Nabi Sayeth: When is the last time you pondered the gifts of the Holy Spirit? Do you remember them? Here’s a refresher for you:
They are: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude (courage), knowledge, piety, and fear (to have profound reverence for or to be in awe) of the Lord.

I'm with Fr. Trigilio: Man Up, Cardinal Mahony
...and back off the Benny Bashing!
Cardinal Mahony may be called a prince of the Church, but he has no class. He's bad mannered, childish, and has committed horrors against the Church. So where does he get off with his criticism of Pope Benedict? Not to mention that one never noticed that the prince of L.A. lived the simple life of an ascetic monk. I wish he would just be quiet. He adds nothing to the conversation but inanities and whining.
As for the trappings of the Church, their beauty is available to all -- not just the rich and the high and mighty. When all the churches are reduced to 1960s style cinder block monstrosities and all the vestments are ponchos and all the stained glass windows look like glass paintings from Hobby Lobby who loses the most? The rich with their personal art collections and fancy homes furnished by designers - or the poor? I know how I feel as a Catholic when I visit a magnificent cathedral and I know how I feel when I visit one of the drive-in looking churches like the one built by Mahony in L.A. Give the poor something magnificent in both their churches and the liturgy. Why should the rectory be fancier than the church?.
And please, Cardinal Mahony, close down your girly blog and cancel your snide Twitter account! You're embarrassing yourself!

Oh Please...Cardinal Mahony Channels the Holy Spirit?
I read Cardinal Mahony's blog now and then for amusement. And now we know he never decided to vote for Cardinal Bergoglio. The Holy Spirit made him do it:
I picked up my pen to write, and I began. However, my hand was being moved by some greater spiritual force. The name on the ballot just happened. I had not yet narrowed my thinking down to one name; but it was done for me.
I wrote it, then trembled deeply. That's when I knew the Holy Spirit was fully working within the Church of Jesus Christ, and that my role was not to "select" the new Successor to Peter, but to "write down" his name--a name that had been given to me.

Cardinal Mahony and His Legacy: It Ain't Pretty
I have to confess, I am somewhat cynical when it comes to believing that dissenter-cardinals who have scandalized their flocks for decades in complete arrogance are likely to change. And, yes, that means you, Cardinal Mahony. In fact, Roger Mahony has done more to destroy the faith in the U.S. than most cardinals. Not only was Mahony a major enabler of child sex abuse, but his West Coast catechetical conference is an ongoing scandal that undermines the faith of catechists and therefore the children they teach. Mahony is a double whammy child abuser: enable children's physcial abuse and enable their spiritual abuse as well. And do it unapologetically for years and years and years.
So pardon me please if I'm a bit of a skeptic when I read about Mahony's new "call to humiliation?" And, frankly, I don't see much humility in his description. Here's a little of what Mahony wrote on his "humiliation" blog post:

We Need a Case of Raid to Clean Out the Mahony/Bernardine Legacy
Pray for Cardinal Mahony. Sometimes disgrace leads to a serious examination of conscience. Let's pray that happens with Mahony. The damage he and his cronies inflicted on Holy Mother Church is incalculable.

Mahony's Evil Chickens Finally Come Home to Roost
Archbishop Gomez relieves Cardinal Mahony of duties; Bishop Curry steps down
Mahony managed to escape his just deserts for a long time, but his evil has finally caught up with him. Let's pray that it causes soul-searching and repentance. Think of people like Chuck Coulson who found their true ministry in jail. A little jail time for Mahony would probably do his soul good. I know when I was in jail (for rescuing babies) it was an opportunity to reflect on what's really important. Well, I doubt if he'll spend a minute in jail, but let's pray the humiliation is a blessing. Fr. John Hardon always said that only humble people get into heaven and we become humble through humiliation. Let's pray for Cardinal Mahony.

Roger Cardinal Mahony is REALLY Upset about Arizona's Immigration Law
Cardinal Mahony is really, really upset about the Arizona law. The man who managed to stay calm, cool, and collected (and covering up) over the rape and sex abuse of children is a bleeding heart for those who sneak across our borders illegally. Mahony is outraged over the new law in Arizona which has as its objective the protection of Arizona citizens from murderous thurgs operating drug cartels and other illegals invading the country. He calls the law "the country's most retrogressive, mean-spirited, and useless anti-immigrant law." (Yikes!)He's also accused the state of "reverting to German Nazi and Russian Communist techniques whereby people are required to turn one another in to the authorities on any suspicion of documentation."
Wow! Don't we wish he had shown the same concern for the children of his diocese instead of intimidating parents and using diocesan lawyers (and money from the faithful) to protect himself and avoid facing the music?
George Will takes the Cardinal to task in an excellent column titled When Indignation Trumps Information. It's well worth reading. As for Cardinal Mahony - somebody give him a Prozac

Cardinal Mahony: The Catholic Faith is Above His Paygrade
Please, Lord, give us patience and fortitude in large supply -- we need them to tolerate Cardinal Roger Mahony's blather. In fact, the Cardinal is a living illustration of the Peter Principle: "In a Hierarchy Every Employee Tends to Rise to His Level of Incompetence." Cardinal Mahony got there the day he was ordained, but unfortunately some nasty things tend to float to the top -- ever noticed the aurface of a stagnant pond?
For a Cardinal of the Church to say that whether to exclude child-killing from the health care bill is "way behind my field" is not only absolutely outrageous, it's downright satanic. And I use that word deliberately. Cardinal Mahony is a wolf in sheep's clothing who has spent years destroying the faith in Los Angeles. He should get the boot instead of courageous bishops like Joseph Martino. Mahony's legacy (besides enabling homosexual child abuse) is a cathedral that looks like a drive-in movie theatre an androgenous statue of the Mary that is a shameful representation of the Mother of God.
I'm going for a walk to pray to work off some frustration and pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for this wicked Cardinal. He reminds me of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey in England, Henry VIII's chancellor. I hope on his deathbed (if not before) Cardinal Mahony has the humility to repent and repeat Wolsey's words, "If I had served my God as diligently as I did my king, He would not have given me over in my grey hairs."

Mahony's Dissent Fest Over for another Year
Every year Cardinal Roger Mahony of L.A. puts on a so-called Religious Education Conference that features a gaggle of heretics well-known for undermining the faith. The event is always a throwback to the 60s with numerous liturgical abuses, dancing girls, and silliness we hoped was over decades ago. But with the FBI looking into his coverup of the sex-abuse crisis and the millions paid out in settlements, Mahony apparently needs a little distraction and perhaps this suffices. Witnesses from Concerned Roman Catholics of America were both outside and inside the convention. Those outside reported harrassment by security personnel who threatened arrest but later backed down when the police upheld their legal right to be there. An inside witness reported on the closing Mass and several workshops she attended.
"I was at The Three Days of Darkness Congress this weekend and I have video footage of it. The closing mass was.. well... I have no kind words to describe it. The liturgical abuses were at an all time high with lay liturgical dancers incensing the altar and people walking up stairs with glass goblets filled with the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. [Editor's note: The Body and Blood of Christ are required to be held in sacred vessels made of worthy and enduring material. Anything breakable is excluded as are baskets which can be seen in this photo of the Consecration.]
"When one sister actually spilled on the stairs the Precious Species, she tried wiping up the Precious Blood but got flustered and kept moving. Yes, I witnessed this on video and will be sending Cardinal Mahony the video.... Cardinal Mahony's homily was all about himself being driven out into the desert because of the Federal Grand Jury after him because of sex abuse scandals in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
"I [attended a workshop given by] Dr. Greer Gordon who happily invited an investigation [into] documents in the Vatican Library archives...[claiming] that The Church blessed same sex unions. She was promoting monagamous same sex unions!
"Another speaker, Sr. Barbra Fiand, [Ed's note: She is a well known dissenter who regularly speaks at Call to Action conferences.] promoted shamanism and says we all are stardust same as animmals and plants and she poo pooed Indulgences. All of this was recorded. After what I endured at this Congress I don't think Cardinal Mahony is going to have a change of heart towards the Tridentine Mass any time soon, because he can't even do the ordinary form of The Mass right!
"Yes the archdiocese does VIRTUS program. One of the talks I attended was presented by Dr.Tom Beaudoin [Ed: another dissenter]. This talk was a panel discussion [by] an open homosexual man and woman [and] two parents of homosexual children. The mother on the panel who leads a group of parents of homosexuals at her parish in southern California said she teaches the Virtus program at her parish. She was very proud of this program....The panel promoted same sex unions and ridiculed Church teachings. The father on the panel ridiculed Bishop Soto's speech given at The Queen Mary conference on homosexuals. This father said that The bishop was just reading a Vatican document and that he should have been supporting the homosexual movement. The female open homosexual on the panel said that she and her partner were godparents for her niece's baptism. [Ed's note: This violates the requirement for godparents. Those living in public scandal are ineligible.] This same woman got mad at an attendee of this talk because she wanted this person and everyone to vocally support same sex unions. The male open homosexual young man said [Sr.Edith Pendergrast encouraged him] to give his story.... [He] also ridiculed The Church's teachings on [homosexuality]. Sr. Edith Pendergrast is the main person [organizing] the Cngress every year. This panel discussion was not recorded but they said they wanted it recorded so they can reach people in their parishes to support the homosexual movement. They all claimed it is a civil rights movement!"
We offer this last photo with a suggestion that Cardinal Mahony make the theme song for the conference, Come to the Cabaret. There were altar babes everywhere and the music, band, lighting, and ambience offered all the reverence of a night club. Good job, Your Eminence! One note of hope -- Cardinal Mahony was born in 1936 so the end is in sight. If Rome won't discipline him at least we have hopes that his resignation will be accepted by return email when he tenders it in two years. Protest this terrible Conference by writing to:
