There are NO HOMEOWNERS in the United States

Will this be the only home you can afford? Move over, chickens!

Do you think of yourself as a homeowner because you bought a house? When you first  purchased a home, you probably thought, "Well, the bank and I own it until I pay off the mortgage in 20 or 30 years." Did you celebrate when you "paid it off?"

Think again. Even after you "pay off" the mortgage, you are a renter. It doesn't matter how long you've lived in your home or whether you've reached the end of the 30 year mortgage; you are a renter. The real homeowner is the government. You'll find out pretty quickly if you don't pay the PROPERTY TAXES who owns your house. The government does.

I checked to see if any states in the country have no property tax on an owner-occupied residence. Nope! Not one! Some states have relatively low personal property taxes and some offer certain exemptions that reduce the tax burden to seniors or veterans or other classifications, but no state protects "homeowners" from having their property where they live confiscated if they can't pay the taxes.

And then there are the assessments which go up and up so the government can take more and more by inflating the value of your home. Add up your property taxes for the length of time you've lived in your residence and see what percentage of the original cost you've paid...and will continue paying going forward.

We recently had a big jump in assessments in our county. One friend fears they will lose their farmette. She mostly grows flowers and keeps the parish in Woodstock well stocked, but that may come to an end if they can't afford the latest tax bill based on hiking assessments.

It brings to mind the film shorts of yesteryear showing the mustachioed villain coming to the door with the deed to the house. The poor widow with three little ones clinging to her skirts begs for time while the villain laughs and sends in his crew to put all her belongings on the front lawn as he evicts her.

We need state laws that mandate no tax on owner-occupied homes. Residents should never lose their homes because they can't pay the taxes. Tax second homes and other personal property within reason, but pass laws to protect owner-occupied residences. It's a matter of justice! Of course, if you live in Virginia forget it. Abigail Spanberger who promised to make Virginia more affordable is overseeing Democrats proposal for over 50 new taxes including on dog walking, gym membership, mattress purchases, etc. God help Virginia under these corrupt, greedy politicians. Just give all your income to Big Brother. Own nothing and be happy.
