Pope Francis often described the Church as a "field hospital" for sick people. Thinking along those lines, I see Bishop Athanasius Schneider as a doctor who correctly diagnoses the plague invading the Church when so many "doctors" claim the patient is healthy. He brought up five wounds in his December 18th meeting with Pope Leo and described what he sees as the prescription for healing. One of those wounds dealt with the Traditional Latin Mass and the situation with the SSPX.
Will the pope listen? In view of the meeting between Fernandez and the SSPX and the pope's refusal to meet with Fr. Pagliarani, the signs aren't particularly positive. Perhaps that's why Bishop Schneider recently revealed more explicitly the content of the meeting.
Five Wounds and One Hope: Msgr. Schneider Reveals Details of His Audience with Leo XIV
Bishop Schneider Breaks Silence – His Plea to Pope Leo XIV Shakes the Vatican!
Bishop Schneider really does act like a doctor: calm, charitable, but doesn't mince words about the condition of the patient and the need to take immediate measures for the cure. Frankly, I wish he was the pope. I fear his candor will get him the same jackbooted treatment so many bishops and priests have experienced. I will be praying for his protection and I invite you to join me: one Memorare every day specifically for him and a prayer of intercession to the Blessed Mother and St. Athanasius, his patron.
God bless you, Bishop Schneider.
The sad situation we have today is an abusive spiritual father who doesn't mind injuring his children. He beats up even those who recognize his authority, but question his terrible behavior. Does an abusive father stop being the father of his family because of the neglect or abuse of the children? The children, especially adult children, can call him out and beg him to change, but, if he refuses, does he stop being their father?
We certainly have an abusive father who inflicts terrible wounds on his children. I'll mention just a few that have caused such deep wounds the children need to seek a refuge:
- The prospective canonization of a sexual pervert, Bishop Alejandro Labaka is so egregious it's beyond belief, especially in view of the clergy homosexual sex abuse scandals! [Source]
- The pope has named a number of LGBTQ affirming bishops. Two of them are Bishop Ramón Bejarano, who was named Bishop to Monterey in December and Bishop James F. Checchio recently appointed as co-adjutor to succeed Gregory Aymond in New Orleans:
Bejarano supports sodomy and while auxiliary in San Diego celebrated a "pride" Mass featuring an activist drag queen, "Nicole" Murray-Ramirez who was allowed to speak during the Mass. [Source] He also publicly apologized to the LGBTQ community at another Mass in 2024 for the pain and suffering caused by the Church [Source], presumably for our teachings on sexual morality and the fact that sodomy is one of the sins that cries to heaven for vengeance. No doubt he will work as a bishop to figure out how "development of doctrine" can drop that one down the memory hole.
On to Checchio. While in Metuchen, Checchio covered up the misdeeds of disgraced ex-Cardinal Uncle Teddy McCarrick but also was such a fan of pro-sodomy Jesuit Fr. James Martin that he invited him to speak in the diocese in 2018. While the venue was moved due to the outcry against it, the bishop met with Martin before his talk and faux Catholic Martin gushed about the event. There's more; check the source. [Source] Checchio has shown some support for the TLM. I can't cheer him for that. It reminds me of my own life experience as a long-time pro-life chairman in my parish. Some of the easiest pastors to work with were the dissenters with an anything-goes mentality. "Do what you want as long as it doesn't inconvenience me." seemed to be their attitude. One ended up leaving the priesthood to marry a woman I carpooled with. Another spent massive amounts of parish money equipping the rectory with lavish accoutrements.
One last bad appointment:
- Recently the pope named Antonio Soddu as Archbishop of Sassari, Italy. Two years ago Soddu participated in the opening of a Masonic headquarters. While Soddu clarified that he does not subscribe to freemasonry, his participation was a scandal as pointed out by Catholic historian Roberto de Mattei who published a strong critique of the bishop's action. Keep in mind that in 2023, the CDF reiterated the condemnation of freemasonry and the ban under pain of mortal sin of joining the lodge. Pope Benedict in his Declaration on Freemasonry wrote, “The faithful who belong to Masonic associations are in a state of serious sin and cannot approach Holy Communion.” How can a bishop participate in what is obviously a celebration of Freemasonry without giving great scandal? I suggest reading de Mattei's full critique. Here's a bit:
...perhaps today, rather than heresy, we should speak of the apostasy of the bishops, that is, a global denial of the Catholic faith, expressed not only through heresies and errors, widely spread among ecclesiastical leaders, but also through a fundamental attitude expressed in words and gestures with strong symbolic meaning....One of the first acts of Msgr. Francesco Antonio Soddu, bishop of Terni since October 29, 2021, was to visit a Freemasonry headquarters, a secret organization condemned by countless Church documents that promotes a worldview directly antithetical to the Catholic one....The task of pastors is to save the souls of their flock, not to lead them to apostasy and perdition.
The crisis in the Church is real. I'll compare it to COVID, the Wuhan virus. Today the virus isn't coming from China but from Rome. Many in the flock are sick unto death and some have spiritually died. The "doctors" are missing in action except for a handful. Some of our faithful spiritual doctors are being treated the same way medical professionals who proclaimed the real cure for COVID were treated: expelled, slandered, ridiculed, etc. Meanwhile, the Fauci clones in the Church call for useless responses to the spiritual pandemic.
What is the flock to do? Follow the real doctors and ignore the false cures and treatments that make the illness worse. The faith is not a secret. God never hides His divine will. He allows evil only to bring good from it. What good could possibly come from the virus emanating from the Vatican? For those determined not to succumb to scandal: greater zeal for the true faith and serious prayer and sacrifice especially for those "shepherds" in danger of being expelled by the Great Physician for their medical malpractice.
Discouragement is not an option. We must put on protective garments to avoid infection: the armor of God! And then, like St. Charles Borromeo who faithfully ministered to his flock during plague, never fear to go among the sick to advance the cure. Share the hope that's within you, pray the rosary, give out miraculous medals, and pray unceasingly for God's help. Practice all these things with charity. The prescription is easy and the cure is assured because our God is an awesome God!
