  1. Being a musician myself and yes, I confess, having played folk guitar in church during my younger and more stupid/naive days, I can attest to the fact that some music mediums are antithecal to Christianity. I cannot condone what these friars are doing; I'm sure they mean well, but rock, no matter the lyrics, does have detremental impact on spirituality.

  2. Janet, why does rock have a detrimental impact on spirituality?

Music is art and rock is a legitimate form that plays an important role in our culture. It can be educational for children and it can be therapeutic for adults. It can be an outlet for teens. So please tell me how it offends spirituality.

  3. As I said, I'm a musician, and in fact was one of the musicians for a Catholic Charismatic cult. We were actually taught how to use music to "stimulate praise". In fact, a lot of the beat and rhythm has the effect of elevating passions and emotions above intellect and will. Rock wasn't the first gendre of music to have this impact. Have you ever noticed on the faces of those dancing not only to rock but to 1920s flapper stuff the blank expressions? You say it's an outlet for teens. How so? What is being "outlet"? Is it not giving vent to passions that should be brought under control instead? You're right in that it has played "an important role in our culture". However, I don't think too many folks will argue that our culture has taken a precipitous nose-dive into the crapper, if not hell itself. It is the gendre of the music (lyrics playing a smaller role) that has led to the ridiculous nonsense of the "generation gap" and the attendant harms.

By the way - who are you? I'll post no additional response unless you divulge your identity. Thanks.
