Embryonic stem cell research is a waste of money as well as a killer. The successes coming about from use of stem cells involve collecting them from the patient himself or use of adult stem cells. Embryonic stem cell research shows no promise for most diseases: breast cancer, Parkinson, or much of anything else. 

Why the big rage for ESC research. What makes the world go round? MONEY! If I get a treatment using my own stem cells, they are mine and there's no charge to use them. It's interesting to note that, while this abortion mill talks about how qualified their physicians are, they don't identify any. So there's no way a prospective patient could check up on the doc. Hmmm....let the buyer beware.

And thinking back about stem cells -- I wonder how many abortion mills sell the stem cells and other body parts of the babies they butcher. Aborting moms might ask for a cut of the profits to be made from killing their babies!

Good News for the "Least Ones"

Nobel prize winner Shinya Yamanaka may go down in history as the researcher who made embryonic stem cell research obsolete. Quoting moral theologian Fr. Thomas Berg, Catholic News Agency reported:

“Yamanaka will be remembered in history as the man who put human embryonic stem cell research largely out of business, motivated by reflection on the fact that his own daughters were once human embryos,” Fr. Berg, professor of moral theology at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers, N.Y. told CNA Oct. 8...“There is every potential for the morally licit use of the technique developed by Dr. Yamanaka--cell reprogramming. No part of the process need involve ethically tainted source cells,” said Fr. Berg.

The CNA article included a statement from the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community pointing out that  “recently GeronCorp., the world’s leading embryo research company, announced it was closing down its stem cell programme.”

Good news indeed! Now we can work on all the other murderous activities targeting babies in the womb.

Stem Cell Breakthrough Offers Hope without Cannibalizing Babies

A few days ago I received the following E-note from the Republican National Coalition for Life. What encouraging news! Why, in the face of the clear success with non-embryonic stem cells and the failure of embryonic stem cells to show such success, do scientists continue to pursue it? Playing God perhaps? Is it "empowering" for the scientist who has severed his ties to the Almighty to dabble in life itself? Look at Josef Mengele and Jack Kevorkian. Pray for scientists ethically pursuing medical breakthroughs. They offer true hope!

Important Break-Through In Non-Embryonic Stem Cell Research

A huge breakthrough in stem cell research was announced last week as a new study revealed another technique to create stem cells without destroying human embryos.

Known as "induced pluripotent stem" (iPS) cells, these cells are functionally equivalent to stem cells derived from embryos, but iPS cells do not have the ethical concerns of creating or harming human embryos or of requiring the use of women's eggs. The new process also has the technical benefits of being a simple technique with a high success rate that can produce a large number of both patient-specific as well as disease-specific stem cell lines.

Many stem cell researchers are heralding the new technique and indicating that they will be concentrating in this area rather than embryonic stem cells in the future. This development underscores the need for any federal funding to be directed at this ethical, cutting edge area of scientific research rather than embryo-destructive research.

Prior to adjourning, the House passed by a voice vote the Stem Cell Therapeutic and Research Act (S. 3751), a five-year reauthorization of the National Cord Blood Inventory Program which had previously passed the Senate. Umbilical cord blood is an ethical and effective way of procuring adult stem cells which are successfully treating over 70 diseases and does not involve destroying human embryos.

Meanwhile, federally funded embryonic stem cell research projects are continuing thanks to a recent federal circuit court ruling which reverses an August 23 preliminary injunction issued by federal Judge Royce Lamberth. Even though the Dickey-Wicker federal law bars federal taxpayer dollars from being spent for research using human embryonic stem cells, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit has reversed the preliminary injunction, allowing federal funding of such embryo-destructive research to continue until the case is decided, ultimately at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Clueless or Culpable? Ave Maria Steps in it Again!

Ave Maria Town seems to be a magnet for controversy. The latest bit of scandal is the cozy relationship between Jackson Labs and Tom Monaghan. Jackson Labs has a long history in the eugenics business and internationally is promoting embryonic stem cell research. And yet, they are being welcomed with open arms by the president of Ave Maria University, Nicholas Healy, and Tom Monaghan.

Here's what researcher, Randy Engel, reports about the relationship:

Barron Collier Companies of Southwest Florida in partnership with the Domino pizza magnate and Catholic philanthropist, Thomas S. Monahan (sic), is the creator of Ave Maria Town, home of Ave Maria University. The new Institute will be situated off Oil Well Road about three miles from the Ave Maria campus on the southwestern edge of property originally controlled by Ave Maria Development.

Last year, Blake Gable, Ave Maria Town project manager and President of Barron Collier’s Real Estate Division approached Monahan to discern if his firm’s business partner had any objection to the Jackson Labs project, and if not, would he (Monahan), be willing to sell his interest in the land to Barron Collier thereby making the project independent of Ave Maria Development joint interests.

Concern about the morality of having a large genetic research facility so close to Ave Maria University and Town, Monahan is reported to have sought advice from the National Catholic Bioethics Center (NCBC) in Philadelphia, which ultimately advised him that they could see no moral impediment to the land transaction.

Engel goes on to describe the questionable postions of the NCBC on issues like abortion and brain death. She also provides a history of the Lab which is up to its neck in abortion/contraceptive/eugenic research. In the 1960s partnering with Johns Hopkins, the lab helped to develop amniocentesis for the search and destroy mission which has decimated Downs Syndrome children.

Ok. Let’s tally up the arguments against the donation of land to Jackson Labs by Barron Colliers Companies, partners with Thomas Monahan.

Clearly, Jackson Labs officials have deliberately withheld information from the general public and from Ave Maria leaders including Tom Monahan (sic), regarding the role of its founder/Director, C.C. Little, in the early eugenic, birth control, sterilization, racial, and euthanasia movements of the first half of the 20th century. Each of these movements was vigorously opposed by the Catholic Church.

Jackson Labs is a major promoter of eugenics and eugenic abortion.

Jackson Labs promotes and engages in human embryonic stem cell experimentation as well as contraceptive research in violation of the Natural Law and Church Law.

These objections alone should be enough to convince Barron Colliers Companies to scrap the project. If not, then Monahan (sic) along with pro-life state legislators, right-to-life leaders and residents in Florida, especially the students of Ave Maria University and resident of Ave Maria town, should force the issue.

In 1912, Father Thomas J. Gerrard speaking for the Catholic Social Guild, dubbed radical eugenics doctrines as “a complete return to the life of the beast. …Man is not an animal by nature; the table not a feeding trough, and the home not a biological experimental station,” Gerrard said, an obvious slap at the Cold Springs Harbor Experimental Station for the Study of Evolution where C.C. Little was later employed.

If Ave Maria allows the transfer of land for this evil organization, it is one more example of their trading Catholic values for money. After all, the lab offers potential employment for residents of Ave Maria town. But what kind of employment? If they do this thing, they will be directly implicated in cooperation with one of the most evil movements on the earth. Do your homework, Tom. I'm sure Randy would be happy to speak with you and President Healy.

Sunday, May 17, 2009, fifteen members of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society (CPLS) were arrested when they entered the parking lot of the Joyce Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame where the commencement took place. Twenty-five CPLS members actually entered the parking lot of the Joyce Center, carrying photographs of victims of abortion. Never Again? Dr. Mengele Lives On in the New Holocaust

Some people will be angry that I use the term "holocaust" referring to experimentation on human embryos. It demeans the "real" holocaust they will say to apply such a term to the little one in the womb or the pre-embryo in the petrie dish. But after reading an incredible article by Dr. Dianne Irving I won't shy from calling it what it is. So many bioethicists today find ways to rationalize every evil under the sun. They balance the "common good" against the life of little ones who "will die anyway." Read Dianne's powerful article and tremble for what our country has become. President Obama with his approval of embryonic stem cell research is setting us on the same path travelled before by mad scientists like Mengele (nicknamed the Angel of Death) who defend their atrocities with scientific terminology and in cultured voices. Packaging evil in nice wrappings may make it more attractive, but the stinking mess inside the box is the same.

As a biochemistry major at the end of my Junior year, I had already had some of my research published earlier, so my department head suggested that I could do something "different" for my senior thesis if I wanted - like medical ethics (bioethics didn't exist yet!). I thought about it, and remembered being touched by a small book we had read in a Junior year Chemistry Conference Course - courses each student was required to take in their major for their last two years in order to integrate their own special fields or "concentrations" with the other areas of knowledge. Junior year's course usually took the students through their academic field's long historical development, and in chemistry we had read a small book by J. Bronowski, a philosopher/scientist/journalist who wrote during and after World War II, especially about the Nazi medical experiments used to achieve eugenics which soon became the focus of the Nuremberg Trials. Stem Cell Research Approved - We're all Nazis Now.

Virginia State Delegate Bob Marshall sent me the following article about President Obama's approval of stem cell research which is the act of beginning new human lives so the little ones can be cannibalized for their stem cells. Why do the scientists want this? - for human experimentation, a crime against humanity. The Nuremberg war trials condemned men who experimented on humans. So -- not only are "we all socialists now," we are all Nazis as well. If Dr. Mengele were around today, Obama would no doubt name him Surgeon General.

Obama, Thomas Jefferson, and Stem Cell Research

Nowhere in any of the White House documents authorizing the moral travesty of experimentation on human embryos, does President Obama acknowledge that the research he wants to fund with tax monies involves the intentional death of newly created human beings.

Our 44th president, Barrack Obama, skips over this point of “creation.” His inaugural speech referred to the “God-given promise that all are equal.” But our 3rd President, Thomas Jefferson, said, “All men are created equal.” Is this distinction above Obama’s pay grade?

Failure to acknowledge a man’s creation means ignoring “inalienable rights endowed by our Creator.” How convenient!

Mr. Obama accuses human experimentation opponents of ideological bias and politics. Yet American taxpayers will be forced to fund lethal research which provides NO cures, therapies, or clinical benefits!

Until now, the FDA had never approved embryo stem cell therapy because it promotes tumors and growth of wrong organs. Adult stem cell therapy works and has no ethical controversies.

Nature Magazine reported last summer that Harvard scientists turned one type of adult cell directly into another type of adult cell which produces the specialized pancreative beta cells that secrete insulin. This new technique eliminates any scientific justification for using embryonic humans for research.

Apparently, Mr. Obama thinks he can improve the created order.

For three years (2005-2007) I chaired the Virginia General Assembly Stem Cell Study. Members served from all persuasions on the issue. We had extensive and thorough public hearings with experts in medical, research, scientific and ethical fields.

The Father of American embryo stem cell research, Dr. John Gearhart of John Hopkins University, told our Committee that transplanted embryo stem cells develop tumors and other problems. For these reasons, we unanimously concluded that Virginia should only support adult stem cell research. I believe Virginia is the only state which adopted its policy AFTER a thorough and impartial inquiry.

President Obama has crossed a moral fault line in the created universe. He should reflect that while God always forgives, and man sometimes forgives, Nature never forgives and is a stern taskmaster.
