are the barbarians within our gates.

Now my question is: How many of these barbarians attended a local or national tea party?

My guess: nada, zip, zero, zilch.

A conservative principle is to preserve the good. Conservative hope is in God and laws based on the fundamental rights of man made in God's image. The barbarians, on the other hand, believe in no rule but their own. If it feels good do it. If you can get away with it, try it. And blame, blame, blame - especially anyone in authority: your parents, the cops, etc.

What will the barbarians bring us in 2010? Probably more of the same. They have no imagination and even less character. You'll find them flaunting obscenity laws at gay pride parades, looting shops during natural disasters, vandalizing the property of others just for the fun of it, moaning and groaning at the Vagina Monologues, etc. You'll find many on college campuses where they fill their heads, not with knowledge and critical thinking skills, but with contempt for values like patriotism, courage, honesty, and service.

How do you fight a barbarian? I'm not sure. The old barbarians could be swayed by the goodness of a saint or pope. The neo-barbarians hold relion in contempt and are so cynical and nihilistic that they are almost unreachable. But two weapons are sure-fire: the Eucharist and the rosary. St. John Bosco had a dream that evil would be defeated through those means. Pray for the barbarians and raise your children to be gentlemen and gentle women who love God and serve their neighbors. And make 2010 a year of prayer. We need it!
