Trolling the lunatics or anti-Confederate iconoclasm?

"And that horse - it ate LIVING PLANTS."
On August 17th it was reported that someone had sprayed "TEAR IT DOWN" on the base of the golden statue of St Joan of Arc on Decatur Street in New Orleans' French Quarter. The incident actually happened May 5th, well before Charlottesville. (The anti-Confederate hoopla has been going on since banning the Confederate flag awhile back.)

This would seem to relate to the tearing down of America's Confederate monuments across the South, five alone in Baltimore stealthily in the middle of the night this past week.

Amy Kirk Duvoisin, the founder of the annual Joan of Arc parade that ceremonially pauses at the statue on the first day of Carnival season, says she's confused by the vandalism. "Surely, people realize she's not related to American history," she said referring to the French icon. "The Joan of Arc statue also offers one of the few female representations in statue form, occupying a part in the small faction of monuments dedicated to underrepresented and minority peoples."

The two linked articles tell the the story, however what I like to read are the comments, some of which are hilarious but all too true, mainly because those who want the statue torn down have no idea who St Joan of Arc was. Therefore, many thanks to the authors of the comments below.

"Yep, these millennials are really well educated! Here she is carrying a flag on horseback, so obviously a member of the oppressor class."

"They figured it's on a horse so it must be a Confederate soldier."

"And that horse - it ate LIVING PLANTS."

"Arc... it must be short for, like, ARKANSAS!!"

"If this keeps up, we won't have to teach history in school, if they still do that."

"Whoa, wait a minute... Now I'm really confused..... she is a young woman who dressed as a man... isn't she one of the protected class???"

"I'm confused..... did Joan of Arc have slaves or sold/traded them?"

"It was cultural appropriation. New Orleans must give its city back to the French!"

"I suspect it was a Tolkien fan upset that they commemorated Joan of Orcs."

"A leftie is not educated enough to know any history let alone European history. Maybe if a sign is posted to say the rider is a woman. But on the other hand she was a Christian, and aren't they on the list of those to be destroyed for utopia to bloom..."

"As a Brit, I am shocked, shocked, I tell you, that there are statues of this French harridan openly visible on the streets of an American city. Sharp diplomatic note to follow...."

"Well, the statue depicts her astride a horse, so she must have been a Confederate."

"Mount Rushmore: it's only a matter of time."

"I guess their thinking was: Joan was French. France was instrumental in the founding of the US. The US was partly founded by slave-owners. Joan would have supported slavery."

"She is white, militarist, and a Christian to boot. No room for the Maid of Orleans in our diverse and liberal society."

"Of course, the Maid of Orleans fought alongside Robert E Lee against the Germans in the War of Jenkins Ear."

"This isn't someone trolling the lunatics. They really are that stupid."
