Fr.Tony has been ordered to remain silent and forbidden to minister as a priest because of his refusal to sign a document that violates his conscience: namely that women cannot be priests and that he accepts all Church stances on contraception, homosexuality, and refusal of the sacraments to people in second relationships. After a year during which he attempted to come to some accommodation with the Vatican without success, he has decided to take a public stance on the need for reform in the Church.Oh, my goodness, fidelity to Catholic doctrine "violates [Fr. Tony's] conscience!"
How exactly does he form his conscience one wonders? Well, actually, one doesn't wonder; it's obvious. Like a dissenter before him, Fr. James Kavanaugh, who wrote A Modern Priest Looks at His Outdated Church in 1967, Fr. Tony is another modernist who wants to recreate the Church in his own image and likeness. Talk about a man with a god-complex! "Fr. Jim" left the priesthood, married, couldn't keep those vows either, divorced, and wrote silly poetry about the journey, which never seemed to have an end. I attended a "retreat" he gave at my scandalous Catholic collge, Trinity in D.C., I believe the same year his book was released. I expect that "Fr. Tony" will follow the same path of dissent, disobedience, and death of the spirit. Pray for him and all those he will undoubtedly scandalize.
Fr. Tony begins his tour this week visiting 18 U.S. cities to promote dissent. Mostly he is meeting in Protestant churches and secular venues. But one stop is scheduled at a Catholic Church, St. Frances Cabrini in Minneapolis. This is the home of notorious dissenting pastor Fr. Michael Tegeder, another traitor to the faith who hates orthodoxy and has frequently publicly challenged his spiritual father, Archbishop John Nienstedt.
Pray for Archbishop Nienstedt who has been under assault for several years because of his support for authentic marriage. Satan pulls out all the stops to go after bishops who take seriously their responsibility to teach, govern, and sanctify. Pray also for Fr. Tegeder that the Lord will convert him or remove him. Archbishop Nienstedt reminded him of his promise of fidelity in 2011. Obviously, admonishing him had little effect. I think picketing the parish is in order, particularly if the speech by "Fr. Tony" proceeds as scheduled.
