The Winner in Yesterday's Elections? Karl Marx!

Candidates who illustrate the assassination culture of the Democrat party swept Virginia yesterday. New York and New Jersey did no better. As for California, Gavin Newsom got the green light to gerrymander the state before the midterms to secure and maintain Democrat seats at the national, state and local levels. 

What now? 

This morning I find myself thinking of St. Thomas More after he resigned his position of Chancellor and returned to Chelsea to try to live a quiet life. My state is now solid blue at least in Richmond. While most of the voting districts continue to vote red, it's northern Virginia, Norfolk, Richmond, and the college towns that carry the day and choose our government leaders. The rest of us "out in the sticks" just don't matter.

So where are we after yesterdays debacle? Spanberger, as radical a Democrat as you can find is our new governor. She supports boys in girls sports and bathrooms making our daughters and granddaughters less safe. There were over 12,000 thousand sexual assaults in 2016 in Virginia schools, and except for the COVID at-home year, attacks have been on the rise every year since. Sexual assaults are likely underreported as well. So...are Virginia schools safe? Ask the parents of assaulted and harassed (mostly) girls.

Will Spanberger, a champion of perversion, reduce those gruesome statistics? Not likely. 

Spanberger's radical Muslim running mate, Ghazala Hashmi, made abortion the centerpiece of her campaign. Death to the babies, the Democrat party's centerpiece. As for the Attorney General elect Jay Jones, his win is a true head-shaker. How could anyone vote for someone who only a few short years ago made vile comments fantasizing about killing a political adversary and his children, as well as police officers. What kind of justice can I, as a Trump supporter, expect in my state? How will pro-life rescuers, or even sidewalk counselors who break no laws, fare under this man? Woke lawfare won yesterday painting a target on the back of every conservative in the state. 

And that's what brought Thomas More to mind. The temptation will be to withdraw to Chelsea and try to live a quiet life avoiding anything that draws attention. In A Man for All Seasons, More points to himself and says to his wife Alice, "This is not the stuff of which martyrs are made." 

Fr. Hardon, S.J. often told parents to raise their children to be martyrs. Until recently, I thought that meant white martyrdom: persecution, discrimination, bigotry, disrespect, contempt. Recently, however, with the murder of Charlie Kirk, the many terrorist attacks on churches and schools, the chaos in so many cities and communities, murders on the subways; I think red martyrdom is a significant possibility. "Flee the cities" seems more and more advisable in our growing Marxist culture. 

How can we defend ourselves in an environment of chaos? We can't from a worldly standpoint. But the children of God have the answer. We turn to Jesus and Mary. We fight and we defend ourselves with the Eucharist, the rosary, and the sacrament of Confession. If we are always ready for death, we have nothing to fear even from those who not only fantasize about murder, but act on the violent rhetoric of our political leaders. "Who will rid me of these troublesome Catholics?" the enemy asks. No doubt there are many Democrat minions ready to rise to the call for violence as we've seen so often in recent days. 

Have no fear. Pray, hope, and don't worry. Wear Mary's miraculous medal as a reminder of her perpetual love and carry and use a blessed rosary often. Death is the door to our true home. Whether we enter quietly or are thrust through it by the enemy, we can be secure in the knowledge that we are coming home. Rejoice in the Lord always.
