The Love that Kills

A post at Abbey Roads sent me to the website of Joseph Sciambra, a same-sex attracted Catholic who left the gay lifestyle and returned to the faith after a road to Damascus experience. What he wrote describing his descent into the gay underworld really gripped me:
I walked slowly and steadily deeper and deeper into the black night of confusion and desperation. Stopped by God only at the very gates of hell.
Wow! Talk about recognizing that the path you are traveling leads to a precipice and a very evil end. What a grace!

Sadly, what enabled Sciambra's walk, he says, was the acceptance of his lifestyle by family and friends who, no doubt, thought they were being kind and "tolerant":

Sensitive Post on Same Sex Attraction and Friendship

Sometimes friends are siblings or cousins!
From a Catholic man who took a risk

I think a lot about this issue. Several friends are same-sex attracted and, while I don't believe they were "born that way," how people get mixed up sexually is somewhat of a mystery. And with all the environmental poisoning of the water with artificial hormones, well, I think it's likely that sexual identities will become increasingly confused. Hey, if male fish are producing eggs, what the heck is happening to people?

We're all broken in one way or another. We all have sinful inclinations, but each of us is called to control those inclinations using intellect and will and praying for God's grace. Who can live a holy life alone? No one! We all need help -- God's help certainly. But God generally uses our hands and our hearts to reach out in His name. Holy friendship is a vocation for all.

Who needs you today? Can you think of someone who needs a phone call or a note in the mail? Certainly we all need prayer. Ask the Lord who needs the gift of your friendship right now. You'll be blessed by sharing it.

Joseph Nicolosi: Helping to Free Homosexuals Who Want Out!

Okay, hear what the doc says. You need a highly motivated client who wants to be free from his homosexual desires. This isn't about imposing anything on anybody, but Dr. Nicolosi has been vilified, and I do mean vilified, by the homosexual community.

Now that you've watched this video, watch the next one where Nicolosi leaves "in a huff" as CNN puts it. But don't go away until you read about the CNN reporter's dishonesty that follows Nicolosi's exit.

"For the record," as CNN says, Love Won Out is a project of Exodus International. It has nothing to do with Nicolosi's therapy clinic. CNN gives the impression that Nicolosi is the author of the material being shown when, in fact, Love Won Out is a program developed by Focus on the Family. Is it just possible that Dr. Nicolosi doesn't agree with everything that others say about homosexuality? I'm not surprised he's  reluctant to talk to the media and CNN's dishonesty isn't likely to make him more eager in the future.

But, "for the record," as they say, I want to thank Dr. Nicolosi for helping young people who want out of the homosexual lifestyle. I happen to have a young friend who spent about ten years as an active homosexual. He went through all the bad stuff associated with the lifestyle - drug addiction, alcohol addiction, and depression - before he finally decided he wanted out.

Thank God for people like Dr. Nicolosi who don't tell folks like my young friend that the only answer is learning to accept that you're "gay." No, it isn't and there are plenty of folks out there who have made the change or choose to live chastely.

Same Sex Attraction: It's Bad for Your Mental Health

In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), but that hasn't changed the realilty that those suffering from same-sex attraction (SSA) show a significantly higher rate of mental health problems than their non-SSA peers. Studies over the last fifteen years show that SSA is bad for your mental health. Of course, gay activists say that's because gays are so persecuted, but in countries where homosexuality is well accepted, for example Holland and New Zealand, the rate of disorders is similar to other countries where there is still significant opposition.

It seems to me that there is a clear explanation: violating the natural law instilled in us by God puts man in conflict with himself. That kind of cognitive dissonance means a man either has to change his behavior or his beliefs. The man in a sinful situation, who knows it's wrong, will either give up his sin or alter his beliefs to justify his behavior. Have you ever heard someone in a sinful situation, e.g., adultery, say, "I just don't know what to believe any more?" There's a perfect example. If I want to commit this sin that feels so good and makes me "happy" (at least in the short term), then I will likely throw out my former belief in fidelity and the sacredness of my vows and make up any excuse to justify myself. Tolstoy illustrated the truth of this in Anna Karenina.

Sure makes sense, doesn't it? But if you know in your heart what you are doing is wrong (because God placed the truth there), can you really convince yourself that  wrong is right? Probably not. So what happens? The screws start coming loose -- not a good sign for the future of our culture of death is it?

But then again, God has a way of taking people in their darkest moments and shining a shaft of white light that cuts through the darkness of sin and invites conversion. So pray for sinners in the mire of cognitive dissonance that they will see the truth and turn back to our Creator who loves them enough to shed every drop of blood for them.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have Mercy on Us

The month of June is dedicated by Holy Mother Church to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

It has also been dedicated by a so-called "messiah," Barack Obama. He dedicated the month to --- ta da --- LGBT pride. (Read about it here.) Ah yes, we should all be proud of our sinful sexual behavior and proclaim it from the housetops or from Folsom Street in San Francisco.

Are we surprised? The man who skipped town rather than honor our dead soldiers by attending the national event at Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day, the same one who ignored the National Day of Prayer...is quick to honor sodomy with an entire month.

From the moment Obama took office he has dedicated himself to every perverted and evil initiative under the sun. There isn't an abortion method he doesn't embrace wholeheartedly or a perverted act of lust he couldn't champion. He is an admitted drug user as a young adult, and, if Larry Sinclair is to be believed, he was still using as a state senator in the late 90s.

The devil is shaking his fist at Jesus with this mockery, but what else is new? Jesus is big enough to handle it and offer his mercy to those who would repent and turn to Him. So offer your prayers to the Sacred Heart of Jesus this month for those enslaved by same-sex lust. For some, who will die this month and meet their Maker, it may be their last chance at mercy.

I'm going to say the Litany to the Sacred Heart often this month for homosexual activists and invite you to join me.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have mercy on us.
