Barron's Letter to a Suffering Church Falls Flat!

I finished reading Bishop Robert Barron's Letter to a Suffering Church last night at adoration. After reading a review, I ordered a copy thinking perhaps my husband and I would offer to purchase several hundred copies for our parish family.

Last night I changed my mind.

The book is short, only 100 pages of large, well-spaced print, hence, I suppose, its description as a "letter." The five chapters focus on the sex abuse crisis (The Devil's Masterpiece), Biblical teaching on sexuality (Light from Scripture), a concise history of some of the past bad times in the Church with bad clerics (We Have Been Here Before), a cogent argument for not leaving the Church (Why Should We Stay), and finally what comes next (The Way Forward) and a brief conclusion.

I was with Bishop Barron for the first four chapters and liked very much his emphasis on the Holy Eucharist, the primary reason we should never leave the Church. Where else can one receive Jesus - Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity -- to nourish both body and soul? Nowhere. No wonder Peter responded to Jesus' question whether he would leave saying, "Where can we go?...You have the words of eternal life."

"Put Respectful Pressure on the Leadership of the Church!" Overpower the Evil One with Good.

Get busy, Church Militant. Pray and work for the salvation of souls. We need transparency, an end to the chaos of confusion, and a renewal of hearts and minds. Love the truth, share the truth, and strive for holiness. It isn't hard -- cooperate with God's grace. He gives it to us freely if we just ask for it. Yes, life is hard. But love of God makes it, not only bearable, but a joy.

Vatican City State: The Sanctuary City for Criminal Clerics

How many sexual predators rest safely
under the Pope Francis sanctuary umbrella?
You remember when Cardinal Law fled the states as things got hotter over the sex abuse scandal. He ended up as pastor of a Church in Rome where he died in 2017. The Vatican welcomes many scandal-ridden clerics, so much so that William Kilpatrick wrote this recently:
Thanks to Pope Francis, the Vatican now joins the growing list of the world’s sanctuary cities. If you’re a clergyman wanted by civil authorities or Church authorities in your native land, the Vatican will offer you a safe haven and, quite possibly, a cushy job. (See Corruption in the Church)
Some of those under the Francis umbrella of safety are serial sex predators. But not to worry. We know that Francis really, Really, REALLY cares about the victims of sex abuse.

Cupich Holding a Meeting with his Priests Tonight.

BREAKING: Cardinal Cupich Invites All Chicago Area Priests to an "Open Discussion" This Evening at Mundelein Seminary (Must Have Printed Invitation to Enter)

What do you think? Will Cupich use this as an opportunity to identify the good priests he wants to deep six? Cupich has already shown what he's capable of by his persecution of Fr. Phillips and his promotion of all things "gay," like his shilling for homosexual propagandist James Martin.  He is as trustworthy as a snake. Let's pray there is a mongoose or two among his priests who are interested in protecting children! Cupich should go the same way as his buddies McCarrick and Wuerl who looks to be on the way out the door, please God! Farrell and Tobin next!

Will Pope Francis Accept Wuerl's Resignation (FINALLY)? Let's hope so!

Cardinal Wuerl sent a letter to his priests today talking about "discernment" and saying he's going to Rome to discuss the letter of resignation he presented to the pope three years ago. You can read the letter here. Let's pray this means Wuerl is about to leave the stage and go into retirement -- hopefully far, far away!

Fr. Benedict Groeschel's Order Calls for the Pope to Act

The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, the religious order of dearly beloved friar, Benedict Groeschel, released a letter yesterday to Apostolic Nuncio Christophe Pierre, calling on Pope Francis to institute an investigation into all the charges by Archbishop Vigano -- to either prove or disprove them. They also reiterated the need of bishops to ban from the seminary those with deep-seated homosexual tendencies or those who live or actively promote the gay lifestyle. Amen to that!

Mahony's Evil Chickens Finally Come Home to Roost

Archbishop Gomez relieves Cardinal Mahony of duties; Bishop Curry steps down

Mahony managed to escape his just deserts for a long time, but his evil has finally caught up with him. Let's pray that it causes soul-searching and repentance. Think of people like Chuck Coulson who found their true ministry in jail. A little jail time for Mahony would probably do his soul good. I know when I was in jail (for rescuing babies) it was an opportunity to reflect on what's really important. Well, I doubt if he'll spend a minute in jail, but let's pray the humiliation is a blessing. Fr. John Hardon always said that only humble people get into heaven and we become humble through humiliation. Let's pray for Cardinal Mahony.
