Gamaliel's "Useful Theology"

I blogged yesterday about faith-based community organizers with a focus on Gamaliel Foundation's funding from George Soros. Today Stephanie Block had an article about Gamaliel posted at Spero Forum. Those who think they are supporting Christian principles when they contribute to a group like Gamaliel need to think again. These "progressive" organizations spin their agenda in "faith-based" language, but their principles are more in line with "liberation" theology than Christian theology.

Stephanie's article examines Gamaliel's immigration position which is basically to spin Biblical language about welcoming the stranger to justify the Democrats' positions of amnesty and open borders. They ignore the primary duty of government to promote the common good of its citizens. As Stephanie sums up, "Propaganda written to sound 'theological' isn’t real theology."

  1. Gamaliel's immigration work, as all of our work, begins and ends in the faith and values of our diverse membership. In the Christian tradition, we read:

“When a stranger resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the stranger. The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen
among you; you shall love the stranger as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.” - Leviticus 19:33-34

“And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? ... Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the
least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” - Matthew 25:38,40

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” - Hebrews 13:2

  2. I wonder how much you would "welcome the stranger" if he broke into your house, took the bread out of your children's mouths, stole the money you had saved for their education, etc.

Your selective reading of Scripture is part of Gamaliel's liberal agenda, but as Stephanie says in her article it completely overlooks justice and the rights of citizens.

Everyone I know is perfectly willing to "welcome the stranger" who comes here through a sensible and balanced legal immigration policy. Illegal immigration is another matter entirely.

The price of illegal immigration is in the billions per year and it's not only about robbing American taxpayers. It's about crime, failure to assimilate, undermining the quality of life, sex traficking, etc.

I refer readers to FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform.) They document the serious problems with the invasion of our country. It was partly responsible for 9/11 and continues to be a serious threat.

  3. I've run across some of the craziest uses of scripture to show validate their position.
One man quoted from Acts on communal living to prove that communism is just living out the Scriptures.
Another person, a Reiki Master until bishops said the enrergy was malevelant, and in "obedience to the bihsops" does not use Reiki, but quoted Jesus and his hands on healing to "prove" her new use, "Energy Therapy," is healing just like Jesus did, and commanded us to do.
I could cite more examples, but this is enough to show how Satan is deceiving people today.

  4. Anyone reading the postings with Gamaliel's responses can see how thin the Gamaliel responses are.
