Editor's comment: Spy Wednesday commemorates the day Judas betrayed Jesus to the pharisees for 30 pieces of silver. He already committed the sin before he planted that hypocritical kiss on Jesus' face. We have many Judases today among our shepherds, hirelings and even wolves in sheep's clothing. The history of the Cardinal McCarrick coverup doesn't shock anyone these days. We are too accustomed to the betrayal by powerful men in miters and tailored clerical suits and French cuffs. After all the empty talk about transparency, we continue to be deluged with lies and pompous pandering. The reaction of the bishops to the administration cutting off their gravy train is one more example of their dishonesty and self-serving hypocrisy. Fr. Gomulka has catalogued their abuse. Let us pray for their conversion and pray especially hard for the faithful bishops cancelled and/or disrespected by the pope and their woke brothers.

I occasionally receive emails from folks who want to leave the Church because they are so disgusted with the scandals, the corruption, and the example of the evil bishops, so numerous in our day!

I get it! I really do!

Good Advice for Those Thinking about the Priesthood...

Are seminaries safe? Better make sure says Fr. Mark Goring in the video below. Ask the bishop of the diocese or the superior of the order you are considering for assurance! He mentions Bishop Morlino's letter of August 18, 2018 in which he included these particular messages to seminarians, priests, and the lay faithful:

To our seminarians: If you are unchastely propositioned, abused, or threatened (no matter by whom), or if you directly witness unchaste behavior, report it to me and to the seminary rector. I will address it swiftly and vigorously. I will not stand for this in my diocese or anywhere I send men for formation. I trust that the seminaries I choose, very discriminately, to help form our men will not ignore this type of scandalous behavior, and I will continue to verify that expectation. 

To our priests: Most simply, live out the promises you made on your ordination day. You are called to serve Christ’s people, beginning with praying daily the Liturgy of the Hours.

Diocese of Wheeling's Fr. Pat Wash -- Shining the Light of Truth on a Dark Scandal!

CORRECTION: According to a friend in the Diocese of Wheeling who called me this morning, Bishop Schmitt did not return Fr. Wash to active ministry. He removed him from the active priesthood after the arrest. Whether he was suspended or just given a "get out of Dodge" order, I don't know. Obviously he wasn't laicized to prevent him ever returning to active ministry. Did Schmitt report him to higher ups including the Apostolic Nuncio? I don't know. Sending him for a counseling degree may have been an "act of charity" according to my friend, so Wash could make a living outside the priesthood. (Not so charitable for the young men he might be counseling.) Garbage collector or car mechanic would have been better with fewer temptations. How many garbage collectors and mechanics are alone with their "clients?"

The poor Bride of Christ continues to suffer at the hands of abusive men. But the spirit is moving to clean up the filth of corruption through the secular hands of the state. The civil government isn't necessarily a friend of the Church, but if you read the Old Testament, you realize that God often used strange instruments to chastise his people. Attorney Generals in many states are now putting the Church under a microscope and that is not necessarily a bad thing. Hey, even a doctor with mixed motives can save your life in an emergency.

Two Banned Bishops "Sent to Coventry!" Not Nearly Enough!

Archbishop William Lori, Administrator of the Wheeling-Charleston Diocese released a letter yesterday permanently banning two bishops from ministry there and in his home diocese of Baltimore. Bishop Michael Bransfield, former bishop of the West Virginia diocese and Bishop Gordon Bennett, S. J., former auxiliary bishop of Baltimore are accused of sexually harassing adults. Bransfield also stands accused of financial improprieties. (No surprise! He spent buckets of money in Wheeling on his own personal comforts with expensive renovations to his residence, a personal chef, wining and dining at fine restaurants, etc.)

Below is an article by Pieter Vree, Editor of New Oxford Review about homosexual-enabling Cardinal Donald Wuerl. Here is one more prelate who belongs in jail as an accomplice of child abuse. But what about his enabler? We were told last November when the bishops were stymied by Pope Francis in their efforts to deal seriously with the clerical sex abuse scandal that they had to wait for the summit in February. And what did that faux hot meal produce? A huge nothingburger! Once again the victims were paraded to tell their gruesome stories, the bishops beat their breasts, ringmaster Cardinal Cupich did a slick song and dance routine drawing attention from the homosexual elephant in the ring, and the sideshow ended. The audience in the pew failed to applaud. And so things continue. Please, folks, stop enabling these clowns with your money. BOYCOTT THE BLA! There are so many worthy Catholic apostolates that deserve your support. Give to the Little Sisters of the Poor or the FSSP seminary or a local crisis pregnancy center or a Catholic free clinic. And pray and fast this Lent for the purification of Holy Mother Church, the battered Bride of Christ.

Editor's comment: As the Rome meeting on the sex abuse crisis begins tomorrow, it's important to emphasize that the bishops must properly address the foundational root of the problem. They plan to focus solely on the abuse of minors. Why? Because ignoring the abuse of non-minors sweeps the homosexual nature of the problem under the rug. The language emphasized throughout the abuse crisis has been "pedophilia" when, in fact, most of the abuse involved older adolescents and legal adult seminarians. Catholics will know the meeting is a smokescreen if this continues, that the hierarchy are spinning a tale "told by an idiot full of sound and fury and signifying nothing." What a tragedy for the Church, especially the Church in the United States. No honesty, no transparency, no solution.

Sadly, many sayings from the past have disappeared from common usage. And yet so many express the truth in graphic ways. "One bad apple can spoil the whole barrel." sent a clear message that spending time with a "bad apple" was likely to result in rotten behavior rubbing off. Not that a "bad apple" can't change, but, until he does, the safest strategy to avoid rottenness is to keep your distance.

My mom also used to say, "Show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are." and "Birds of a feather flock together." I thought of that today when I read this post from OnePeterFive about the new honor for another gay-advancing cardinal, Kevin Farrell, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life in Rome.

Or is the Vigano affair an on-going soap opera and a cynical attempt to convince Catholic laity that the problem is being seriously addressed and solved.

Seth Aaron Fleury entered a guilty plea Thursday to a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, 13th Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins announced in a news release.

On Oct. 21, 2017, Fleury was set to meet up with his ex-girlfriend to “discuss their relationship,” Wilkins said. However, it resulted in a disagreement.

At about 9 a.m., law enforcement officials arrived at the Chancery office of the Archdiocese of Detroit on State Street, which is the largest of the seven dioceses, according to the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Is pedophilia really the problem, and if it is not, then, what is? And perhaps equally important, what is the answer to the real problem?
