Biking the Gettysburg Battlefield Reflecting on Choice

Larry and I spent the weekend in Gettysburg square dancing with our camping club. We never have much time on these weekends to see the sights so we stayed an extra day. This morning we biked the battlefield. As I rode around examining the monuments and reading the historical markers I thought of choice. The Kansas-Nebraska Act signed in 1854 was all about choice. Western territories had the "freedom to choose" by popular vote whether to be slave or free. In other words, Kansas-Nebraska, like Roe v. Wade was "pro-choice." Of course, Kansas Nebraska was passed by the Congress and Roe was imposed by the Supreme Court, but both sanctified the notion of the freedom to choose.

What Pope Francis and "Pro-Choicers" Have in Common

Throughout my years fighting abortion, I can't count the number of people who insisted, "I'm not pro-abortion; I'm pro-choice." That statement, of course, means absolutely nothing unless the choices are identified. I'm "pro-choice" too and so is God, when you come down to it. He is the ultimate pro-choicer since He gave us free will. But He gave it to us so we could freely choose THE GOOD. It is a miss-use of free will when one uses it to choose evil. That's why it's so essential to have an informed conscience.

Abortions Falling in Florida

Does this mean anything or does it just illustrate that Florida is a state that caters to old people whose childbearing years are over? In view of the fact that the number of pro-choicers is falling to a historic low, the news, in any case, is good. Pray to end abortion everywhere.

How come the docs have no "freedom to choose?" Aren't we all "pro-choice?" Oh, I forgot, that's a euphemism for abortion. Funny how the only "choices" liberals will let you have are the things they'd like to coerce you to do. So you have no freedom to choose schools (unless you pay twice), no freedom to condemn depravity, no freedom to defend religious liberty without being accused of violating the "separation of church and state," no freedom to allow smoking in your own establishment, no freedom to drive without a seatbelt, no freedom to know whether you're consuming genetically modified frankenfood, etc. Ever get the idea that "freedom to choose" is just a slogan of manipulation?
