Can We Hope for Holy Bishops?

I'm a regular reader of Fr. Gordon MacRae's website, Beyond These Stone Walls. For those
unfamiliar with Fr. MacRae, he was caught up in the sex abuse frenzy, was falsely accused, refused to plea deal down to a two-year sentence by admitting guilt for what he did not do, and has spent decades falsely imprisoned. Today, Father posted the forward to a book, Hope Springs Eternal in the Priestly Breast, by Australian priest, Fr. James Valladeres. The book includes many details of Fr. MacRae's Gethsemane experience. The plan is to publish the book chapter by chapter as occasional posts on Father MacRae's website.

As you read the program for the sex summit at the end of the post, note the 3 hour lunch breaks. Must be hard to find food in Rome! And then they come back for a 45 minute presentation and...what next?...a 20 minute coffee break! Guess they need time to walk around after that big lunch so they don't fall asleep listening to the riveting talks by folks like Cardinal Marx, a one-man Church wrecking ball. Really, folks, all indications are that this is one more game that pretends to be addressing an issue while sweeping the real problem under the rug. And it begins with Cupich, a major organizer of this smoke-blowing summit.

"Credibly Accused" but Innocent Priests

People have a right to their good names. In fact, it's a moral imperative defended by Church teaching. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that "Respect for the reputation of persons forbids every attitude and word likely to cause them unjust injury." It goes on to describe the sins of rash judgment (leaping to conclusions), detraction (revealing sins of others to those who have no need to know), and calumny (lying). All of these are sins against justice and violating them demands the "duty of reparation." What does this consist of? According to CCC 2487, "This reparation, moral and sometimes material, must be evaluated in terms of the extent of the damage inflicted. It obliges in conscience."

Think of exactly how damaging a false accusation against a priest is! He is alter Christus! It is like crucifying Christ once again.

Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston to Release Names of All Priests That Have Been Credibly Accused of Abuse of Children of Which it is Aware Since 1950

WHEELING, W.VA.—Archbishop William E. Lori, Apostolic Administrator for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, announced today that the Diocese will release the names of all priests, deacons and religious credibly accused of child sexual abuse aware since 1950, the period in which it still has records. The release will include a list of the accused priests’ assignments during their tenure in the Diocese. None of the individuals who will be listed are currently in active ministry.
