SSPX Files Appeal of July 2nd Decree

Below is the Society's press release of yesterday announcing their appeal of the July 2nd decree of excommunication and schism. This act indicates several important things. First of all, the Society recognizes the authority of Rome. If they didn't they would just walk away. The appeal of the decree shows a recognition of papal authority. The Society has never rejected the papacy; they reject the novelties and errors being introduced in violation of the Catholic faith. They stand with Eternal Rome!

Secondly, it also shows that the Society believes that papal authority can be misused to the point of violating Canon Law. Canon lawyers are disputing the decree and the explanatory note accompanying that expanded the decree in violation of canon law.

Thirdly, their action indicates love for the laity who are also being accused of being in schism and excommunication. Since the appeal has the effect of "suspending the execution of the decree" under the Code of Canon Law, it relieves any concern on the part of the lay faithful at least until the Vatican responds.

And now my opinion. I believe what this will do is show the Catholic world, or at least those paying attention, the Vatican's hobnailed boot approach to Sacred Tradition. It must be stamped out since it threatens the doctrinal novelties of the synodal church. I expect the Vatican to double down on the decree to justify their ecclesial bullying. Keep in mind that I do not speak for the Society and my opinion is just that, my opinion. But I believe what the Society is doing will continue to clarify and reveal the crisis in the Church and the absolute necessity of the faithful to keep the faith as taught in Scripture and Sacred Tradition, rejecting what does not correspond to the gospel:
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema.  Galatians 1:8
Let us all commit to praying for Pope Leo, Cardinal Fernandez, and all the magisterium. As the Blessed Mother exhorted Sr. Agnes at Akita
“Come out of the darkness! The Red Hats have fallen and the Purple Hat is being misled. Cardinal against cardinal, bishop against bishop! All that is rotten shall fall. Blood shall flow in the streets— revolution upon revolution! Do you not know—have you learned nothing from the past history of mankind—that the Father will chastise those He loves? Awaken! You have fallen asleep, Our pastors! You shall not follow as sheep to the slaughter those pastors who have given themselves to satan, those pastors who have sold themselves to the world of satan. Many will sell their souls to get to the head.”  Our Lady, Sept. 27, 1975
“I give fair warning, as your Mother, that the world has set itself upon a course for its own destruction. In My Son’s House it shall be bishop against bishop and cardinal against cardinal, for satan has set himself in their midst. It shall be mother against daughter, father against son. There shall be discord in the home as the family heads struggle to maintain the Faith.”       Our Lady, June 5, 1976

Press release of July 13, 2026

The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X informs that, in response to the decree published on July 2, 2026 by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, it filed a preliminary appeal on July 11 with the same Dicastery, in accordance with canons 1734 and following of the Code of Canon Law.

This step, which is the required prerequisite before the possible introduction of a
hierarchical appeal, has the effect of suspending the execution of the decree, in accordance with canon 1353 of the Code of Canon Law.

Through this appeal, the Fraternity intends to exercise the right that the Church recognizes for any person who considers themselves wronged by an administrative act to request its rectification, in a spirit of respect for ecclesiastical authority and faithful attachment to justice, truth and the good of the Church.

The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X places this request in the hands of the competent authorities and entrusts this process to the prayers of all the faithful.

  1. This is a chance for Leo to do some badly needed damage control. He would be a fool not to take advantage of it.

    1. I believe it was Anthony Stein who said early after Leo was elected, he will continue the Francis path. But have others do the work and he will keep out of the fray. I believe Fernandez will reject the appeal. Hardened hearts in the Vatican and they have a problem with the truth.
