The Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference and several other bishops in Africa have warned their flocks to stay away from the SSPX accusing them of schism. The SSPX in Kenya is disputing the charge. Fr. Pierre Champroux, who serves at the SSPX's Holy Cross Parish in Nairobi, contested the accusation stating that:SS We are not a parallel church. We remain fully Catholic and attached to the See of Peter and to his successor, Pope Leo XIV...The society of Saint Pius X is a Catholic priestly society … for the preservation and transmission of the traditional Faith, the Catholic priesthood and the immemorial Roman Rite of the Holy Mass. There is something bitterly ironic about the continent that owes Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre so much rejecting the Society he founded; although it's not surprising. We know what happened to bishops during the pontificate of Francis who showed little of the charity attributed to his patron saint. The action of the conference reminds me of a priest whistleblower who was told by his bishop, "You have no idea what I can do to you." And then he proceeded to do it, destroying the man's priesthood. Thanks be to God the bishops of Africa can't do that to the Society.
Archbishop Lefebvre was a model bishop for Africa. He is credited for founding schools and seminaries there and developing a program to ordain native priests for the flock. What a slap to now describe his spiritual sons as schismatic for doing what Archbishop Lefebvre did: passing on what he had been given.
The revolution in the Church is real and there are precious few bishops willing to admit the seriousness of the situation or the writing on the wall for turning the Catholic Church into a new Protestant cult. The next synod aims to change the governing structure and further adopt modernism. One of the only brakes on the runaway modernist train is the SSPX.
A phrase in a paragraph of the letter below disgusted me:
In a spirit of reconciliation, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith has outlined procedures for members (clerical and lay) of the SSPX, who have incurred automatic excommunication now wish to return to full communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
Can anyone take seriously as a "spirit of reconciliation" coming from a man who writes dirty books and believes hell is empty? The only "spirit of reconciliation" Cardinal Fernandez aims for is with the spirit of Vatican II. Perhaps Shakespeare was right when he had Ariel report to Prospero that the king's son had cried out as the ship was sinking, "Hell is empty and all the devils are here." The barque of Peter is certainly taking on water and, with few exceptions, the only ones who seem to be bailing and plugging up the holes in the ship are the priests of the Society.
Read the letter below and pray for all the bishops and their conferences. I look forward to the day when our own USCCB bites the dust. It undermines the good bishops and filters money to support groups that advance intrinsic moral evils. It is long past time for it to be dismantled. It seems like the same may be true for the conference of the Southern African bishops.
