Ten Novels Every American Should Read to Understand the Culture Part 1

We all have our favorite books that we think everyone should read, both novels and non-fiction. I could probably name a hundred that I think need to be on your Don't Miss This! list.  Why? Because they help us understand what's going on in the world and how to respond to it. I'll start with only ten of my favorite books in a two-part post. Every one is worth reading more than once and reflected upon. Each has prophetic elements that strike the tocsin, the warning bell. We would do well to pay attention!

Who would ever think that so many people would happily enable our modern tyrants by eagerly supporting the "green pass" movement. Already, people, especially the vulnerable, are being deprived services all over the globe. France, Italy, Lithuania...hey...New York City are all requiring their residents to "show me your papers" in order to participate in normal life. Check it out! Many countries now require "COVID passports" in order to visit. No vax, no entry!

First grader sent to office for ‘misgendering’ fellow student

The poor little child called a boy in her class the name he went by in Kindergarten and was punished for it when he tattled to a teacher. Now we have a little boy suffering from gender confusion bullying a traumatized little girl who is punished because she didn't get the memo about his "transitioning ceremony" the week before. Get out the barf bags! This is all being generated by adults. That little boy had to be coached by his parents and teachers to run and tell if somebody dared to call him his old name. That's bullying, doncha know!

Artificial Wombs are Coming

One of the most chilling books ever written, in my opinion, is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. It has become even more chilling as its grim view of the future has moved from imagination into reality. In the brave new world, the two purposes of God's gift of sexuality are torn apart. Women never give birth, that happens in baby factories. The sex act is for pleasure alone and promiscuity, even orgies, are common. The culture offers entertainment with drugs (Soma) and virtual reality movies where the viewer experiences everything on the screen (feelies). Thinking about it reminds me of Sartre's novel Nauseau where living things all descend to one pulsing, unformed, nauseating blob

How far away is the brave new world? It's here. We are closer than ever to babies created in labs by scientists and raised in machines with no human interaction at all.

I used to look forward to the invention of artificial wombs. Babies growing in the falopian tubes could be saved. Tiny miscarried little ones would have a fighting chance. But now...how many immoral uses will this technology serve? It is more likely to further reduce life to the business of Dr. Frankenstein with his petrie dishes and test tubes helping "gays" have babies, perhaps cloned in the image of their parents. I feel nauseated to think of it.

Sometimes I think I've lived to long. My husband and I used to talk about the changes our grandparents  lived through - from the horse and buggy to the jet age. But they missed some of the worst realities. And now I think it is we who have seen the biggest changes from a time that revered the nuclear family to an age of almost unimaginable perversion.

Come, Lord Jesus.

I blogged on this back in June, but the information was limited then. Now it turns out these babies were born over a decade ago! Dr. Frankenstein was working in his lab behind closed doors and who knew this was going on? Who gave him permission to fool around with the human genetic code? Who knows what unintended consequences will result?

One thing's for sure. God will not look on man playing God with equanimity. Cloning next? For spare parts? And you thought the film The Island was fiction?

Meditation for Sunday: Make a Judgment

If you read my blog you know I linked to a post yesterday about Target promoting the gay agenda. I also posted the link on my Facebook page and it generated quite a discussion and the usual liberal criticism that no one has the right to judge other people's choices. However, in the course of the discussion those saying "Don't judge!" made numerous judgments. 

First judgment: "The link was filled with hate." (It wasn't. It called homosexual behavior depraved which is true and disease ridden - also true. Some of the comments were rude and profane, but the initial post was not hateful.) The second judgment was that no one can decide what "love" between any two people is. It is an "enigmatic emotion" different for everyone Actually, that is two judgments that contradict each other. I.e., no one knows what love is because it's different for everybody who loves, but nevertheless it is an "enigmatic emotion." Another judgment was that posting the link showed "prejudice." Now that is a critical and derogatory judgment. Further, when I posted about Muslim men having the right to rape their wives (Is that love?), I was also judged to have made a "racist" comment. So my non-judging critic judged me to be a prejudiced racist who is judgmental. Wow! What a judgment!

This is the problem with liberal argument. It is inherently illogical and self-contradictory. It begins with, "It's wrong to judge!" which is a judgment. It moves on to "You don't have the right to judge others," and immediately moves on to judging those to whom they have just denied the right to judge. Another judgement that is typical in liberal argument is their judgment that morality is completely individualist. However, the individual who is, dare I say, judged to have the wrong morality (i.e., traditional, Christian) is labeled with all kinds of, dare I say, judgmental terms like "homophobic, prejudiced, intolerant, racist, and ugly (well, in a manner of speaking). 

The entire Facebook conversation would have been amusing if it weren't so sadly illustrative of the mindless propaganda taught to young people raised in the public school system. John Dewey, the Father of modern education,
