Question for the Day Sparked by Thoughts of the Upcoming CCHD Collection

In view of the information below about the U.S. bishops' domestic "charity," the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD),  I have a question:

Who is more zealous about winning souls?
The prince of this world or the U.S. bishops?

IT'S BAAACK...ANNUAL COLLECTION FOR CCHD -NOVEMBER 17-18

In about ten days, most dioceses in the United States will take up the annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. For years, researchers have demonstrated that a large portion of the collection goes to Alinskyite community organizing groups that advance abortion, contraception, same-sex activity, and cultural Marxism. In 2010 the controversy alarmed at least ten bishops enough to withdraw from the collection. But since then it appears to be back to business as usual. That is a particularly sobering thought in view of this week's election considering that it was a CCHD grant that gave the most pro-abortion politiician in history his start. (Thank you, bishops.)

Officials at CCHD continue to claim that changes have been made in the collection to correct all the abuses, (No problemo, amigos.), but, in a recent report, American Life League demonstrated that dozens of groups that support intrinsic evils and violate the bishops' own guidelines continue to receive millions in funding. In fact the 2011-2012 grantee period shows that grants to evil organizations more than doubled in amount from the previous year. So much for correcting abuses. Here's the summary from the report:

Summary
Review and Renewal Audit: ALL’s study of 2011–2012 CCHD grants found that 46 of the 195 Catholic dioceses in the United States had grantees in violation of the CCHD’s Review and Renewal guidelines:
  • 27 of the 192 grantees currently funded by CCHD are directly involved in activities contrary to Church teaching. In addition, 45 are actively involved in coalitions promoting such activities.
  • The total number of grantees in violation of CCHD grant guidelines is 72, or 37 percent.
  • Two additional grantees are included in the report due to the actions of their leaders, bringing the total number of grantees profiled to 74.
  • The total amount granted to offending groups is $2,889,500, which is an increase of $1,026,500 from the amount granted to offending groups in 2010–2011.
    • Thus, 38 percent of the $7,658,500 granted by CCHD in 2011–2012 went to grantees in violation of CCHD guidelines.

One more question:

Whose kingdom is the Bishops' Conference working to advance?

John Boehner Needs a Brain Transplant

Boehner: 'Mr. President, This Is Your Moment. We’re Ready to Be Led'

Led where? To the doors of the abortion mills? To the same-sex wedding? Off the fiscal cliff? Straight to hell? Sheesh!

Boehner say he wants the president "to succeed." I sure don't. His success means more dead babies in America, more dead babies in the third world, more able bodied adults collecting welfare, more illegal aliens taking jobs from American workers, more Mexican drug lords killing Americans in the southwest and coyotes raping Mexican girls on the way across the border, more tax money for Planned Parenthood, more tax money for Obama's union thugs, more government takeovers of private business, more homosexual privilege, less freedom for people of faith.... Need I go on? The Obama agenda is the death of virtue and the exultation of vice. And it's weepy wimps like John Boehner and other establishment Republicans who have helped to enable this debacle. If it came down to a fight between Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House John Boehner, I'd have to put my money on Harry Reid. He fights dirty, but he fights. And you know where he stands. Reid promised he wouldn't work with Romney. Does anybody really think he's willing to work with the Republican establishment eunuchs?  Remember the message to Laodicea in the Book of Revelation:
I know your deeds; I know you are neither hot nor cold. How I wish you were one or the other -- hot or cold! But because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spew you out of my mouth!"   (Revelation 3:15-16)
Who's hot and whose lukewarm in this fight? Who in Congress has fought for the innocent babies in the womb like Congressman fought for and against slavery in the 19th century?

As for both of these men talking about a "mandate" from the people, that's nonsense? While the popular vote totals won't be final for some time, the difference will likely be between two and three percentage points. That's no mandate; it shows a deeply divided country that elects liberals for president, but continues to favor conservatives in the House of Representatives, the body closest to the people. Why did liberals win the national election? Blacks voted for the black, Latinos voted for the one most likely to keep the borders open to illegals, many evangelicals don't vote, and the Catholic divide between orthodox and cafeteria heretics makes our voice irrelevant. That final reality is the saddest of all. We, who are called to be salt and light to the earth had absolutely no influence on the election.

As for John Boehner, he's no fighter and he's out of his league with the Chicago-style politicians. The only message his wimpy conciliation sends to Dirty Harry and his thugs is that they can mop the floor with the House Republicans while blaming them for being bullies! It's their way.

Can America "Find Her Soul Again?"

An interesting article from The Remnant (Read the whole thing here):
So, did we lose? Did we even have a horse in this race? I don’t know...probably not. I think most of us were just making the best of a desperate situation by attempting to buy some time and praying America would wake up in the meantime. But if waking America from her slumber was the objective, then that mission was accomplished for at least half the country the moment Ohio was declared for Barack Obama. In other words, we're not alone!
For the next four years at least, millions of Americans will stand fast against the Godless policies of Washington, D.C.—policies which, again, let’s face it, on the issues that matter most to the soul of our country and the future of our children would have changed only minimally had the well-meaning Mormon been victorious and the so-called Christian right been once again cajoled into peaceful coexistence with the forces of hell itself.

So, to recap: We lost a race in which we really didn’t have a pony. And, as a result of that "defeat", millions of Americans had their blinders removed in an instant on November 6, 2012. They now know exactly where they stand. The slumbering Christian giant in America has finally roused himself from his utopian dreams.

Obama represents our chastisement, perhaps, but certainly not our conqueror. His victory may well lead to our redemption, in fact, both as Catholics and as Americans. Four more years of Obama may mean that America will have to suffer, but perhaps she will also begin to find her soul again… and her knees. Then Americans will have a chance to be truly free--something they haven't known for many, many decades.
Is Michael Matt on target or dreaming? Will America "begin to find her soul again" or are we so conscience dead we're beyond redemption? What do you think?

Two Immediate Economic Results of the Election

Wise Words from a Pro-Life Hero

I have admired Joe Scheidler ever since I first heard of him. Truly, this granddaddy of the pro-life movement is an imposing hero. I once heard him give a talk where he told us he believed the apostles on the road to Emmaus recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread because, as he raised his hands, they saw the wounds from the nails. Then he said Jesus will recognize us as His followers by our wounds. Do we bear the scars of Christ from the pro-life battle? If we do, we can be confident Christ, surrounded by the precious murdered innocents, will recognize and welcome us on Judgment Day.

Here's a bit of what Joe has to say about the election:
Reflecting on our political situation, I have to confess that every four years I find I have fallen into the trap of expecting our political leaders to make my job easier. It is a terrible deception. In my heart I want to live by my (and St. Benedict’s) motto: “Ora et Labora—Pray and Work.” But along comes an election campaign and I am lulled into thinking that if a pro-life candidate gets elected, I can breathe a little easier.
I say it is a deception, because our work as pro-life activists does not depend on who is in the White House, or the Congress or the State House, or even on the Supreme Court. We are commissioned by God to spread the Gospel, to restore respect for human life, to change the culture and build a Culture of Life.
If we do our job right, we won’t have nightmares about radically pro-abortion politicians running our country, because the electorate will choose people who cherish life and liberty. (Read the whole article here.)
Thanks for your wisdom, Joe, and for teaching us what fidelity and fortitude are all about!

The Sun Came Up This Morning....

...Romney was never our Savior.

So make an early new year's resolution to pray every day for the President (At my parish we ask for his conversion every Sunday at Mass in the prayers of the faithful.) and for our poor country. And then, raise your children to be martyrs. I think we've reached the tipping point. I doubt if a true conservative can ever win a national election again. Too many people have embraced the intrinsic evils of contraception, abortion, fornication, and sodomy. Too many care about nothing but free goodies from the nanny state.     Too many engage in class envy and really believe that just taking more from "the rich" will provide enough money to keep the welfare state going full steam. And too many politicians on both sides of the aisle are opportunists for sale to the highest bidder.

And how is the Republican establishment responding in the post election period? Telling us that what Republicans need to do to win elections is -- become more like Democrats. Ah, "what fools these mortals be." Ann Coulter (whom I can't stand, but she's pretty savvy politically) is pessimistic. She believes we've reached the tipping point.

I agree, and it reminds me of a conversation I had with the good priest who witnessed our marriage. (Rest in peace, Fr. Hugh.) He asked me what I thought it was like for the average man living during the collapse of the Roman empire. Life goes on.

....Of course, the barbarians weren't very friendly and some folks suffered from looting and burning. But, hey, we're already seeing that with flash mob attacks, riots after ball games (even when the team wins!), gangs of youth going crazy, the "knockout game," and looting during disasters. What used to be normal Christian moral values no longer exist in America among a large percentage of the population. No surprise! As Mother Teresa often asked, "If a mother can kill her own baby, what is left for us to do to one another?"

Batten the hatches and keep your rosary running through your fingers. The barbarians are running the country and they've already told us they're out for revenge. These are saint-making times if we remember that "All things work together for good to those who love the Lord and serve according to His purpose." Be cheerful and remember the singing Christians in the coliseum. All the wicked can do is take your life; only you can give up eternal happiness in heaven!

When Will Our Shepherds Enforce Canon 915...

...against pro-abortion "Catholic" politicians, refusing them sacrilegious reception of the Body and Blood of Christ? I fear Fr. Tom is right in his assessment of the situation of the Church in the United States. How many of our shepherds will do everything to escape persecution and keep government money rolling in?

Note John 3:19-21 and 12:37-43.

With a majority of our electorate and Catholics, by their lifestyles, votes and apathy, embracing a leader who has openly proclaimed the dominion of:

revenge over love,
resentment over resilience,
obfuscation over honesty,
parasitism over patriotism,
slander over respect,
power over human rights,
perversion over integrity, and
death over "inconvenient" life,
we are now going to be granted the "privilege" of  witnessing a tragic acceleration of the degradation of our morals and of the spirituality of the Catholic Church in America. There are going to be some interesting job opportunities at the USCCB (U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops) for theologians, who can develop a way to accommodate the HHS abortion mandate. After all, with a tsunami of progressive judges being appointed and firmly ensconced by the President and the Senate, any legislative efforts to protect conscience rights will be aborted by labeling them to be pathological obsessive-compulsive disorder. And it makes sense, since Church praxis in America over the past fifty years has been to ratify the legitimacy of the sin-seared consciences of those who affirm that the Eucharistic Christ Himself endorses their efforts to promote the brutal butchery of "inconvenient" pre-born children.
God save us!

In Christ,

Fr. Tom

Death Threats Against Romney Expolode on Twitter

Read these to get an idea of who Obama's supporters are. Wow! This is the civility he brought to government? I have never heard a conservative talk about assassinating liberals!

And then there are the Philly shenanigans where court-appointed GOP inspectors were kicked out of polling places.
