Doug Kmiec for Ambassador to the Vatican? NEVER!
Michael Winters writing at the America Magazine website suggests Doug Kmiec would be the "perfect" ambassador to the Vatican for the Obama administration - not a suprising idea coming from the liberal Jesuit-run weekly. But how will this play at the Vatican or in the homes of pro-life Catholics? As one of the latter my reaction as a mom and grandma who loves and defends the faith and the unborn is bring out the barf bags. Kmiec's dishonest shilling for the most radical pro-abortion, pro-infanticide politician in history disqualifies him outright.
What does the Vatican think? Catholic News Agency responded to the Winters article with a quote from an unidentified official at the Vatican office of the Secretary of State. "It will never happen." Let's hope not!
Kmiec has been described over and over as having "impeccable" pro-life credentials. Maybe he did once, but no more. Anyone who claims he does must argue that the same proportional reasons he used to justify support for Obama exist to support politicians who advocate killing jews or blacks or any other "unwanted" class of human beings. Would anyone agree with that? Of course not, but unborn babies can't vote and their cries can't even be heard so they are expendable.
One could make a legitimate moral case to disqualify both Obama and McCain, but to say one can choose the candidate who takes the most radical pro-death position is ridiculous. Archbishop Chaput has challenged Kmiec, after all his rhetoric, to deliver a pro-life Obama. Considering that the candidate promised his first act would be to sign FOCA, I'm not holding my breath for that unlikely outcome. That's the only way I can see for Douglas Kmiec's "impeccable" pro-life credentials to be restored.

ReplyDeleteAn example of your self deception about Obama?
First it was your deceptive Republican promises made for decades that have left the unborn dead and thousands of our troops wounded or dead and our prayers unanswered.
Second in the final presidential debate and speaking about abortion Obama said abortion is "always a tragic situation" and we should "try to prevent unintended pregnancies by providing appropriate education to our youth, communicating that sexuality is sacred ... and providing options for adoption and helping single mothers if they want to choose to keep the baby. ... Nobody is pro-abortion. ... We should try to reduce these circumstances."
Third, if you want to stop abortion stop voting for those whose "pro-life" stance is larger than Roe v. Wade. All that effort has not saved a single child.
Fourth, Overturning Roe v. Wade would only move the question to the states.
Fifth, As Romania and China both show that the State is powerless to control birth and it be best left up the the individual mother because:
Sixth, if the Bishops and other leaders would focus on supporting motherhood during and after the birth and work to garner a culture a desire for children. For example, employers would value having pregnant workers. They need to condemn employers, managers, spouses and parents who don't value motherhood.
