Always Remember the Pro-Life Heroes Who Paved the Way!

My dear friend Jack Ames of Defend Life organizes a Maryland Face the Truth Tour every summer. It's a week of multiple stops each day using huge pro-life/abortion signs to expose communities to the truth about child-killing in the womb. Jack asked me to give a talk on the preliminary prep/training day about the early history of the pro-life movement. My qualifications? I'm old and started working in the pro-life movement in 1972 before Roe v. Wade. Some of the early heroes I'll be talking about directly impacted my own involvement in pro-life activism through their witness and inspiration. How much I thank God for all of them!

Confronting the Culture with the Truth about Abortion: Remember the Heroes for Life!

Every summer Defend Life of Baltimore, headed by pro-life hero Jack Ames, conducts what they call a "Face the Truth" tour in over a dozen locations in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. With giant signs revealing the horrifying truth about the murder of the innocent, they line major highways revealing the truth about abortion that government and media hide. It's all exposing the lie that abortion is like clipping a toenail or removing a tick.

Miscellaneous Meanderings from a Wandering Mind

My mind has been wandering all over the planet since I got up at 6:45 -- to Canada...to the Amazon rain forest...to Nashville and the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Wheeling...to Kazakhstan...Whew! I'm tired already.

Here are just a few miscellaneous meanderings from my wandering mind.

From Canada: We still have heroes among us and it's good to remember them when we are tempted to abandon hope. Remember, all discouragement comes from the devil. No matter how bleak things look, God is sending us prophets. One of them is Mary Wagner. Please pray for her and those whose lives she touches, both inside and outside of jail.

And, Ken sat up in bed this afternoon with the therapists...

Please Pray for Pro-Life Hero Ken Fisher

On February 10th, Ken Fisher, a stalwart pro-life leader in Southern California suffered a stroke resulting in one side being paralyzed and limited speech. Ken received the sacrament of the sick and is currently at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange receiving treatment. As a long-time Catholic activist, Ken has spent many hours to save unborn babies by sidewalk counseling outside abortion mills. Ken has also put pressure on the Knights of Columbus to follow their charter by disciplining pro-abortion members especially Catholic politicians committing grave scandal by their public support for the murder of unborn children while professing to be practicing Catholics.

For years, Ken has organized a public witness at the West Coast Religious Education Conference exposing the large number of pro-abortion speakers including clergy and religious who publicly dissent from the teachings of the Church. Despite persecution, Ken has courageously persevered in defending the faith and defending the innocent. Ken founded Concerned Roman Catholics of America which has a long record of working to restore the authentic Catholic faith in America. His organization is a member of the Catholic Media Coalition.

Please in charity pray for a full recovery of this staunch, pro-life Catholic hero so he can continue his important work for the Lord.

Linda Gibbons is Out of Jail in Canada, praise God!

If you don't know who Linda Gibbons is, you should. She's Canada's Joan Andrews squared. Linda has spent the last eight years in jail because she won't stay away from abortion mills where she warns women about the devastating consequences of killing their babies. Here's some background on this courageous white martyr. Chances are she won't be out of jail for long. Please pray for her and for those to whom she witnesses. How many will be saved from the fires of hell by her actions -- both those she meets and those for whom she suffers?

Dr. Mildred Jefferson Dies at 84

One of the bright lights of the pro-life movement died Friday. Dr. Mildred Jefferson, former head of National Right to Life, a pro-life physician, and ardent defender of the unborn served in so many ways. Feminists for Life ran an article honoring that reads in part:
Regarding her own career, Jefferson asserted, "I am at once a physician, a citizen, and a woman, and I am not willing to stand aside and allow this concept of expendable human lives to turn this great land of ours into just another exclusive reservation where only the perfect, the privileged, and the planned have the right to live."

Dr. Jefferson, who called the pro-life movement "second only to the abolitionist movement in the profound change it has brought about in American thinking," helped to found the National Right to Life Committee, which she served both as president and as a member of the board. She was a founding member, past president, and board member of the Value of Life Committee of Massachusetts and Massachusetts Citizens for Life, and headed the Right to Life Crusade.

Jefferson also encouraged pro-life college and university students to organize. "If I had my way," she said, "there would be a pro-life group on every college campus here in the United States and in its territories.... I hope that wherever you [students] have a department of women's studies or black studies that you will have a corresponding pro-life movement."
Please pray for the repose of the soul of this pro-life hero. I had the great blessing of meeting and having dinner with her years ago when Bishop Thomas Welsh invited pro-life leaders to an event honoring her. I was humbled in her presence. I'm reminded of what Henry Hyde once said:
When the time comes as it surely will, when we face that awesome moment, the final judgment, I've often thought, as Fulton Sheen wrote, that it is a terrible moment of loneliness. You have no advocates, you are there alone standing before God – and a terror will rip through your soul like nothing you can imagine. But I really think that those in the pro-life movement will not be alone. I think there will be a chorus of voices that have never been heard in this world but are heard beautifully and clearly in the next world – and they will plead for everyone who has been in this movement. They will say to God, 'Spare him because he loved us,' – and God will look at you and say not, 'Did you succeed?' but 'Did you try?'
Certainly Dr. Jefferson was not alone on Friday when she faced the Author of all life. She was surrounded by the little ones for whom she so eloquently spoke, and I have no doubt they spoke for her.
