Will the Pope Listen? Stop Laughing!

We're in a mess and the bishops don't seem too eager to help get us out of it. Where are the U.S. bishops? Why isn't a single bishop on this list?

Priests and scholars call for withdrawal of Fiducia Supplicans.

  1. They're too busy counting Biden human trafficking cash?

  2. Why? Maybe keeping their job which trumps loyalty to Jesus' teaching.

  3. The pope can fire bishops which is not how the early church worked. That change allowed the pope to make the church his personal plaything and consolidate power to the point where the bishops cannot correct him because if they try he can unilaterally defrock them.

  4. Maybe none of them had the qualifications.

  5. Perhaps this FS document will be the thing that opens some people's eyes to what's going on in the Church just as the covid & transgender nonsense opened people's eyes to what's going on in education, medicine and government.

Perhaps the Pope and his compatriots have pushed too far. You'd think they'd long be past that already but many I think were satisfied with just ignoring it all. But this like the Bud Light fiasco in the secular world might just be the tipping point for the Catholics.

  6. It appears most of them got to the top by being "yes" men. With that on their CV they are unlikely to risk all -- as have only a few -- to defend the faith and their flocks. On the other hand we have to be aware that they know how ecclesial diplomacy works and some of them keep their heads down in order to fight the fight at a more opportune moment when the likelihood of success is better.
The next conclave is the moment when we will perceive accurately who is with Christ and who has turned their back on Him.
Patience obtains all things. The victory already belongs to Christ. I say this being the most impatient man I know.

  7. Mary Ann, should one of us sign in the name of CMC? If not, how about we both sign as authors of our respective blogs?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Since CMC is pretty inactive, I think signing as authors and Catholic bloggers makes more sense. I was actually praying today that if the Lord wanted me to sign someone would suggest it. You are the answer to that prayer, so, yes, let's send in our signatures.

  10. Not enough trivium. Nobody seems to accept the principles of natural law, or that there are higher laws than human laws such as canon law. Not even a real pope has the authority contravene the natural law. Many people expect some humans in the episcopacy to fix things when in fact a non-Catholic cannot legally hold papal office in the first place, not just by human law. They should really ask themselves what the Queen was warning about at Fatima and La Salette. We are living in those times, of a great apostasy at the top where Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of the Antichrist, and how shortly before this we would be confused as to who the true pope is.

  12. Re: FS

Like all red blooded American males I rarely read the instructions. Particularly for the pre-Christmas assembly of toys. After all that is what hammers are for.

However I broke down and read the FS documents in English on the Vatican website and 3-points stood out:

    1. Marriage is between a man and a woman.
    2. A blessing does not mean approval.
3: The blessing in question cannot be used in conjunction with a ceremony mimicking natural marriage.

It read IAW the Faith found as in Tradition, Holy Scripture and the Deposit of Faith.

  13. I read it too, Richard, and the problem is the document talks about blessing "couples" in grievously sinful situations because of their "couple"ness. That strongly implies approval of the situation regardless of the pro-forma embrace of orthodoxy. That is what this pope (and many clergy before him, e.g., Cardinal Joseph Bernardin) does. He pays lip service to the faith and then his actions say the complete opposite -- like honoring the Italian abortionist and bringing adherents of abortion, euthanasia, and assisted suicide to participate in Vatican events. The devil doesn't mind words of orthodoxy if immoral actions are encouraged and already we're seeing that all over the world with this disingenuous document. As my mom always said, "Actions speak louder than words." Look at who is chortling over this document. That tells you a lot!

    Re: Donatism

St Augustine fought against a North African heresy called Donatism which essentially said that the effectiveness of either giving or receiving a sacrament depended on the holiness of the participants. For instance a priest who had once apostatized under persecution could no longer validly give the sacraments nor could a former apostate validly receive said sacraments.

Two sodomites living together need God's grace. Perhaps in this day and age they need God's grace more than most.

Blessing does not constitute approval. FS is perfectly orthodox. However IMO it should have been accompanied by a strong condemnation of sodomy and an equally strong exhortation to avoid the reality of hell.

  15. A lot of clerics who presumably are well trained in moral theology and Church doctrine do not agree and think the document is scandalous. Here is what Cardinal Sarah said in his Christmas message:
The Declaration “Fiducia supplicans” writes that the blessing is instead intended for people who “ask that all that is true, good and humanly valuable in their lives and in their relationships be invested, healed and elevated by the presence of the Spirit Holy” (n. 31). But what is good, true and humanly valid in a homosexual relationship, defined by the Holy Scriptures and Tradition as a serious and “intrinsically disordered” depravity? How can such a writing correspond to the Book of Wisdom which states: “Troubled thoughts lead away from God, and Power, when tested, confounds fools.” No, Wisdom does not enter an evil soul, it does not dwell in a body dependent on sin. For the Holy Spirit, the teacher, flees deceit” (Wis 1:3-5). The only thing to ask of people who are in an unnatural relationship is to convert and conform to the Word of God.
There are hundreds if not thousands of such assessments of the document. You know I respect your opinion, but we will have to agree to disagree on this one. Individual blessings -- yes. "Couple blessings" for those living in immoral situations -- no!

Re: "A lot of clerics who presumably are well trained in moral theology and Church doctrine do not agree and think the document is scandalous".

But exactly how is it scandalous?

(1907). Blessing. In The Catholic Encyclopedia:

"In its widest acceptation this word has a variety of meanings in the sacred writings:

It has taken in a sense that is synonymous with praise; thus the Psalmist, "I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall be always in my mouth" (Ps. xxxiii, 1).
It is used to express a wish or desire that all good fortune, especially of a spiritual or supernatural kind, may go with the person or thing, as when David says: "Blessed art thou, and it shall be well with thee" (Ps. cxxvii, 2).
It signifies the sanctification or dedication of a, person or thing to some sacred purpose; "Christ took bread and blessed, and broke" (Matthew 26:26).
Finally it is employed to designate a gift so Naaman addresses Eliseus: "I beseech thee therefore take a blessing of thy servant" (2 Kings 6:15)."

FS is scandalous. But that is because it does not clearly condemn living in sin and warn against mortal sin and the reality of hell.

FS does not bless the sinful living arrangement; but the couple who may or may not be living in sin.

      It is otherwise perfectly orthodox.

      God bless

Cardinal Sarah does not condemn blessing a couple who may or may not believing in sin. Rather he condemns the "the confusion, lack of clarity and truth and the division have troubled and clouded the Christmas party this year."

Also as the blessing in itself is orthodox this may be bait to draw faithful Catholics into schism. See Admiral Ackbar.

  19. The fruits are here for anyone who wants to see them. Fr. Martin SJ was rebuked by the American bishops for his teaching on sodomy which contradicted Catholic Church teaching in his 2017 book "Building a Bridge" which caused many of his talks at Catholic venues in U.S. to be cancelled. To show his favor toward Martin's teaching and his disagreement with faithful U.S. bishops and to give Martin a worldwide platform to broadcast bad seed, Francis appointed Martin to Vatican's Dicastery for Communications in 2017. He has also showed him other marks of favor including inviting him to the synod on the synod.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_J._Martin_(priest)

James Martin was invited to speak to the Irish Bishop's Conference on Pope Francis' document Fiducia Supplicans. This is what he said: “My sense is that the document means what it says: priests can, under certain circumstances, bless same-sex couples. And we should note that this phrase is in the document: same-sex couples. So, it is not merely two people who happen to be standing together in front of a priest, but a COUPLE.”

He goes on to explain how a little bit of sin corrupts the entire church: "He said the document had overnight helped bring many LGBTQ people closer to the Church.

“While this may be a small group in terms of numbers, when you consider their mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles, as well as their friends, co-workers and allies, this is a much, much larger group. So Fiducia Supplicans is a unifying document in that it brings those from the outside in.”

    https://www.thetablet.co.uk/news/18278/fiducia-supplicans-is-unifying-document-says-fr-james-martin-sj

Upon the publication of FS, Martin immediately had a sodomite couple whom he's been 'pastoring' to hell for a long time to come before him in front of a New York Times (that publisher of anti catholic "lies," according to Bill Donohue/Catholic League propagandized Catholics) photographer to be blessed as a COUPLE.

  20. Catholics have seen the progression with communion for protestants first placed into the Canon Law by JPII in 1983: "§4 If there is a danger of death or if, in the judgement of the diocesan Bishop or of the Episcopal Conference, there is some other grave and pressing need, catholic ministers may lawfully administer these same sacraments to other christians not in full communion with the catholic Church, who cannot approach a minister of their own community and who spontaneously ask for them, provided that they demonstrate the catholic faith in respect of these sacraments and are properly disposed (in the state of grace)."
However, priests were giving communion to Nelson Mandela (and dogs) at that time and not being rebuked. Bill Clinton received communion. Then JPII gave holy communion to Tony Blair:

"On the evening of February 22 2003, Blair was given communion by the Pope's private secretary, Archbishop Dziwisz (now Cardinal of Krakow). Cardinal O'Connor persuaded the Vatican with the argument that 'here was a man who sent [his] children to Catholic schools and raised them as Catholics, whose wife is a practising Catholic, and who has attended Mass for many years'
    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2007/dec/22/labour.uk1

"On his visit to Rome, on 22nd February, in the context of his feverish manoeuvre in favor of the war in Iraq, Tony Blair assisted at the Mass celebrated by Pope John Paul II and received Holy Communion from his hand. If Mrs. Blair and their children – who accompanied him on the trip – are baptized Catholics, this is not the case for Her Gracious Majesty’s Prime Minister. The Secretary of State justified the Pope’s gesture, saying there was no Anglican church to which Mr. Blair could go in the Vatican…. However, there are in fact three Anglican churches in the centre of Rome....In Britain, it is permissible for a non-Roman Catholic in a mixed marriage to receive communion under guidelines set down in One Bread One Body, a 1998 Roman Catholic teaching document. But it states that, even in mixed marriages, "eucharistic sharing can only be exceptional." Circumstances for receiving communion might include the baptism or confirmation of the couple’s child."
    https://fsspx.news/en/news/pope-gives-communion-anglican-tony-blair-8834

Then B16 'spontaneously' gave communion to the Taize brother who attended JPII's funeral. However, apparently it wasn't the first time and JPII also (and who knows how many others JPII was giving 'holy communion"): "Was the Founder of Taizé Protestant, or Catholic? A Cardinal Solves the Riddle. Fr. Roger Schutz was both. He adhered to the Church of Rome while remaining a Calvinist pastor. Wojtyla and Ratzinger gave him communion. Cardinal Kasper explains how, and why" After his death – at the age of 90, killed on August 16, 2005 by a mentally deranged woman, during evening prayers and in the presence of 2,500 faithful – the community of Taizé dispelled the notion that he had secretly converted to Catholicism.

11.16.15 .Pope Francis has caused controversy by appearing to suggest that a Lutheran wife of a Catholic husband could receive holy Communion based on the fact that she is baptized and in accordance with her conscience.
    https://www.ncregister.com/blog/pope-tells-lutheran-to-talk-to-the-lord-about-receiving-the-eucharist

2.26.17. He gave several examples, including one from his home country Argentina, in whose remote northern region Anglicans and Catholics work together in a ministry to indigenous people. With few priests in either church, he said Anglicans and Catholics PREFER to go to each other’s services rather than miss a liturgy, and this was something the Vatican’s doctrinal watchdog, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) was aware of.

Seeing stadium masses/highway/city masses where 6 million are in attendance one should know what is the agenda of VCII and what 'sacraments' / 'mysteries' mean to them. "Around 6–7 million attended Francis' final Papal Mass at Luneta, surpassing the crowd at World Youth Day 1995 in the same venue and making it the largest papal crowd in history"
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visit_by_Pope_Francis_to_the_Philippines#

We see the fruit of the new mass, the non-sacrificing priesthood and religious life all around us. Sodomy being blessed in the church as 'marriage' is pretty obvious. But so is Bro. Schutz, Calvinist preaching predestination is a saint. Luther preaching married non-sacrificing priesthood along with divorce and bigamy a saint. Just like the reduction of catholic orphanages, schools, hospitals, seminaries, monasteries, parishes etc. etc. But many seem more inclined to trust in and defend men: JPII/Francis "the pope" rather than trust in God and defend the Faith.

    3. Mr. Comersford, as a protestant convert (I don't know from which denomination) you seem to exhibit two tendencies I have seen in other protestant converts: a hypersensitivity about papal teaching authority (either for or against) and a misunderstanding of the Eucharist (either think never worthy to receive/everyone is worthy to receive as in protestant churches/wouldn't lay down your life for a piece of bread/not sure what all the hoopla about the mass is about (and many post-Vatican
II trained Catholics are the same: they receive in shorts/bikini trample the host in the mud at WYD but dress up for Christmas/Confirmation)). I also don't know in what year you converted but rather think it must have been during 'good' JPII's reign (i.e. post Vatican II changes). In many instances, I don't think you have the slightest idea what pre-Vatican II trained Catholics are talking about or, if you do, think it's not important/incorrect (i.e. agree with post Vatican II changes). I abide by the teaching of St Paul, "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema." Galations 1:8 and Jesus words to St. Peter directly after he said to him on this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail (Matthew 16:18) when Peter took him aside to tell Him, He would not suffer and be put to death by the scribes, ancients and chief priests: Go behind me, Satan, thou art a scandal unto me: because thou savourest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men (Matthew 16:23). St. John also records that Jesus asked St. Peter three times, "do you love me?" and answered each of St. Peter's responses the same way: "Feed MY lambs/sheep." This refers directly back to John 10, where Jesus says: [1] Amen, amen I say to you: He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up another way, the same is a thief and a robber. [2] But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. [3] To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. [4] And when he hath let out his own sheep, he goeth before them: and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice. [5] But a stranger they follow not, but fly from him, because they know not the voice of strangers... [10] The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I am come that they may have life, and may have it more abundantly... [14]I am the good shepherd; and I know mine, and mine know me. [15] As the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father: and I lay down my life for my sheep.

I am Christ's sheep and I don't hear His voice in JPII or Francis or any of the post conciliar popes. I ask you to seriously consider that you will answer to Jesus Christ for your defense of priestly blessing for sodomite couples as an act in His name. As I read the Bible you will account for the priests' sins and the couples' sins and anyone you happen to persuade to engage in these sins by your written signed public defense of them.

      I am not a convert.

Have you actually read the FS Document? Three points.

      1. FS teaches that marriage is between a man and a woman - great teaching.
      2. FS also teaches a blessing is not approval and that is Catholicism 101
      3. FS further teaches that the blessing cannot be given in conjunction with an unnatural wedding ceremony - another great teaching.

Finally, to date, not one of the signatories to the letter attacking FS has been able to point to anything in the FS document is heretical.

    5. Mr. Comersford, I thought you'd said you were a convert. The document says everything you say that it does, but it concludes by inventing a new never, ever in the history of the church done before 'spontaneous' blessing of two people living in sin. The document reiterates Christ's teaching but never states the consequences to these people for their defiance of God's commandments--or to those who consent to their defiance. Francis says he prefers to think hell is empty--perhaps you do too. Francis is to preach the word of God in word and DEED/ACT. The DEED of blessing sin is the problem. You have your interpretation (as Francis knew you would and there's a majority out there just like you -- see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil -- and yet our world gets more like sodom everyday: 100 million babies have been murdered, there's more babies born out of wedlock than in wedlock, sodomite marriage and assisted suicide are the law of the land and now children are being taught in kindergarten by drag queens), but Francis' LGBT communicator Martin has a different interpretation. Do I believe your interpretation or do I believe Francis' own communicator's interpretation? You can hide behind the letter of the document and ignore the spirit--you have free will, but you will be judged on your decision and you and your children will have to live with the consequences here on earth.

  22. Pope Leo XIII composed the following prayer to Saint Michael, which is the original version:

“O Glorious Prince of the heavenly host, St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the battle and in the terrible warfare that we are waging against the principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against the evil spirits. Come to the aid of man, whom Almighty God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of Satan.

“Fight this day the battle of the Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in Heaven. That cruel, ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels. Behold, this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage. Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay and cast into eternal perdition souls destined for the crown of eternal glory. This wicked dragon pours out, as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.

“These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where the See of Holy Peter and the Chair of Truth has been set up as the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered.

“Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory. They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious power of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude. Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church. Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly find mercy in the sight of the Lord; and vanquishing the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations. Amen.
    V. Behold the Cross of the Lord; be scattered ye hostile powers.
    R. The Lion of the tribe of Judah has conquered, the root of David.
    V. Let Thy mercies be upon us, O Lord.
    R. As we have hoped in Thee.
    V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
    R. And let my cry come unto Thee.

    Let us pray.
O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as supplicants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin Immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious St. Michael the Archangel, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all the other unclean spirits who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of souls. Amen.”
