Modern Day David Subdues Goliath Gunman
We all need heroes and what a blessing it is to be able to report on one. David Benke, a Colorado middle school math teacher risked his life to tackle an assailant who opened fire in the school parking lot as kids left for the day. Three students were wounded, none fatally, before the gunman was wrestled to the ground and subdued by Benke and another teacher. But it was this modern day unarmed David who had the courage to attack the Goliath with a gun. Pray in thanksgiving for the courage of this teacher. The assault happened only three miles from Columbine High School. Read more here... and here....

Dear Mary Ann,
ReplyDeleteThe story of the teacher who tackled the shooter in Colorado really hits home with Frank and me. David Benke is our son-in-law and we are not surprised he would do such a noble act. He is a wonderful man who, as a convert, has a deep love for the Catholic Church.

What a small world! When I read the story, I wondered if the teacher was a Catholic and am not surprised. But to find out he's the son-in-law of someone I know and an ally in the culture war is mind-boggling! It also makes me praise God for the internet that has brought so many Catholic activists around the country together.
ReplyDeleteI hope, Betty, that we have a chance to meet face to face some day and give each other a big hug as sisters in the faith!
Your son-in-law demonstrates what it means to be a Christian, willing to lay down his life for others. God bless him.
My 13-year old daughter summed it up so well the night of the shooting. She said, "Mom, I just finished up my prayers and I prayed for the victims and their families, and, of course daddy. I also prayed for the gunman and his family and that they will not turn away from him when he needs them most."

What a wise young lady. Sounds like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Congratulations to your family for the obvious witness of Christian values to a world that sorely needs it!
