Happy St. Nicholas Day!

Every time you see that jolly man in the red suit remember the real man behind the white beard, St. Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, who was persecuted and imprisoned under the Roman emperor Diocletian. The Merrifield nursery in northern Virginia used to have a wonderful Santa who explained to the older children that he was the "clown of Christmas." Then using a model of the nativity scene he explained to children the real meaning of Christmas. We took our children to see him more years ago than I care to think about. But he seemed timeless so maybe he's still there or has passed his gentle faith onto another Santa filling his shoes. I hope so.

Don't forget during this season to keep Christ in Christmas. You can do that in a number of ways. Light your advent wreath every evening and sing O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. Send cards with a religious theme. If you go caroling be sure to include songs like Away in the Manger and O Holy Night and not just politically correct "holiday" songs like Jingle Bells. If someone wishes you "Happy Holidays" respond with a smile and "a happy holy day to you too." St. Nicholas Day anticipates the coming of the Christ child. And how Christians look forward to that day. Let us rejoice and be glad and share our joy with all those around us. And don't be shy. How Obama Got Elected

Over a million and a half viewers have seen the video highlighting the Zogby poll questions that show how media bias influenced Obama voters. Their "knowledge" was obviously gleaned from the biased mainstream media which spent more time talking about Palin's wardrobe and her daughter being with child than discussing serious issues.

The left loves to attack the right as stupid Christians attached to their faith and their guns, unintelligent buffoons easily controlled by their leaders. But this video and the results of the Zogby poll show who really had no idea what they were doing when they pulled the lever in the voting booth. Visit How Obama Got Elected for more information and a head-shaking laugh. Seems like the left gets their opinions from NPR and Saturday Night Live. Not a single Obama supporter interviewed on video could correctly identify Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, or Harry Reid.

And what's the left's response? Attacking the messenger, of course. John Ziegler, the conservative talk show host, who commissioned the poll has been under relentless attack since the results were aired. No surprise there. But browsing his website makes for interesting and amusing reading. And don't miss the video; it's a hoot!

Pro-Life Warriors on the Move

A woman is looking for a "sign from God" on the way to an abortion mill about whether she should go through with it. At a stoplight she pulls up behind your car and what does she see? A Choose Life license tag on your car. Pulling over to the side of the road she bursts into tears and decides then and there not to go through with the abortion. Yes, Virginia, you can make that big a difference.

The project to get the Choose Life license plates continues across the country. In Virginia we need about 240 more paid applicants in order to qualify. The money raised from the plate will be used to encourage adoption. Join this important movement by downloading the form and submitting it with the $25 fee ($35 for a personalized plate). This will be the easiest pro-life activity you do all year with the potential for amazing, life-saving results.

Planned Parenthood Covers Up Statutory Rape

Why is the mainstream media ignoring Planned Parenthood's systematic cover-up of statutory rape? This is not an isolated case. Life Dynamics exposed hundreds of PP clinics telling patients they thought were underage how to secure abortions without getting their adult boyfriends, statutory rapists, in trouble. Where are the investigative journalists? Where are the outraged news anchors? Is all their compassion and concern reserved for snail darters and melting icebergs? Remember all the outrage over bishops covering up for sexual predators in the priesthood? Why don't the Boston Globe and the New York Times express the same level of concern over Planned Parenthood's coverup? (As if I didn't know the answer.) Abortion is the golden calf of the liberal left and Planned Parenthood serves at their altar of sacrifice like the priests of Baal. You can read about it in 1 Kings chapter 18. The refusal of the mainstream media to investigate PP is just one more example of their blatant hypocritical bias! Which is why so many people these days turn to alternative news sources for the truth.

Reading Isaiah for Advent

I'm reading the book of Isaiah for Advent. Check out chapters one and two which set up two key themes: the infidility of Israel and God's judgment and punishment to call her back. "Sons have I raised and reared, but they have disowned me!...you that rebel again and again? The whole head is sick, the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot to the head there is no sound spot....Your country is waste....Put away your misdeeds from before my eyes; cease doing evil; learn to do good....Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow;...If you are willing, and obey."

Certainly, the United States is as unfaithful as Zion of old. We spurn God, the ten commandments, and turn truth on its head calling good evil and evil good. We choose evil leaders and worship our material prosperity. How many obey only their own evil desires? Isaiah proclaims the Lord's message, "Their land is full of idols; they worship the works of their hands." How many of us worship at the mall on Sundays or in front of our TV shrines? Isn't it interesting that we talk about American "idols" and treat celebrities, including our president-elect, like little gods.

What can we expect from our Father who chastises his children, not to condemn them, but to bring them back to His loving arms? "I will turn my hand against you....Get behind the rocks, hide in the dust, From the terror of the Lord and the splendor of his majesty!...Human pride will be abased, the arrogance of men brought low, And the Lord alone will be exalted." We are created, as psalm 8 says, "little less than the angels." What have we done to the divine image in which we were created?

Despite these grim images, Isaiah is full of hope if we only choose to walk in the way of the Lord. "Come, let us climb the Lord's mountain, to the house of the God of Jacob, That he may instruct us in his ways and we may walk in his paths."

What a glorious opportunity the season of Advent is. Two great figures set before us by the Church are St. John the Baptist and Mary, the Mother of God. Take to heart John's message to "reform your lives and prepare the way of the Lord" and Mary's desire to be the obedient "handmaid." If we follow in their holy footsteps we truly will have a merry and a Mary Christmas. Offer a decade of your rosary today for those who are so caught up in the things of this world that they are clueless about what really matters, the things of our God.

Obama's Claim to Seek Common Ground on Abortion Hypocritical

Barack Obama claims to want to find "common ground" on abortion with pro-lifers, but his appointments so far reflect a rabid commitment to the murder of children. All his major appointments are not just pro-abortion, but abortion extremists. With Hillary Clinton at the State Department overseeing U.S. foreign aid including the United Nations Population Fund which supports China's gruesome one-child policy, Americans can expect a return to the Carter and Clinton years of requiring abortion for the third world in exchange for foreign aid. While doctors in poor countries lamented the lack of antibiotics, anti-diarrhea medicine, and other common drugs, they described shelves filled with chemical contraceptives, condoms, and abortifacients. Look for the United States once again to reflect the ugly elitism that pressures the poor to kill their children.

One more example of Obama's abortion extremism is apparent in the naming of Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards to his kitchen cabinet. Planned Parenthood continues to be in the spotlight over aiding and abetting statutory rape, Obama has promised his total commitment to the organization. There is no common ground between Planned Parenthood, the largest child-killing organization in the world, and the pro-life community. The talk about finding common ground is a sham. Meanwhile fake Catholic groups like Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good and Catholics United, both funded by pro-abortion billionaire George Soros, continue to throw dust in the eyes of Catholics to try to make abortion a non-issue in politics. Their agenda is more about promoting the liberal left than the common good. Why else would they take hundreds of thousands of dollars from an anti-Catholic pro-abort like Soros?

Chambliss Wins in Georgia; No Filibuster-Proof Senate for Obama

Senator Saxby Chambliss trounced Jim Martin in the Georgia runoff election yesterday denying Obama a filibuster-proof senate. Chambliss is a strong pro-lifer who has a 0% rating from NARAL and 100% from National Right to Life. His pro-life credentials are truly impeccable (unlike those of Doug Kmiec who betrayed the unborn by supporting radically pro-abort Obama).

You can send a message of congratulations to Senator Chambliss thanking him for his pro-life votes and urging him to be a voice for the voiceless. Pray today for all those defending the unborn in Washington during the upcoming legislative session. The barbaric agenda against life promised by the president-elect is a juggarnaut that will be hard to stop and those on the front lines in Washington have a tough row to hoe.
