On the FSSP Chaplaincy in Front Royal and the SSPX

St. Francis de Sales advises the faithful to always put the best construction on other people's actions and the most critical on your own. So I will do that with Bishop Burbidge's decision to invite the FSSP to start a chaplaincy here in Virginia. Since it is being formed "to serve primarily in Front Royal," it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that a primary purpose is to close (by attrition) the SSPX chapel currently in Linden "which remains in a state of irregular communion."

I can't read the bishop's mind but I will presume that he really does care about his diocesan flock and not just the money the diocese is losing which, in view of the on-going SSPX building fund donations, is approaching two million dollars.

If the Society and priests who minister to me are about to be declared schismatic and excommunicated, I want to know the rationale and justification for their consecrating bishops without a papal mandate. Canon law 1387 from the 1983 revised code of 1917 says this about those consecrations:

Can. 1387 Both the Bishop who, without a pontifical mandate, consecrates a person a Bishop, and the one who receives the consecration from him, incur a latae sententiae excommunication reserved to the Apostolic See. [For anyone who wants to read the law, the entire 1983 code is online here.]

Is the Honeymoon Over? Please, Pope Leo, say it ain't so!

One of Francis's worst moves was appointing a woman, a nun, to oversee all the religious congregations in the Church, both men and women. That was just one of his innovations, essentially changing canon law.

It is the responsibility of the clergy, not women religious or laity (neither men or women) to teach, GOVERN, and sanctify. Religious sisters and laity can cooperate in the work, but canon law prohibits their playing a juridical role. Check out this article:

Joseph Ratzinger in his book, Democracy in the Church: Possibilities and Limits, spoke of the "absolutely inadmissible de facto separation between the power of order and that of government" which relegates the sacraments to the "magical" and  ecclesiastical jurisdiction "to the profane."

Archbishop Vigano also weighed in with a reality check about Pope Leo's early days.

It is normal and humanly understandable that more than a decade of open persecution of Catholics by the one who presented himself as their Pope would lead many of us to desire a truce, hoping that Our Lord would give His Church - if not a new Pius X - at least another Benedict XVI. 

But this legitimate desire - certainly animated by good feelings and love for the Church - cannot transform itself into a virtual reality in which, even against all evidence, everything must necessarily be read as a confirmation of what we would like, and not of what is really happening. We cannot build for ourselves a "virtual church" with a "virtual papacy" that we love and serve in a consoling but unreal fiction. 

The confirmation of a notorious heretic to the Cathedra of Saint Gallen in Switzerland; the appointment of a nun as Secretary of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, in line with the appointment of a Prefectess by Bergoglio; the repeated references to the heretical documents of his predecessor and to Vatican II; the declarations on ecumenism and synodality, and finally the acceptance of climate fraud; all place Robert Francis Prevost in evident and disturbing continuity with his predecessor, and it will certainly not be the stole and mozzetta that will change reality.

Along with this, we have evidence of a new crackdown on the TLM (Traditional Latin Mass). In Charlotte, the bishop has banned the Mass of the Ages from all diocesan churches. He's relegated it to a Protestant church in Moorefields only two Sundays a month.

I couldn't help thinking of Antonio Gramsci as I listened to the interview. Gramsci developed a theory of Communism that replaced violent overthrow of western cultures with  infiltration and the slow march through the institutions. If you're interested read more about Gramsci here.

It looks like enthusiasm over Pope Leo was premature. Let us pray for him, but have no illusions.

Who Are the Legalists? What Comes First -- the Faith or the Law?

First things first! 

What is more important -- canon law or the salvation of souls? You don't have to wonder because the very last law in the Code of Canon Law, Canon 1752 in the chapter on procedures for transferring pastors, spells it out clearly. It calls for "having before one's eyes the salvation of souls, which is always the supreme law of the Church."

Here's the definition of "supreme" from Merriam Webster: "highest in rank or authority, highest in degree or quality, ultimate, final." In other words, the FIRST and most important principle of canon law is the salvation of souls. It is, in fact, the first reason and principle of the Church herself, to go forth and baptize all nations in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. And why baptize them? FOR THEIR SALVATION!

Canon Lawyer, Fr. Réginald-Marie Rivoire, Eviscerates Traditionis Custodes

Edward Pentin posted a tweet a few days ago about a new book criticizing Traditionis Custodes. Despite the fact that many canon lawyers are saying the same thing as Fr. Rivoire, most bishops have all done the proverbial bootlicking, bending the knee to Francis like he bent the knee to the leaders of the Sudan.

Much As I Respect Cardinal Burke, He Isn't Infallible!

I respect Cardinal Raymond Burke and have a number of his books in my library. His writings have helped me in my formation as a Catholic. My husband and I visited the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse on one of our cross country camping trips. What a delightful experience! And how grateful I am to Cardinal Burke for its creation. But building a beautiful shrine honoring Our Lady and writing some great books, doesn't make one infallible. Even Peter is infallible only when he speaks ex cathedra or speaks in union with the magisterium, not just the current magisterium either. He and they may not "make a mess" with the immutable Doctrine and Sacred Tradition of the Holy Roman Catholic Church passed on from the apostles. Novelties that conflict with Doctrine and Sacred Tradition are anathema!

We have been in serious trouble in the Church for decades. It seems like the 1960s turned the world and the Church upside down. But for those with a knowledge of World and Church history, it wasn't anything new. Since the devil seduced Eve in the garden, that wily serpent slithers over the world to see whom he can swallow hole. He's got his fangs into quite a few liberals. After Vatican II he grew fatter than ever! And what better souls to swallow whole than the clergy, especially the pope.

I am an orthodox Catholic who has spent my entire adult life fighting for babies waiting to be born: sidewalk counseling outside abortion facilities, offering a shelter home for moms in crisis, even going to jail several times for rescue attempts. As President of the Catholic Media Coalition, I speak for many likeminded Catholics who deplore the attacks on Holy Mother Church and those who defend her. Many of our members have watched and listened to the edifying sermons by Fr. James Altman and remarked on what a blessing he must be to his bishop for speaking the truth with clarity and charity about the moral obligation of Catholics, particularly our shepherds, to defend intrinsic moral issues.

Cardinal Wuerl whom we know covered up sex abuse continues to serve as a bishop and, in fact, remains a kingmaker on the Congregation for Bishops. The pope has praised his "nobility" and called him a "model bishop!"

Falsely accused traditional priest ousted by Cdl. Cupich appeals to canon law

Last March Fr. Frank Phillips CR, a traditional priest and pastor of St. John Cantius in Chicago, was informed by Cardinal Cupich that, despite being cleared of the charges against him for inappropriate relationships with adult men, he was permanently removed from ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago. This move was no great surprise. Cardinal Cupich's antagonism toward the Tridentine form of the Mass is well known and long-standing. That he would take action against this priest and this parish is consistent with his past behavior. He leaped to judgment when the accusations came out, even informing the secular media. Talk about ruining a good man's reputation!

the question of women priests. Yes, that'll do it. 

It's clear to anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear that things are not well with Holy Mother Church these days with Pope Francis at the helm. (See the articles linked below.) The barque of Peter can never sink, but she is certainly being drilled full of holes by the pope and his liberal cabal that act more like mafia dons than apostles.

Faithful Catholics need to pray, but not to be naive about what's happening. Has the Lord allowed this because lack of faith and our lukewarmness? There is a saying that you get the leaders you deserve. Read these articles and then make a Lenten resolution to grow in faith by studying Church dogma, in hope by reading the lives of the saints, and in charity by loving and sharing the truth with others. We are the light of the world. If the Vatican is turning off the lights, get out the candles!

Bishops of Malta  give adulterers permission to go to Communion if they feel "at peace with God."

The bishops have essentially annulled the doctrine on the indissolubility of marriage and they did it in the name of Amoris Laetitia. NOW will the pope respond to the dubia?

Canon lawyer Ed Peters calls it a "disaster." And, of course, it is.

"Let not your hearts be troubled." Trust in God and pray. I don't know if we are living in the time prophesied by St. Francis or not. The Prophecy of St. Francis about a Future Pope

Shortly before his death, St. Francis of Assisi called together the friars of his Order and detailed a prophecy of what was to come upon the Church in the latter days. That this prophecy references the last times is evident by the prediction of events that would not be fulfilled until after Vatican II, and by its placing these events in the time frame of the Gospel prophecy concerning the great tribulations just before Christ's Second Coming. (Matthew 24) St. Francis relates the following concerning the future Church under siege.

Earth to Pope Francis: "Woe to Those Who Call Good Evil and Evil Good."

Get this straight you stinky sheep: If you're married, you're
not really married;  but if you're living together you're married
and have all the graces of the sacrament you rejected. Got it?

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil, who change darkness into light, and light into darkness, who change bitter into sweet, and sweet into bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20)

Let's see if I've got this right. Pope Francis said the other day during a Q & A session that the "great part of our sacramental marriages are null.”  On the other hand, he declared himself "sure that cohabitating couples are in a true marriage having the grace of marriage.”

So...to sum up...most of those who marry in the Church aren't really married after all; but those who live together without benefit of marriage are the one's who are really married. Huh? All I can say, is that sure sounds like a modernist Jesuit -- one who is busy as a termite undermining the faith.

And calls the pope's comment about most sacramental marriages being null "very bad." He also says delaying the sacrament of Baptism is sometimes used by priests to assist the parents toward "improving their ecclesial situation" and that he's never known of a priest to deny the sacrament only because a mother was unwed. Our pope may talk about mercy but his unmerciful actions speak louder than his words.
