What a Day without Me Would Look Like: a Reflection on "A Day Without a Woman"

Poop. A lot of poop. Stuck to small children. Hungry mouths. Laundry piling up. Crumbs. And, I mean crumbs everywhere (why did we get that shag carpet again??). Crying. If you thought the poop was bad imagine the crying. But, wait. No, I take it back. None of that. You know why? Because, I have a partner who helps me and if I need a day off, I'm going to get it and that partner is going to pick up the slack. In fact, he often changes those poopy diapers and vacuums up the crumbs covering every surface of our house (again why the shag?). So, then: What does a day without me look like? I mean my family would certainly miss me and I'm doubting any school work (or much laundry) would get done. But, I feel like it would be a day very much like any other day. If my partner in crime couldn't get off work then I suppose it would look like child neglect, so I think I won't be taking a day off because I kinda (really) like my kids AND my job. My point is, if someone takes off a day, they're leaving someone else to pick up the slack. Because, someone has to change the dirty diapers whether we're trying to make a point or not. Maybe you're sitting there saying "well, you don't have a 'real' job so they're not talking about you anyway." Maybe you're right.

Sometimes you just gotta laugh at the ridiculousness of the liberal mind....

....that gushes over the courage and inspiration of Bruce Jenner for letting out his inner woman....

but excoriates Rachel Dolezal for "pretending" to be black.

How come a man pretending to be a woman is brave and garners all kinds of positive, no, idolizing press, but a woman pretending to be black is described as "faking" and "lying?" Hey, isn't it all about feelings today? Bruce Jenner is a man who "feeeeeeels" like a woman. Chastity Bono is a woman who "feeeeeels" like a man. Why can't Rachel Dolezal be a white woman who "feeeeeels" black.

Why can't I be whatever I "feeeeel?" I think I'll let out my inner president. I "feeeeel" like the first woman president. Soooooo.....Get out of my house, Obama!

Now here's the reality of feelings. Live in the real world. "I'm a boy, she's a girl and this is the world....The feeling may be fleeting, here one second and then it's gone, gone, gone."

Reality is Painful, But Kinda Funny

Obama's supporters are mad, really mad. After all, they thought he was only going to sock it to the "rich" but the lightbulb went on with their latest paychecks.

The reality is there aren't enough rich folks. Even if you taxed them at 100% and took everything, you would hardly make a dent in the deficit. Most people (at least people paying income taxes) are in the middle class. When liberals look at the vast pool of potential payers, their eyes shine with dollar signs. As for the rich, they will be looking for ways to escape and politicians will continue to offer them plenty of loopholes because they contribute big bucks to politicians. The fiscal cliff and Hurricane Sandy bills were filled with pork for politician pals. 

Wake up, silly liberals. Politicians use class envy to fool you and then they punch you in the gut. And when hyper inflation hits, you may very well be living below the poverty level. So welcome to reality. This is just the beginning! Stock up on rice, beans, oatmeal before the real crunch. Oh...and buy seeds for the garden. You'll need them.

Was Joseph Smith Ahead of his Time?

We just left Salt Lake City and being at the center of Mormanism got me thinking about their early practice of polygamy which they abandoned in the late 1800s, I believe because of the desire for statehood. To their credit, the Morman Church has opposed same sex marriage, but the assault on the institution makes polygamy and polyamory and every other deviant lifestyle inevitable. Once the institution is defined as whatever I define as love, the possibilities are limitless. Hey, we've got dozens of "genders" now; why not dozens of "marriages" including same sex, bigamy, polygamy, incestuous, child and adult, you name it. After all, as Woody Allen says, the heart wants what the heart wants (and so do the genitals). One guy in Australia married his dog, why not a girl and her horse or an old goat and his ewe. What's to stop it?

I'll tell you...look in the mirror. Don't buy into the lie that same sex deviance is equivalent to the normal attraction between a man and woman, or the lie that mutilating the body and pumping it full of artificial hormones can change the genetic makeup of a woman into a man or vice versa. Live in the real world! Treat all people with respect, but not their sick ideas. Love always tells the truth with charity. As St. Paul says, "Love is patient, love is kind," but it is also "not happy with evil, but rejoices in the truth."

Speak the truth in love and prepare to be persecuted like the Master. To be like Him is an honor.

No Truer Words Were Ever Spoken

At the Easter vigil in Rome last night, the Holy Father spoke these words:

"Endless life would be no paradise, if anything a condemnation. The true cure for death must be different. It cannot lead simply to an indefinite prolongation of this current life. It would have to transform our lives from within. It would need to create a new life within us, truly fit for eternity."

In his book, The Great Divorce, C.S. Lewis shows the people in heaven experiencing a reality that is so real even the blades of grass hurt to walk on for those who still cling to earthly desires. In many ways this life is a dream world that only becomes real to the degree that we draw near the "Real Presence," Christ in the Eucharist.

Look at all the folks who invest everything in this world, in those things that rust and corrode: money, power, and human respect. Many don't seem to think of the next world at all. They are too focused on the next episode of House or Gray's Anatomy. They laugh at blasphemy and indulge in the seven deadly sins without a thought. And many, as Thoreau said, "lead quiet lives of desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them." Instead of singing and joyfully dancing with the Lord, they lull their consciences with pleasure and trivial pursuits.

And yet, the one thing that matters, the only thing that matters, is eternal salvation. That reality resonates in the souls of men and they are ever restless searching for fulfillment that can only come through the Lord.

To paraphrase St. Augustine: "O Lord, you made our hearts for Thee and ever restless will they be until they rest in Thee."

A friend gave me a bumper sticker that reads Heaven: Don't Miss it for the World. That's a message we would all do well to ponder during the Easter season beginning with the Divine Mercy Novena that started on Good Friday. It's not too late to join. Go here...

Live in the Real World

Fr. John Hardon urged retreatants on his last Marian Catechist Retreat, "If you make one resolution from this retreat, let it be to live in the world." He went on to say that millions of people are living in a dream world. With TV it was bad enough, but with all the social networking technologies, virtual reality shows, etc. the problem is getting worse and worse. Here's one graphic example...a couple who let their real child starve to death while they nurtured a virtual child at an internet cafe.

The Catholic faith promotes moderation in all things. consider that when you're sitting in front of the TV, at the computer on Facebook, or logging on to World of Warcraft.
