The Plagues are Upon Us!

Some of the plagues are "natural" in the sense that no one has deliberately set them in motion. Others have been inflicted on specific populations for unethical experimentation. Others are the consequence of immoral behavior freely chosen. But in any case, all these "plagues" are likely communal punishments for society's sins whether they are inflicted on us as natural consequences or allowed by God to bring us to our senses.

Certainly, those linked to immorality, like the explosion of STDs, are a direct result of people's evil choices. As the saying goes, "You can't fool Mother Nature." The natural law lives in each one of us and we all know deep inside when we are violating the laws of "nature's God." But God never punishes us out of vindictiveness; He chastises us out of love. He waits with open arms for our us to repent, turn back to Him, and allow Him to embrace us. As Francis Thompson has Him say to the sinner in The Hound of Heaven:

"All which I took from thee I did but take,
Not for thy harms,
But just that thou might'st seek it in My arms.
All which thy child's mistake
Fancies as lost, I have stored for thee at home:
Rise, clasp My hand, and come!"
Halts by me that footfall:
Is my gloom, after all,
Shade of His hand, outstretched caressingly?
"Ah, fondest, blindest, weakest,
I am He Whom thou seekest!
Thou dravest love from thee, who dravest Me."
Consider the plagues upon us and pray in reparation that the Hound of Heaven will have mercy on us and never stop pursuing us!
