Nabi Sayeth: Is the Cream Rising to the Top?

Bishop Joseph Strickland, Tyler, TX
Nabi Sayeth: Many devout Catholics are upset with the lack of true and good shepherding on the part of many Catholic bishops in the U.S. Many of the faithful prayed that the Holy Spirit would intervene, powerfully, at their fall meeting currently underway in Baltimore.

Last Wednesday we saw the workings of the Holy Spirit manifested in the unpopular yet courageous and true statements of one of the bishops:

Nabi Sayeth: To Whom Do the Bishops Pledge Allegiance?

Nabi Sayeth: You have heard by now that as the bishops began their fall meeting in Baltimore last Monday, the meeting was interrupted by a message delivered by the papal nuncio on behalf of the Vatican Congregation of bishops. The bishops were ordered to take no votes on a sexual abuse policy that would have governed the bishops themselves. Nabi Sayeth: The Disaster that is the U.S. Catholic Bishops

Nabi Sayeth: The Catholic Bishops of the United States are currently meeting in Baltimore for their fall meeting, and their ears must be burning! They are perhaps the most despised group of human beings in our country today.

Nabi Sayeth: Is This One More PR Campaign from Clueless Bishops?

[Editor's Comment: This looks like an orchestrated event with the identical letter released on the same date in dioceses in different parts of the country. Readers, has this letter appeared in your local parish bulletins? How many dioceses participated? Who wrote the letter? Did the bishops hire a PR firm to polish their image? At your expense? If this letter appeared in your bulletin, please tell us in a comment. And ask your bishop exactly WHAT is going on?]

Nabi Asketh: If the father of a family with several children should commit an act of sexual abuse against one of those children, SHOULD THE FATHER BE PERMITTED TO DEAL WITH EVERY DIMENSION OF HIS SIN AND CRIME? COULD HE BE TRUSTED TO HEAL THE HORRIBLE DAMAGE HE HAS DONE TO THE ENTIRE FAMILY?

Graphic for the bishops' November
meeting in Baltimore -- Good thing it's next
to the harbor -- plenty of water!
As the U.S. bishops prepare for their upcoming meeting in November I hope they will consider, pray, and prepare to defend the faith. There are likely to be plenty of fireworks, if the good and faithful bishops do their duty and demand a change to the circle-the-wagons, hide-the-truth manner of doing business so typical of the past.

God forbid that it's a business as usual, ho-hum, nothing-to-see-here-move-along strategy. That is, of course, what Cupich, Farrell, Wuerl, Joseph Tobin, et al will be going for. "Hey, all you right wing, rigid bishops, you've got to stop your clericalism and be pastoral like us. We love our flock, especially the altar boys.
