When the Valley of Tears is Filled with Sunshine!

Two of my grandsons came this morning for a hike in our local state park. Our plan was to put my husband's scooter in the car and go up to the Skyline Drive's Limberlost Trail. Unfortunately, Larry was feeling sick, we stayed close to home in case I was needed. Seven Bends State Park is only ten minutes away so we packed our walking sticks and headed out.

I didn't really plan on a five-miler, but the original plan was stymied by a closed trailhead so we headed up on what ended up being a long circuit hike on four different trails. But what a glorious day to enjoy the Autumn filled with the glory of God! It reminded me of the morning prayer I began after retreat this year. Father suggested we praise and thank God for four things:

  1. For giving us physical life and restoring eternal life by His sacrifice on the cross.
  2. For offering us all the graces we need to live according to His will so we can be happy with Him in heaven. The best state to live in is the State of Grace.
  3. For all the gifts of His Divine Providence some of which the boys and I enjoyed so much in His creation today.
  4. And finally for the gifts and blessings of our individual talents. May we always use them for His glory and honor.
Every day is filled with blessings, even those that try our patience and cause us suffering. "All things work together for good to those who love the Lord and serve according to His purpose." Today, after so many days of anxiety, was a moment to rejoice in God's wonderful gift of creation and to thank Him for all the special people in my life who help when the going gets tough.

Today when we got to some steep sections my grandson offered me his arm or I used his shoulder to support myself. No man is an island as John Donne said and today reminded me of all the dear family members and friends who help me maneuver the trails with their rocks and logs and slippery leaves.

I came home tired, but refreshed in spirit, thanking God for everything!

May Jesus Christ be praised.
