Under the Radar: The Second Pro-LIfe Super Bowl Ad
The feminists made a federal case over the Tim Tebow ad, but missed the real pro-life, pro-family ad - Google's. The ad tells the story of a long distance courtship through googling, beginning with a search for studying abroad. Not only does the guy, a student in Paris, meet the girl at a sidewalk cafe (which he found on Google), who thinks he's cute (He googles a translation.), but after he returns to the states he carries on a long distance courtship which ends with marriage at a church (with tolling bells) found on Google. His last Google is "how to assemble a crib" with a baby cooing in the background. Talk about supporting marriage and the traditional family! The ad was clever and heartwarming.
You can bet that the gays and the radical fems wouldn't like this one either if they thought about it, but the ad generated absolutely no controversy. (I know because I googled.) One can only come to the conclusion that the pro-aborts were so focused on the Tebow ad that this one passed right under their radical radar.
Google gets two thumbs up!
Was that it? Thanks, ladies, for connecting the Tebow ad to abortion!
I was reading a silly article this morning that claims the Tebow ad strikes new ground by introducing morality into the Super Bowl, as if the ads glorifying drinking and sex don't involve morality. (Does anyone remember the disgusting clown ad a few years ago and the feminist ad claiming domestic violence is worst on Super Bowl Sunday based on non-existent research?) But what I found more interesting than the dumb article were the comments. Those who disagreed with the ad and were pro-abortion launched into ad hominem and even vicious attacks. I've collected some:
Bret: she shoudve aborted him
Rocco: somebody shoot Tebow PLEASE!!!
B Money: Tim should have been aborted.
A: I wish Tim Tebow had been aborted. You know, it's still not too late.
"d": tebow is a fat closet case. that is why he puts all those scriptures on his eye black..to distract people, and make them think there's No way he could be gay...his favorite part of the game is shower time.
gene c: tebow's mom looks like a hooker.
r: his mom is a whore
David P: Tebow is a douche
circlebs: Screw Teblow and his mama!
bullsfan2010: she aborted her first 2 kids and felt guilty and kept little timmy. most pro lifer women have already had an abortion and feel so guilty that they dont want anyone else to have the choice they did. they some how believe they will be forgiven.
Brian: tebows mom, jeffrey dahmers mom, charles mansons mom and hitlers mom all got something in common. they all chose life. they all chose wrong
Wow! What a representation of reasoned argument and charity! And I left out the blasphemous comments and those targeting Focus on the Family as a hate group like the KKK. I browsed several hundred of the comments (over 1500 on the site) and saw only one ad supporter who suggested that the feminists should keep aborting their children. On the other hand, many comments were thoughtful and respectfully debated the issue. But If I were doing a paper on the incivility of anonymous comments, I'd have to rate the pro-abortion folks hands-down winners. They scored high on the hate index. Interesting how the hatemonger label is always attached to pro-lifers and Christians because they refuse to call evil good.
Visit Focus on the Family to hear the inspiring story of the Tebows. They chose life before "Timmy" was even conceived. What a witness to faith and service to the poor. They talk the talk and walk the walk. Pray for the Tebows. They are an inspiring family who love the Lord and their actions speak as loudly as their words.

A global warming "prophet" with snow on his face!
RFK, Jr. 15 months ago: Global warming means no snow or cold in DC
We could all use a little global warming about now in the D.C. area. Here's what it looks like in the western part of northern Virginia. I had to trudge through snow halfway up my thighs to get to the bird feeders. I fell and almost couldn't get up again. So thanks, Bobby Junior, but you're no Isaiah. Maybe you should just zip the lip. And by the way, how about grounding the private jet if you are so concerned about the carbon footprint.
Thanks to Gary Morella for sending this item. It's too good not to pass on.

Te Deum Laudamus has posted a portion of an interview conducted by a German newspaper with theologian Manfred Hauke on Medjugorje. (You can read the entire interview here.) The selection is ineresting and a warning as well about a possible backlash against the Church in the event of a negative finding because of allowing the activities there to continue for so long. That, I think, is a real possibility. I know some Medjugorje supporters who, if it came to a choice, would likely spurn the Church in favor of the seers.
I've read a lot about Medjugorje over the years and even visited around 1991 but one paragraph in the interview was new to me and shocking:
Fr. Hauke also gives an example from the Middle Ages of a nun who appeared to be a holy seer, but was actually possessed by the devil. It's certainly a cautionary tale:
I've read a lot about Medjugorje over the years and even visited around 1991 but one paragraph in the interview was new to me and shocking:
Medjugorje is often cited as an "oasis of peace" during the civil war at the beginning of the '90s. Yet there are also uncomfortable facts that disturb the harmonious view. When revenue from the pilgrimage industry went down in 1992, there were press reports in the wake of a violent conflict among three family clans that served pilgrimage businesses. In a "cleansing action" about 140 inhabitants of Medjugorje were killed, while 600 others had to flee. "This was all kept secret from the the outside world, since it naturally could not be brought into accord with belief in the Queen of Peace" (R. Franken, "A Journey to Medjugorje", 2000, p, 45). Thus there are not only good fruits to the Medjugorje phenomenon. The Medjugorje promoters in this country never share this piece of information with potential pilgrims.
Fr. Hauke also gives an example from the Middle Ages of a nun who appeared to be a holy seer, but was actually possessed by the devil. It's certainly a cautionary tale:
For the devil there is no problem, for example, in making statues cry, calling forth ecstasies and stigmata, to manipulate cameras, to make people speak in tongues, or produce marvelous scents. Because of his surpassing knowledge of the natural world he can also, to a limited degree, make assertions about the future, in cases when the influences of the already recognizable factors is extrapolated. He can also reveal hidden things that are unknown to a person (with the exception of secrets of the innermost part of man). A known example for the working of the devil in pseudo-mystical phenomena is, say, in Spain in the 16th century, the life of the religious sister Magdalena of the Cross (1487-1560). From the age of five she had plenty of ecstasies and visions. She tells the story that Saints Dominic and Francis had prepared her for receiving her first Communion. Three months before being granted permission to receive the Eucharist, she is receiving Communion daily "in a mystical manner", in which every time she emits a scream. At the age of 17 she enters a convent of the Poor Clares in Cordoba. She receives stigmata and clairvoyantly knows how to find hidden objects. At her perpetual profession the nuns are surprised at the lengthy presence of a dove, which is taken to be a sign of the Holy Spirit. Karl I, the king of Spain, has Magdalena bless, among other things, the royal standard and the clothing of his son Philip. Cardinal Cisneros and numerous other princes of the Church are also impressed. Even the Holy Father personally asked the Spanish Poor Clare for her intercession. Only a few reflective contemporaries such as St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. John of Avila remain skeptical. Their doubts are confirmed when the Poor Clares start to wonder about the lax leadership of their superior and elect a successor. The "miracle nun" was then visited with convulsions. When the exorcism undertaken thereafter exposes a demonic presence, the Inquisition undertakes a trial against Magdalena. In it she testifies that in the year 1504 she made a forty-year pact with the devil, which had reached its end in 1544. Her paranormal abilities ceased. After she abjured her errors, she does penance for several years, she can no longer be elected to any offices in the Order, and lives an exemplary life until her death. In other words: the devil can succeed to make fools of the highest princes of the Church for decades long. Such an example warns us to caution in the face of present-day happenings.Fr. Hauke discusses the Medjugorje phenomenon, and apparitions in general, so clearly that this interview is essential reading for those interested in the subject. I also recommend Donal Foley's book, Understanding Medjugorje.
Warning: the sicko Super Bowl ad turned down by CBS
A lot of angry liberals are screaming the past few weeks over the "unfairness" of CBS agreeing to air the Tebow ad, but refusing the homosexual ad. After viewing the homosexual ad (below), I applaud CBS for not offending families with this piece of trash. How would you like to be sitting there with a roomful of children and have it pop up on the screen? The group promoting it is "mancrunch" but if it were a cereal it would more likely boast a name like Puppy Puffs. (Now that I think of it, I'll bet the homosexual obsession with body building is explained by the desire to at least look like men.)
There's nothing manly about lust, homosexual or heterosexual. The sex-oriented advertising on the Super Bowl has been awful for a long time. Not being a football fan, I generally don't watch except for the company. Several years ago I was so sickened by the ads (and the halftime show) I left the room to play with the children who fortunately weren't interested in the game.
And if you're a parent, keep your trigger finger on the remote and your eye on the screen to censor the poison before your children are exposed to it. And that goes double for teenagers! It would be good to talk about it before the game starts. Imprinting lewd images in the imagination fills the devils workshop with the tools of temptation.

I'll be watching the Super Bowl today for only TWO reasons: Tim Tebow and his mom, Pam.
Take notes during the Super Bowl. Be sure to thank CBS for running the Tebow ad and for refusing to air the inappropriate homosexual ad. And contact the companies that use lewdness and vulgarity to sell their products. It's high time they paid a price in lost revenue for offending potential customers.

Do You Feel Sorry for this Climategate Fraud?
I thought of killing myself, says climate scandal professor Phil Jones
After reading the above article I had to scratch my head. Why would the press run it? What's the news? That Professor Jones is suffering from depression? And that he stands by his fraudulent work 100%? Does the public really care? And did Professor Jones really get death threats? After all, he and his pals lied about scientific data. Might he not also lie to arouse the sympathy of the world? And is the media an enabler? Poor Professor Jones, victim of those big bad global warming deniers.
Of course, it's possible he got death threats. I have no doubt that people can be brutal. I have a file full of personal hate mail including several anonymous letters that could be perceived as threatening. I tend to shrug. Anonymous hatemongers are such cowards, I doubt they're much threat.
But why should we feel sorry for Jones anyway. After all, these guys rejoiced in their emails over the death of a scientist who was a global warming skeptic. And they colluded to make sure that those scientists outside their club would never be published in the peer reviewed journals they controlled and even those they didn't. Couldn't let any facts that contradict their lies see the light, could they?
I hope readers will pray for Jones and all the liars with Ph.D.s after their names. He would have no trouble sleeping at night if he repented of his actions, humbly apologized, and made a firm purpose of amendment henceforth to be an honest man. Is that so hard?
But I'm glad he has a five-year-old granddaughter to give him a reason to live. He should reflect on the example his actions have given her and resolve to offer her a better one in the future.

A snowy meditation
God has a sense of humor. You have a to-do list a mile long? Two feet of snow can change your priorities real quick. The top item on our agenda over the past 24 hours has been plowing and shoveling. Last major snowfall (17 inches) we were trapped because our looong driveway was totally impassable. (A kind neighbor came to our aid fortunately.) This time we decided to be pro-active.
I've gone through two jackets, three pairs of pants, and three sets of gloves. I found out my rainhat is 100/% waterproof and it kept my head dry. And for the last few trecks out I figured if I draped a poncho (the one in the closet that serves as a chasuble when "Paka" plays Mass with the grandkids) over the back of the tractor and my legs, it would act like a blanket and keep me dry. It worked! No more wet seat and legs. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention.
At 3:30 we headed out again for what we hoped would be the last time. The driveway is getting narrower and narrower, but so far is still passable. I have never seen so much snow in my entire life. We've had a fir tree uproot and another tree fell on the trampoline which will disappoint the grandchildren, but we are praising God that the electricity is still on because if it goes we have no water. (On the other hand, two feet of snow is a lot of water. We certainly won't go thirsty! And we have plenty of wood for a fire.)
Real Catholic TV pegs it again: It's about you, Bishops, not John Carr!
John who? The continuing scandals at the USCCB are not about individual laymen there, they are about the dereliction of the bishops. So far there has been NO response to the fundamental charges of funding groups that promote abortion and homosexuality in direct opposition to Catholic doctrine. This story is NOT going away. Lay people are sick of the hypocrisy and irresponsibility of the bishops' conference and we want answers. Stop circling the wagons, Bishops, and come clean. Meanwhile, folks, its time to cut off the money...every single penny!

Time out for a weather report
Yikes! The snow is coming down like crazy and we are slated to get somewhere around two feet by tomorrow night. This global warming is really starting to get inconvenient. We have chains on the tires and the snowplow on the front of the John Deere, but whether we'll be able to keep up with the blizzard is questionable. Last snowfall (17 inches) our neighbor who has a BIG tractor came over and dug us out. My only regret about this storm is that it didn't happen before the congressional break. There is something heartwarming about the thought of several hundred senators and congresmen snowbound at the capitol with the cafeteria running out of coffee and bagels. A little fasting would do them all good. On the other hand, maybe it's better they've all gone home. They might expand their verbal cannibalism after a few days into the literal kind.
Of course they could all slog over to the White House through the blizzard and sit down for a bi-partisan tete-a-tete with Barack and Michelle over an arugula salad. Maybe the Obamas have one of their favorite chefs from around the country snowed in for the duration. And Scott Brown could go one in one with the prez in the White House gym.
But it's a moot point after all since they went home before the bad weather started. Can we pray that the storm snows them out for awhile? It would be good for Washington's carbon emissions and good for the country.
