If I Want to Love God, I Need to Know Him!

And how can we know him? Look to the pillars of the Church: Scripture, Tradition, and Doctrine as taught by the Magisterium. Prayer isn't mentioned specifically in that trio, but it is certainly implied. Reading scripture in prayer involves stopping to reflect and meditate. If we read scripture with the intent of meeting God through His Word, how can we not stop along the way to chat with Him?

  • "What did you mean, Lord, when you told the woman at the well that you had living water for her?"
  • "You sent angels with messages. What angels in my life are bringing messages? Am I listening?"
  • "You taught Job and Tobit through suffering. What is this suffering in my life meant to teach me?"
  • "How can I be more like Mary and the shepherds, going 'in haste to give you glory?'"
On this last day of the year, as I reflect on 2025 looking back, I ask myself, "Have I grown closer to Jesus in this year? How much time have I wasted on useless pursuits? Where have I succeeded; where have I failed? And then I want to turn my vision toward 2026.

This morning I visited Fr. Gordon MacRae's website, Beyond These Stone Walls, where I found an interesting overview of his posts on Sacred Scripture. As I finish reading Isaiah, I have been reflecting on where to go next in my bible. Father has 32 posts on Scripture which could easily be a year's long journey. I read the first article as a sort of intro and plan to begin reading his others after I finish the last six chapters of Isaiah.

May 2026 be, for all of us, a journey to the center of the faith where we will surely meet the Lord of the Dance.
