Remember Uncle Tom's Cabin? Will Alfie and Charlie's Stories Start Another Great War?

There's a popular story, which may be apocryphal, about Abraham Lincoln meeting Harriet Beecher Stowe, the Connecticut-born writer and abolitionist who wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin. Lincoln supposedly greeted her saying, "so you are the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war." Whether or not the story is true, the book did, in fact, influence northern attitudes toward slavery which, at least in part, contributed to the conflict.

Alfie Evans is dead -- murdered very systematically by a tyrannical health service backed up by a liberal, gay friendly judge. It's no real surprise, is it? We're accustomed to the headlines. We followed the story of Charlie Gard. 

As a mother and grandmother I have a hard time wrapping my mind around this kind of evil where doctors and judges can snatch the authority over children from good parents who love and care for their little ones and deliberately conspire to kill them. Why?

Who has the right to make decisions over Alfie's medical treatment? Or even where he dies? The U.K. says it's judges and doctors. Move over, parents, your children belong to the state and if they don't measure up, it's "Sayonara, baby!" Alder Hey Children's Hospital even put a police guard outside the little one's room to make sure his parents don't remove the baby from their "loving" care.

This little one is likely to end up the same way Charlie Gard did -- dead by doctors' mandate.

If the death peddlers say your little one's case is hopeless, even if you raise money to pay for treatment and have an air ambulance ready to take him to another hospital (like Alfie's parents do) they will kill your child anyway. What do you know about it, you stupid parents? We are the scientists and medical experts and we say it's time to die!

During the agony in the U.K. over precious sick baby Charlie Gard, I kept thinking of the soup nazi on the TV comedy Seinfeld. Only the fight wasn't an on-going joke over a bowl of soup, but a real-life struggle over the life of a child and the parental rights of his mom and dad.

You can tell a lot about the philosophy of a person by the decisions he makes. There isn't much online about Nicholas Francis, the presiding high court judge who ruled over the Charlie Gard case. But he clearly has little regard for the Catholic teaching that parents are the primary decision makers over their children. Francis ruled in favor of the hospital's death wish every time the parents appeared in court.

You know when I make pancakes sometimes I put one on the pan before it's hot enough or, on the other hand, the pan is too hot. The pancake comes out very anemic-looking or burnt to a crisp. Sometimes I just set it aside as not quite good enough to serve guests. 

Is that what our children are now? Imperfect pancakes? The ones set aside for the dog or the trash? Just try again for the perfect pancake?

This reminded me of a friend years ago. She went to the hospital emergency room for what turned out to be type 2 diabetes. She thought she was pregnant at the time and, like many doctors today, the attending physician asked her if she wanted the pregnancy.

Challenging the Death Peddlars: Charlie Gard and Jahi McMath

The death peddlars may have won a round in the U.K. with their soon-to-be elimination of little Charlie Gard. His death will be a victory for the law of self-fulfilling prophecies. Charlie's case was hopeless they said and they went about making sure their medical opinion was verified by his death. Had Charlie received the experimental treatment his parents wanted in JANUARY, the little boy might be improving and doing well today like so many other miracle babies. 

Well, there's a new round coming up with the case of Jahi McMath who was declared dead by a California coroner in 2013, but continues to live today. (Jahi McMath’s family wins backing for argument that she’s alive.) Jahi requires a ventilator to help her breathe, but she is very much alive. Can a dead body begin menstruating? Jahi did. Can a dead body grow and require hair cuts and nail clipping? Jahi does. Can a dead body respond to commands to move? Jahi moves and responds to commands by family members.

Doctors and judges aren't gods. Unfortunately, many of them are confused and think they are. And so they make decisions about the "quality" of life of patients and often devalue those that, in their godlike opinions, just don't measure up.

Charlie Gard has taught us a lot. He's taught us that many parents don't have the right to make medical decisions for their children any more. He's taught us that many doctors resemble Dr. Mengele more than Dr. Schweitzer and that radical judges and courts are modern "Big Brothers."

And he's taught us that the spirit of the Third Reich is alive and well in the U.K.

Just as doctors and judges devalued life in Germany through the T4 euthanasia program, the doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London followed in the footsteps of those sames doctors who put checks next to the names of the retarded, WW I amputees, and other "useless eaters" marked for death.

Really...should we be surprised? The Pontifical Academy for Life's new member roundup includes a number of anti-life advocates. One is pro-abortion, another is pro-euthanasia. Consider the statement on Baby Charlie Gard in that light. It completely ignores the fact that parents, not doctors or courts, have the right to make choices for their children (Obviously we aren't talking about parents who have their rights removed because they abuse or neglect their children.)

In Greek mythology Thanatos was the personification of death. He is the minor god that most inspires the morally bankrupt culture of death. Those who worship death, like the English death panel, are like the false mother in the Solomon story. The child must die to justify her grief. Misery loves company. It isn't grief that these doctor ghouls are justifying -- it's their lust for power and control. They think they are gods with the power over life and death. WE decree that WE know better than the parents and by OUR decree baby Charlies must "DIE WITH DIGNITY!"
