I hardly recognize the country I grew up in these days. In 1963 when JFK was shot I was a sophomore in high school. Everyone in the country, all the leaders in government, joined in mourning. Were there some conspirators crying crocodile tears? The more we learn, the more it seems likely, but no one publicly rejoiced or danced in the streets. Of course, social media was non-existent: no Tik Tok or Instagram or Facebook so we were spared the fulminations of lunatics. Did people rejoice over evil? If they did, it was private. I don't remember anyone saying, "He deserved it" about Kennedy or Martin Luther King or Robert Kennedy. The country pulled together in shock and grief.

We are Democrat vs. Republican, law and order vs. chaos and rioting, black vs. white, tyranny vs. freedom, etc. Increasingly, disagreements result in "mob" action promoted by "progressive" politicians, liberal courts, and prosecutors who justify and enable rioting and violence both by their words and actions. Organized handlers infiltrate and instigate violent mob action. Police find pallets of bricks, knapsacks with incendiary devices, and other riot gear in strategic locations as they did in Kansas City. I'm reading a book called The Crowd published in 1896 written by a Frenchman, Gustave Le Bon. It may be the earliest study of mob psychology and it is very interesting and revealing. Le Bon asserts that certain crowds essentially abandon individual thinking for the collective mind which, when you think about it, is self-evident. He puts it this way:

Under certain given circumstances, and only under those circumstances, an agglomeration of men presents new characteristics very different from those of the individuals composing it. The sentiments and ideas of all the persons in the gathering take one and the same direction, and their conscious personality vanishes. A collective mind is formed, doubtless transitory, but presenting very clearly defined characteristics. The gathering has thus become what, in the absence of a better expression, I will call an organised crowd, or, if the term is considered preferable, a psychological crowd. It forms a single being, and is subjected to the law of the mental unity of crowds.
