FGF Books, 5/2/2025 — A meme is making the rounds: a bull in a china shop has destroyed every plate, saucer, and cup. We are asked, “Is this what you voted for?” As a matter of fact, it is.

It is also what I voted for in 2016. The problem in 2016 was that politicized Democrat Deep Staters in the FBI, DOJ, military, CIA, federal judiciary, and Congress were in that china shop and illegally prevented the bull from doing his work. And they were cheered on by a thoroughly corrupted gutter press.

Face the Cultural Snipers and FIGHT!

The snipers attack from all directions these days as Austin Ruse writes this morning at Crisis Magazine. Rather than hunker down in a bunker of fear, we Catholics were made for exactly this time. How should we react under the barrage of evil enemy fire?

"The proper response to life under snipers is joy and a fighting spirit, which you will find everywhere."

Spadaro retweeted a silly Twitter post calling for EWTN to be put under interdict unless they fire Arroyo for daring to criticize some of the appalling swill being brewed at the Vatican. Really...the vindictiveness of these clerics staggers the imagination. They strain at the gnat of orthodoxy and swallow whole the camel of heresy. I posted on Spadaro awhile ago pointing out how disingenuous he is. That seems to be a common quality of FOF (Friends of Francis).

Cardinal Joseph Bernardin made a career out of speaking with an orthodox tongue while he undermined serious moral issues. His "seamless garment" provided cover to many pro-abortion Democrats like Ted Kennedy who could posture on the moral high ground as a serious Catholic while he voted to dismember babies in the womb. I mean he opposed executing serial killers, for heaven't sake! How much more "Catholic" can you be?

I wrote the other day about the 14 Catholic senators who refused to support the ban on aborting babies after 20 weeks who feel the pain of being torn limb from limb. Many of the abortion-enabling politicians use the "seamless garment" to justify themselves. They continually tell us how much they just luuuuuuv the weak and vulnerable...with one exclusion (well, millions of exclusions actually) -- babies waiting to be born. Hey, the babies can't vote and won't be fodder for elections for years, so who needs 'em? After all, the feminists and pro-abort adults can vote and pandering to them is a career enhancer for Democrats.

Who are the real hatemongers? Fr. James Martin and his cheering section. Think about it. Whenever anyone criticizes Martin's enthusiasm for mortal sins of deviant sex, he responds with a hate-filled, name-calling screed. And his echo chamber on the Catholic left (and even a few on the right) join the chorus. Here's a bit of Ruse's article worth highlighting:

I've had my own back and forth with Fr. Martin. Check it out here and note his several comments. But be sure you have a crying towel handy. Omigosh, he is just so appalled that anyone could question his decisions and be so uncharitable. Let's all send him teddy bears he can hug in his safe space. Fr. Martin is remarkably thin-skinned for a man so quick to judge others.

Like the men in Roman collars who transferred their loyalty from Christ and His Church to the English monarchs in the 16th and 17th centuries, Fr. Martin has sold out the faith for the adulation of the popular and politically correct. Perhaps he is himself a homosexual; for sure he is a homosexualist (one who promotes normalization of homosexuality) advancing ideas about sexuality that are in total opposition to Catholic truth.

2:00 a.m. September 23, 2014

Dear Friends,

On November 26th, 2008 Islamic terrorists set off a series of bombs in the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel in Mumbai, India. Hundreds of tourists and businessmen were trapped inside.

The terrorists stormed the beach outside the hotel and began an organized assault with machine guns. They intended on killing everyone inside.

An American businessman was among those trapped inside.

To save himself, he crawled into the air-conditioning duct in the ceiling of the hotel. He could hear explosions throughout the hotel, bombs and machine gunfire. He heard the screams of victims.

He lay still and prayed, and he made one phone call.

He called the father of a 9-year-old boy named Brendan Kelly who lived across the globe in Great Falls, Virginia.

The terrified man asked for 9-year-old Brendan’s prayers so that he would be delivered from almost certain horrifying death at the hands of fanatics.

Here’s the amazing thing.

Brendan Kelly was not only 9 years old, he had Down syndrome and --- even more than that --- suffered most of his life from leukemia. (Read more here....)

Austin Ruse and Crazy Cultural Hypocrisy...

...where "words kill" and literal killing is just a choice.

What am I talking about? A few days ago Austin Ruse, head of C-FAM (Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute), a U.N. watch dog group, filled in as a guest host on American Family Radio. During the show he said this about gender studies what passes for education at the modern university:

That is the nonsense that they teach in women’s studies at Duke University, this is where she learned this. The toxic stew of the modern university is gender studies, it’s “Sex Week,” they all have “Sex Week” and teaching people how to be sex-positive and overcome the patriarchy. My daughters go to a little private religious school and we pay an arm and a leg for it precisely to keep them away from all of this kind of nonsense. I do hope that they go to a Christian college or university and to keep them so far away from the hard left, human-hating people that run modern universities, who should all be taken out and shot.

Does anyone seriously think Austin literally advocates the execution of college professors?

When Pro-Lifers Muddle the Issues!

Austin Ruse heads up C-FAM, the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, in New York which is the major pro-life watchdog at the U.N. They do great work. So it was particularly unsettling to see Ruse's article on Crisis Magazine's website, Is Contraception the Hill We Want to Die On? Essentially, the article is an endorsement of Barbara Comstock who's running to fill Frank Wolf's congressional seat for the 10th District of Virginia despite positions that seriously conflict with Catholic teaching and the pro-life issue specifically.

The problem in Ruse's view, is that a solid pro-life candidate, Bob Marshall, a Virginia state delegate, has filed to run against Comstock in the Republican primary. Rather than celebrating this solid pro-life candidate, Ruse, who supports Comstock, raised a straw man to attack Bob's candidacy. Contraception. His article argues against the possibility of making contraception illegal, as if anyone, including Bob, is trying to do that. What he really objects to is Bob's criticism of Comstock's morally unjustifiable act supporting the over-the-counter sale of so-called "contraceptives" that actually cause abortion.
