Sunday Meditation: Are Catholics Masochists?

Are Catholics masochists who turn every landscape into a dystopian city of suffering? What do you think?

In his homily this morning, Father mentioned reading an article by a psychologist who stated that Catholics worship pain and suffering. His evidence? Our churches have a bloodied crucified man at the center, many of our saints suffered gruesome martyrdoms, we offer a Mass with the unbloody sacrifice of the slain Lamb of God, etc. And, of course, there's the guilt factor. Father didn't mention that, but it's part of the picture painted by disbelieving psychologists. The Church lays a guilt trip on their followers who need to spend significant time (and money) de-compressing with a professional who will relieve them of their guilt. All those poor Catholics who wear a metaphorical hair shirt, if not a real one, are paralyzed by unending guilt that needs to be eliminated by drugs or talk therapy. Hmmm.

The Bizarro World of Modern Dystopia!

Last year about this time I did a post on living in a dystopian novel. Since then, bizarro world just keeps getting kinkier and more evil. It's hard to believe that so many people are on board with mutilating gender confused children, especially parents like those who take their little ones to drag queen story hours.

Our family spent almost 40 years living in Fairfax County. The Fairfax County public schools have been corrupt and evil for decades. We saw the evil first hand and it continues today on steroids! The education "professionals" continually lower the bar to corrupt ever-younger little ones very deliberately. They put a wedge between them and their parents. The school board seems to actually hate parents and deny their right to be the primary educators. How dare parents interfere with whatever the "professionals" want to do to their children. The "educators" ignore the concerns of parents and treat them like the enemy. Check out the latest training for teachers in the county!

Living in a Dystopian Novel Is No Fun, but Never Fear: Our God Reigns!

I used to read a lot of science fiction and enjoy science fiction films. Many of the stories were set in dystopian societies where the people were controlled by elitists keeping the masses hypnotized and quiet with bread and circuses and deadly "entertainment" by the enslaved. Think of the Hunger Games!

How Do We Survive Living in a Dystopian World Run by Caligula Clones?

Meanwhile we throw tanks and buckets of taxpayers' money at Ukraine!

The early martyrs no doubt had a sense of unreality as their world was turned upside down by tyranny and persecution. Vice was rampant in the first century pagan world with many of the same horrors Catholics face in our own dystopian age. Babies were exposed on the hillsides under the law of paterfamilias. Guards were placed to arrest Christians trying to rescue them. No defying the death-dealing desire of dads who wanted dead babies. [And it goes on! Think of the FBI raiding the home of pro-life activist Mark Houck on a spurious FACE charge! He is in court this morning as the jury continues to deliberate. Please pray!]

Facts and Questions about the COVID 19 Crisis: Will the Outcome be Worse than the Disease?

Is this you, looking at our dystopian society?
Do you feel like you're living in a dystopian novel? Do you wonder what the end game really is? Do the censorship and attacks on medical people who deviate from the official narrative concern you? What do you think the economic impact will be for the country as we go forward? Do all the unintended consequences of the lockdown worry you? Are you curious about why politicians are telling the medical profession how to treat a disease? Lots of questions! I'm sure you have some of your own.

A Little Sanity on Gender Disorder from the Nebraska Bishops

Two thumbs up for the Nebraska Bishops who recently came out with a statement on student participation in sports urging the Nebraska Schools Activities Association (NSAA) to support a policy that children participate in activities according to the sex listed on their birth certificates. Frankly, it's just common sense. Why should boys who generally have greater size and strength be allowed to participate in girls' sports. It's unfair to the girls who work hard to excel to have to compete against boys. How many girls could beat a 6'2" guy (like Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner) in a layup playing on the girls' basketball team? And what kind of injuries could a guy in a girl's uniform do to his opponent on the girl's wrestling team? Somebody needs a reality check!

Bill Whittle Calls for Common Sense Resistance to our Dystopian Culture

I read an interesting column today by Bill Whittle, a conservative political commentator whose insightful observations always set me thinking. He said that many popular films of the last few decades are set in post apocalyptic dystopias and named a long string including the recent Hunger Games. He could have included as well the fascination with evil threats hanging over the world like Tolkien's Ring Trilogy and The Hobbit series.

Whittle asks the question:
Why? Why especially is this so popular among young people? When I was a kid it was Apollo Missions and Star Trek: the future was bright, optimistic and unlimited. Why now is there nothing like that out there? Why is it all ruin and savagery?
This is his conclusion:
It provides us, especially teenagers, a chance to vicariously ask ourselves the question that those who go into combat on our behalf do not have to speculate on: namely, how would I do? Could I handle it? What if all I had was an axe? [Or as another era reacted to evil -- a pitchfork.]
Bill Whittle wants to give people, especially the young, a way to respond to our own dystopian culture and he's dropping what has become a pejorative term, "conservative," in favor of a term without the baggage, "common sense resistance." We certainly need a return to common sense. When Christians like Phil Robertson are lambasted for articulating nothing more than Biblical morality, it's time for common sense resistance. (Like the response that made A & E and Cracker Barrel back down from removing Phil from the show.) When idiot feminists label all normal sexual relationships between men and women rape, but same-sex depravity is "love," it's time for common sense. When coming out of the closet is an act of heroism, but wearing a pro-life T-shirt is harassment, it's time for common sense.

If you've never seen Bill Whittle, check out this video. We're living in the shadow of Mordor and it's high time the lovers of truth and common sense challenged the evil empire in our own back yard.
