I'm a beekeeper so when I saw this quote I had to share it.
"As it is impossible to verbally describe the sweetness of honey to one who has never tasted honey, so the goodness of God cannot be clearly communicated by way of teaching if we ourselves are not able to penetrate into the goodness of the Lord by our own experience."
+ St. Basil the Great
So many saints turn to bees in their sermons. Why is that? I think it's because a beehive is a true miracle and a witness to the order and wonder of God. A bee colony disputes the theory of evolution. The complicated nature of the colony makes the gradual development an impossibility in my opinion. What came first, the chicken or the egg? What came first, the workers, the drones or the queen. And where did the bees come from if there wasn't a queen? And how was the queen fertilized if there were no drones? I've been reading up and searching for an explanation and have yet to find one. But some brilliant scientists knows that bees came from wasps millions or billions of years ago. Interesting how scientists have a hard time predicting the weather accurately a week from now, but they can tell us assuredly what happened millions of years ago. Pardon my skepticism!
The laws of nature indicate that things become less complicated not more. Mutations usually downgrade the organism; they don't make it more complex. So how does a bee colony come into existence by slight modifications made bit by bit? If you work with bees for awhile you realize how organized and complicated things are and the explanation from natural selection rings hollow.
Darwin said himself,"If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down." He then said he had yet to find an example. How about the eye? How about the ear? How about human language?
As Holy Week reaches its culmination I invite you to take a spoonful of honey. Savor it and "taste and see the goodness of the Lord." This week we experience the pinnacle of God's goodness to us for, "Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends." But how about the Just One who lays down His life for an enemy, one who hates Him so much he screams "crucify Him!"
Let us ponder the cross and thank God every minute for His goodness to us, for His boundless love and mercy.
May Jesus Christ be praised.
That is beautiful!
