We were down at our local car dealers this morning having some maintenance done on our gas-guzzling SUV (that pulls our camper and serves bus duty when our grandkids visit) and my husband asked if they were benefitting from the cash for clunkers program. The service department employee said yes. He went on to share a story about someone bringing in a loaded Cadillac (98 or 99): leather seats, great sound system, the works. It had fewer than 100,000 miles on it and was in great condition. He asked if they could salvage anything off the car. The answer was no. It made him sick, he said, to destroy a car in such good condition. The buyer bought a new Impala subsidized by the taxpayer.
And this is good for the economy? Anybody have a clunker Mercedes or Lincoln they want to trash? Obama has this great program to subsidize the rich. (Hey, isn't that the accusation always thrown at conservatives?)
