During my prayer time this morning, I was thinking about St. Joseph and what an appropriate day this is to thank him. He prayed, worked, suffered, and protected his precious family entrusted to him by God. What a model for all fathers who pray and work, suffer and protect their families. My husband's confirmation name is Joseph. He has three great saints watching over him. St. Lawrence, who suffered an agonizing torture for the faith who considered the poor his family. When the tyrannical authorities demanded he bring the treasures of the church, he presented the poor, God's little ones.

Catholics Under Attack
A news story
that may not have caught your attention amid the government shutdown and the
lunatic climbing the national Christmas tree reveals another subtle attempt to
eliminate Catholicism and its followers from public life. The link here reveals that a judge from
Nebraska is being severely scrutinized by Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee
who question his membership in an (HOLD YOUR BREATH!!) all male organization
associated with the (LIONS AND TIGERS AND BEARS) Roman Catholic Church. This link is to a Democrat page that outlines exactly why he should be opposed. Clearly, it is because he is Catholic, though they don't mention religion specifically.

Yikes! Is Crux Partnering with the Knights of Columbus Good News or Bad News?
![]() |
| Are these Knights running toward the battle or just running? |
The Catholic Pulse [the K of C's news site] article announcing the partnership said that “[t]he Knights will respect the editorial freedom of Crux, trusting it to present news and commentary in a way that serves the good of the Church.” Allen said he is hopeful the switch from a secular publisher to a Catholic organization will not threaten the site’s editorial independence. “That is very much part of our deal,” he said. “As with anything else, we’re going to have to see how it works out.”

We Need Real Knights Ready to Defend the Faith!
What do you think of when you think of a "knight?" I imagine a strong man, a man of integrity and self-control, a man who loves God, his country, and his family. I think of a man ready to stand in the gap upholding truth, defending what's good and battling against evil. The Knights of Columbus was founded for exactly that -- to defend the faith and support widows and orphans. Yes, a primary focus was defending the weak and vulnerable against unjust attack and exploitation. So when Norfolk Council 3845 invited extreme pro-abort Terry McAuliffe to be the Grand Marshal of their St. Patrick's Day Parade they betrayed everything the Knights stand for. If nothing is done about this travesty, if the council proceeds without consequences, the Knights might as well fold up their tents and go home. They have abandoned the field of battle and left it to the enemy of life. Any man who turns his back on the most vulnerable member of our human family is a coward.
But what can be done? At the bare minimum, join the effort to expel the council from the K of C. Sign the petition posted by Knight Pete Barker of Virginia Beach Council 10601. And then share it far and wide urging all your family and friends to join the effort calling the K of C back to their roots. As of this afternoon only 52 people have signed the petition. Many more would if they knew about it. Won't you pass the word?
When men act like men and take the field of battle under the banner of Christ, great things can happen. You don't need to be a knight to sign the petition. Won't you help? Call on the Virginia State Knights of Columbus to disband renegade council 3845 and restore the honor of the Knights as a courageous pro-life organization.

A Bit of Good News: K of C Drops Out of Boston Parade
VICTORY: Knights of Columbus drop out of “pro-gay” Boston St. Patrick’s Parade
after massive outrage from traditional Catholics
The Knights of Columbus hadn't marched in the Boston St. Patrick's Day parade for at least twenty years. But when real Catholics began fleeing the event (because of gay participation) including the group that featured the trademark St. Patrick float, voila, the K of C decided to enter with their own float. Now what was that all about? Easy....call it liberal politics at work. We all know Catholics who happily support moral evils condemned by the Church including contraception, abortion, and sodomy. Many of them sit in high office and have friends in the K of C who will happily enable their evil. And there are plenty of Knights in that group.
Remember, it was Knights in the Massachusetts legislature who gave the votes to advance gay marriage in the state.
Well, the good guys have won for once. The pressure on the Massachusetts K of C has forced their not-so-gracious exit from the parade while they engage in a tirade against those who dared to criticize them. Reportedly many who contacted the Knights got the jackboot treatment -- not surprising from a bunch of little boys masquerading as men. Play the violin for these crybabies and praise God that at least one scandal was averted.
Too bad the Norfolk, VA council didn't follow suit and disinvite Terry McAuliffe from their parade today. But I'm happy to say the weather report for the event wasn't good at all -- cloudy and rainy. Here's a photo of what it looked like at the Norfolk airport around noon. Hopefully it was pouring when the parade started at 10:00. Tears from heaven?

How Soon They Forget: Knights of Columbus Violate 2007 Resolutions
It was August 2007 and knights from all over the country were attending the 125th Knights of Columbus National Convention at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN. Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State, was there to offer the opening Mass and homily and receive the Gaudium et Spes award.
Toward the end of the meeting at its final session, the knights voted in favor of a pro-life resolution stating:

"we reaffirm our long-standing policy of not inviting to any Knights of Columbus event, persons, especially public officials or candidates for public office, who do not support the legal protection of unborn children, or who advocate for the legalization of assisted suicide or euthanasia."At the same session, they voted:

Message to the Knights of Columbus
Man up or fold up!When I think of the crusader knights who won the Holy Land back from the Turks and defeated the Ottoman Empire at the Battle of Lepanto, I'm embarrassed to think of the wimps of the Knights of Columbus who dare to call themselves by the same name. My husband is a knight, a past Grand Knight, in fact. He stays in the group to fight for its renewal. Last year our little council introduced a resolution asking National to act on their own procedures which require members to be "practical (i.e. practicing) Catholics." It was voted down at the state level. So is it any big surprise that the Virginia State Council won't do a thing about Norfolk Council 3548 honoring Terry McAuliffe as Grand Marshall of their St. Patrick's Day Parade? Yup, Terry McAuliffe, a man who favors cutting little babies to pieces and opposes even minimal standards for abortion butcher shops that kill and maim women.
Whatever happened to men defending the weak? There don't seem to be very many in the Virginia K of C.
Maybe it's time not just to vote on resolutions, but for entire councils to withdraw and begin new men's groups in parishes that are truly Catholic, Knights of the Immaculata would be a good name, don't you think? The Knights do good work, but that work enables the evil that they also do. How much evil can one mix with good before it poisons everything?
So go on, all you Knights who justify honoring pro-abortion politicians....play dress up in your plumed hats, tuxedos, and swords. (Don't cut yourselves!) Hobnob with the rich and powerful. But remember, there's an accounting....It's called Judgment Day. And the judge will be saying, "Whatever you did to the least of my little ones, you did to me."
Take a good look at this picture of an aborted baby. Looks like the little one was crucified doesn't it? And Council 3548, you help enable the murder by honoring the state murderer in chief. Under law, it isn't just the killer who's guilty of the murder, but those who participate and assist. Terry McAuliffe is as guilty of the killing as if he wielded the curette himself. And when you honor him, you honor every butcher in history.
Have fun at your Emerald Ball dancing the Irish jig and drinking green beer. Wouldn't St. Patrick be proud?

Obedience: Sometimes it's Wrong
A fella commenting on my posts criticizing the Knights of Columbus and calling for reform got highly incensed and shook the dust off his feet when I had the temerity to suggest that Catholics are not obliged to obey their bishops in all things. Now, don't get me wrong, I think obedience is an important virtue. In fact, obedience is closely connected to the virtue of humility. And, as Fr. John Hardon often said, "Only humble people get into heaven." So I take the virtue of obedience seriously. But there is virtuous obedience, blind obedience, and evil obedience. The wise and the prudent need to make distinctions between them.
Clearly, obedience is evil when the order being obeyed involves committing sin. Soldiers who deliberately murder noncombatant civilians because they were "following orders" are guilty of wartime atrocities. No one may obey an evil order. That's the basis for war crime tribunals. Additionally, no one has an obligation to obey evil laws so those who operated the Underground Railroad or ignored the Jim Crow laws or the Nuremburg laws were morally justified. The Chinese who defy the one-child policy are completely right to disobey their evil government. As St. Thomas Aquinas says, an evil law that defies the law of God is no law at all.
Even lawful authority has limits. Children owe obedience to parents and those who serve in place of parents, like teachers, but a parent may not order a child to marry a particular person or follow a particular path in life, and teachers have no right to assign immoral books or films as required material. St. Clare certainly was not guilty of disobedience when she defied her parents and ran away to become a nun.
Bishops have authority and the duty to teach, govern, and sanctify their flocks in the faith. Their authority is intrinsically linked to the authority of the Pope and the Church. When they teach according to the mind of the Church, the flock is bound to obey. But when a bishop steps outside the deposit of the faith to make up his own rules, the laity, and even his priests, do not owe him obedience. Certainly, the priests under Arian bishops had not only the right, but the duty to disobey. Every heresy in the Church that I can think of originated with a cleric. Nestorius was a bishop. Martin Luther was a priest/monk. Arius was a priest. Not much is known about Pelagius, but he is commonly referred to as a British monk. Should the flock have followed these men because they wore Roman collars?
Of course not! And to suggest that blindly obeying clerics is virtuous is clericalism, the attitude that a Roman collar sets a man above all others and he should be obeyed in all matters both religious and secular. What nonsense when bishops throughout history have been responsible for so much evil. It was a bishop who conspired with the English to burn Joan of Arc at the stake. It was the entire bench of bishops in England minus one, John Fisher, who went along with Henry VIII's evil plan to set aside Catherine, marry Ann Boleyn, and declare himself head of the Church. Bishops used clericalism when they browbeat parents of sexually abused children into silence assuring them the matter would be taken care of and then moving the abusers again and again. They accused parents of wanting to destroy the Church. Sadly, the parents' silence enabled the evil to continue for decades. Failing to sound the alarm multiplied the problem exponentially.
To suggest that bishops should be obeyed in all things is just plain absurd.
As for the Knights of Columbus, they have a constitution and by-laws that require all members to be "practical," i.e., practicing Catholics. Those members who commit public scandal by supporting positions that openly defy Church teaching are not eligible to be Knights according to the Knights' own documents. To allow pro-abortion politicians to maintain membership and use it as they politic for reelection is scandalous and scandal is a serious sin. No bishop or pastor has the authority to order a council to admit or maintain the membership of such a knight. Supreme has no right to order councils to retain such members.
The Knights remove those who do not pay their dues. It is ridiculous to assert that they cannot remove a man who publicly advocates the murder of unborn children. I don't, however, suggest that men should quit the Knights in protest. I think they should stay and try to get Supreme and the state councils to change. If they won't, local councils who love the least of God's little ones waiting to be born would do well to vote to leave the Knights as a group and reestablish themselves as independent men's service groups within their parishes. In most cases, the groups would hardly know the difference except for having a lot less paperwork and keeping all their dues money locally.
And think of the impact of many councils leaving with the promise to return when the Knights begin to honor their own constitution and by-laws. The Knights do great good, but they poison the well when they violate their own rules and allow those who publicly defy the Church to remain Knights in good standing. Abortion laws and same sex marriage laws have, in some cases, only passed because of pro-abortion, pro-homosexual knights. That reality is so shameful as to cast a pall on the good the knights do. It must end!

Mike Voris Leaves the Knights of Columbus
I completely agree with Michael Voris' assessment of the Knights of Columbus. The organization has become "lukewarm" and deserves to be vomited out of the mouth of Christ. But consider the possibilities. The only thing necessary to turn the K of C back to the faith is for enough local councils to withdraw.
Several years ago, our parish St. Vincent de Paul Society decided to become an independent parish charity because of policies in the diocesan program which included the right to come in and take the assets of parish chapters. Our group, one of the largest private charities in Shenandoah County supporting local needs, withdrew.
Suppose that K of C chapters began withdrawing and forming independent men's groups in their parishes informing the national office they'll be glad to return when the K of C returns to the faith. What an impact they could have! How many councils would have to vote to withdraw before National saw the light? I suspect it wouldn't require too many to put the fear of the Lord into K of C state and national leaders. I'd love to see Virginia take the lead.
I encouraged my husband to join the K of C when he retired and supported him when he became Grand Knight. Now I'm encouraging him to quit. You can't keep your hands clean when you are in a group that adds sewage to its beer and dips its pretzels in poison. The K of C has the same problem as Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities, CCHD, and other national Catholic charities. It's chosen money over God.
For years I've thought the insurance business was the REAL reason for the K of C. Mike Voris' message just confirms it for me. If they are helping pro-abortion politicians stay in office, distributing ultrasound machines is a guilt offering. Think of the impact if the Knights had officially pitched out Ted Kennedy. Not only would it have revealed the hypocrisy of Kennedy's posturing as a Catholic, it might have resulted in his public repentance for his significant role in murdering millions of babies. What would his public convrsion have done to save others teetering at the edge of the abyss? We'll never know. What a lost opportunity!
No more lost opportunities! If you're a Knight, why not start stirring a revolt in your local council by urging members to vote to withdraw from the K of C and form an independent men's group until the Knights change their ways and decide to serve under the standard of Christ. You cannot serve both God and money. Right now the Knights seem to be more interested in the almighty dollar (or millions of same) than in Almighty God. It's high time that changed. Pray for the intercession of Venerable Fr. Michael McGivney, K of C founder, the energetic young priest who died at the young age of 38. I have no doubt converting the Knights back into zealous defenders of the faith would meet with his approval. Fr. McGivney, pray that the K of C will once again become true Knights under the standard of Christ.
See past posts on the K of C here, here, and here.

Shame on the Knights of Columbus!
The irony of the K of C's betrayal is that I know a man who was thrown out of the group because he was confronting his pastor over some scandalous goings on in the parish. Robert Kumbel is a home-schooling dad, a pro-life activist, and a faithful Catholic. That didn't protect him from becoming "The Black Knight" in the eyes of his local council. Just think -- If he was a pro-abortion politician, the local council would have been forbidden to expell him. Interesting times we live in, eh? I encouraged my husband to become a knight when he retired. Now I think I'll encourage him to resign in protest. What's the point after all. These paragons of Catholicity won't every take a position that would embarrass a pro-abortion Congressman. They have among their ranks some of the most viciously pro-abortion politicians at both the state and local levels. Most of the Catholics in the Massachusetts legislature supported the same sex marriage law.
I think the knights need to change their name to the Maids of Columbus. They lack the anatomy that would designate them as "knights."

Clean up the Knights of Columbus before it self-destructs

As I've said before, just because the mouse is in the cookie jar doesn't make him a cookie.
A number of members of the Catholic men's organization, the Knights of Columbus, started a website, Knights for Obama after Supreme Knight Carl Anderson came out with an open letter taking fellow knight Joe Biden to task for his ignorant pontificating about abortion. Biden deserved the upbraiding and, in fact, should be ousted from the Knights which require their members to be upstanding Catholics. A Catholic who is publicly pro-abortion is a scandal who should be denied Communion under Canon Law 915 and stripped of any Catholic honors. Such action is for the good of Senator Biden's soul. Life is not a video game where those who score the most worldly points get into heaven. No, it is a struggle between good and evil with our salvation dependent on whether we serve God or Satan, who is a liar and murderer from the beginning. The abortion juggarnaut is built of lies and death.
Every man who joins Knights for Obama should be expelled from the Knights of Columbus. Just as Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz expelled members of Call to Action because their membership in the dissent group is inconsistent with Catholicism, so is the endorsement and support of a man who advocates, not only abortion, but infanticide and has made its support a litmus test for his administration. You cannot be Catholic and pro-abortion.
The Knights of Columbus have been pussyfooting around this scandalous situation for years. It's high time they took action to expel those who give public witness that it is okay to be pro-abortion and Catholic. They should start with all the pro-abortion politicians who use their membership in the Knights for political gain and move from there to those who have signed up for Knights for Obama. Catholics can't be Masons. Neither can they support child-killing. Their public scandal is mortally sinful and endangers their souls. It's high time someone had the courage to call their behavior exactly what it is.

Expel Pro-abortion Politicians from the Knights of Columbus

Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, released an open letter to Senator Joe Biden on Friday, September 19th challenging his scandalous pronouncements on NBC's Meet the Press. The letter is a powerful defense of Church teaching and calls Biden to account urging him "to work to secure the rights of the unborn to share in the fruits of our hard-won liberty."
This is a great opportunity to write to Mr. Anderson praising him for taking action and asking him to follow it up by formally removing the many, many pro-abortion Catholic politicians (at least 72 in Congress alone -- how many at the state level is anybody's guess) who are members of the Knights of Columbus. They could begin with Ted Kennedy. The Knights' own policies call for removing members who are a scandal to the order. Unfortunately, whenever a local council attempts to take action, they are overruled, declared out of order, or ruled unconsitutional. Unfortunately, Carl Anderson who has been head of the Knights since 2000 has done nothing about the scandal of pro-abortion politicians in their ranks. This is a case where one can't help thinking that human respect takes precedence over respect for God.
Concerned Roman Catholics of America have been following the situation with the Knights for years. In a press release earlier this summer they exposed the horrendous scandal in Massachusetts where 16 Knight/politicians helped to pass legislation allowing gay marriage in the state.
I applaud Carl Anderson's open letter, but now I remind him of what every mom on earth tells her children: "Actions Speak Louder than Words!" Expel pro-abortion politicians from the Knights of Columbus NOW! Including Joe Biden, who, according to CRCOA, was a Knight as of 2006.
