Rorate Caeli is reporting some alarming news about the likely next step at the Vatican to eliminate the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) once and for all. Monday Morning Musing: Good Questions from The Soul of the Apostolate

In my morning prayer time today I came across this paragraph from The Soul of the Apostolate which stopped me in my tracks:

Counting Calories: An Exercise in Self Awareness and Accountability

I've never paid much attention to my weight and have rarely dieted in my life. During Advent and Lent I've often given up sweets, alcohol, between meal snacks, and other calorie-laden goodies. I once gave up chocolate for an extended period for one of my children who was going through a hard time.

But I decided after my annual physical two weeks ago that I really need to drop some pounds because I'm exhausted all the time and the extra weight is no doubt a big reason. I decided I needed to get serious about it.

It's frustrating because I pretty much eat the way I always have: three meals a day and only a rare snack with a cup of decaf tea and honey in the evening. (Honey is a sleep aid and it really works for me.)  But being on prednisone for 18 months and the natural, metabolic slowdown from age seems to have reset my metabolism to that of a snail.

Pray for Priests, Especially the False Shepherds in Danger of Hell

Dymphna has a prayer for unfaithful priests on her blog that I prayed this morning. I invite you to join me. We need our priests desperately for the salvation of our souls. What a blessing when a bad priest repents and returns to the faithful service of his people. What a blessing if we love our priests so deeply and sincerely that we pray and fast and sacrifice for them, especially those most in need of the mercy of God.

Lord Jesus, High Priest and King of Kings, have mercy on us!

No matter how you view the article above, you must admit that we are living in the Chinese curse of "interesting times." They are also times that call for heroic efforts to save our beloved country and the world. This morning I was reading about "Nineveh 90," urging Catholics to do the "Nineveh Thing" which requires heroic efforts indeed.

UPDATE: Apparently World Net Daily Report is a satire site and this is a hoax. Next time I see a story like this I'll look for a disclaimer on the masthead. On the other hand, it wasn't that farfetched. Other Muslims have converted to Christianity. Here's a long list. It includes a journalist/politician who entered the Catholic Church in 2008 at the Vatican's Easter vigil presided over by Pope Benedict. So let's pray for Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the man who would be caliph. No one is unreachable by God's love, truth, and mercy.

Join the Rosary Novena to Defeat Radical Islam

A friend sent me the following email urging Catholics around the world to join a rosary novena to defeat radical Islam. It begins tomorrow and continues for 54 days until the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Please, please join. This is a good way for us to "ransom" those being persecuted by ISIS and other evil Islamic groups. Here's Allyson's email:

My good friend Anthony Gonzales of St. Joseph's Men Society in San Jose is urging a 4-day worldwide Rosary novena to defeat radical Islam starting tomorrow, Sept. 15, the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, and ending December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The first 27 days will be in petition for our Blessed Mother Mary's intercession with her Divine Son, Jesus, for Islam's defeat, and the second 27 days will be in thanksgiving for hearing our prayers and taking them before her Son's glorious throne.

Anthony has started a Facebook page to promote the novena. Go there for more information. And if you want to help even more, print up the flyer and pass it out at church and to your friends. There's a wealth of information here including prayers to be said during the novena, although if you can only say the rosary and make the intention please do that. In fact, whatever prayers you can say in joining will be appreciated. Jesus and His Blessed Mother can never be outdone in generosity and will reward whatever efforts their children make.

Remember, some devils can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. Make some extra sacrifices to add efficacy to your prayer. It let's Jesus and Mary know how serious you are and how much we all need their help!
