Is Islam a Religion of Peace?

 

I've been receiving a number of comments from "unknown" who says he's a Muslim and claiming this:

Our religion commands us to love those who hate us and to do good to our enemies, but how do you want people to treat Muslims because of the 'truth' you tell about Islam? Do you even see Muslims as individual souls, the way God sees them, or as a monolith you fear even though as I pointed out in my comment you didn't publish, Jesus tells us constantly not to be afraid. He is with us always and He thirsts for souls. It's one thing to try to get the speck out of your brother's eye when you have a log in your own (and I'm sure I have one in mine or you would publish my comments), but what happens when you don't even think of the other person as a person you would even try to help but just take your big log and bash them to death?

On the Feast Day of St. Pius V Let Us Reform Our Lives!

In the old calendar, today is the feast of Pope St. Pius V, a courageous reformer. He put into Catholic practice many of the reforms of the Council of Trent. His holiness was obvious to the flock he served. An interesting bit of trivia relates to his impact on publishing and printing. He ordered that all books have the author and publisher announced on a title page. Prior to that many printers omitted the authors and their own responsibility for the book. Think of that the next time you look to see the publisher of a book and the date it was printed. I did that just yesterday with two books by Walker Percy to see which one was published first.

What will the pope say next?

Pope Leo says God doesn't listen to the prayers of those who "wage war." Really? History tells a different story. Pope Urban II and Pope Gregory X both called for crusades to take back the Holy Land from the Muslims. And then there is the significance of the Battle of Lepanto that saved Europe from Islam's advance. Had the West not "waged war" we would likely all be answering the Islamic call to prayer today. Yes, blessed are the peacemakers, but sometimes peace has to be won through war.

Two months out of the year are dedicated to Our Lady, May and October. Today is the Feast of the Holy Rosary in honor of the great defeat of the Muslims at Lepanto in 1571 when the Holy League defeated the invaders in a terrific sea battle. That decisive battle saved Western civilization and drove the Turks out of the Mediterranean for years.

What a great day to reflect on the power of the rosary to win decisive battles like the victory at Lepanto in 1571. God raised up a crusader, Don Juan of Austria, to defeat the Islamic navy through the sign of the cross. Look closely at the sails and see the standard of Christianity, the cross, vs. the standard of Islam, the crescent. Chesterton, in his famous poem on the battle, depicts the crescent as the devilish smile on the face of Selim II as he calls on demonic spirits to give his forces the victory. 

This next painting shows the miraculous vision of Pope St. Pius V when Our Lady appeared and let him know the Holy League secured the victory. 

Let Us Imitate Don John of Austria as We War Against the Modernist Church Destroyers!

On the Feast of the Holy Rosary, remember the Battle of Lepanto that saved Christendom in the 16th century from the assault of the Turks intent on turning Europe Muslim. We need a Don John of Austria again to lead us into battle against the modernists intent upon destroying Christendom from within. 

Chris Check gives me goosebumps when he recites Chesterton's poem by memory. It is an acknowledged poetic masterpiece. Pray in thanksgiving for Chesterton, the apostle of common sense. Will we see his like again? We can pray for it.

Use Advent to Do Prayer and Penance to Prepare for Battle!

Let us all pray that 2019 is a year of faith and action -- when serious Catholic laity pick up the standard of Christ dropped and abandoned on the battlefield by complicit clergy. We cannot take the place of the shepherds called by God to defend the faith: to teach, govern, and sanctify; but we can boldly defend the faith, hold our ground and prepare the advance for the good shepherds. May we commit ourselves this advent to pray and fast like the Holy League facing the Turks at Lepanto in preparation for the great battle.

Today we have a growing pretense promoted by many clerics in the Church that Islam is no threat to Christianity and we should welcome hordes Islamic immigrants with open arms. Islam is evil. Europe is dying because they are overrun. Sweden and other European nations have an increasing numbers of "no-go zones" (or "semi-autonomous sectors") where police leave the non-Islamic citizens, especially women, at the mercy of Islamic gang violence. Can you imagine your 11-year-old daughter being kidnapped by an Islamic child-stealing ring and the police refusing to do a thing about it? That's what is happening in Europe and we are likely to see it here as the Muslim invasion continues aided and abetted by the Catholic bishops who get millions from the government for "resettling refugees." When the 9/11 attacks occurred, my husband and I still lived in Alexandria. The Pentagon attack hit close to home -- fewer than ten miles away. And Larry worked there for years before taking a job at Quantico in Fredericksburg. He could have been among the casualties. 

We talked occasionally about where we wanted to retire, but, the truth is we are slow movers, especially my husband whose family lived for several generations in one place. I expected we would stay in Alexandria forever. 

It's Not Immigration; It's Muslim Invasion!

People need to study history. Catholics particularly need to understand why the Crusades took place -- because the Islamic Turks were invading Europe and threatening to eliminate Christianity in favor of the Islamic caliphate.

Sometimes truth is more interesting than fiction. The Battle of Lepanto is one of those epic stories. If you want to understand ISIS today, read this article about Lepanto. Here's just one paragraph to show that the monstrous behavior of Islam today is nothing new:

In the spring of 1570, the 4th Ottoman-Venetian war began when the Muslim Turks attacked Cyprus with 70,000 men. The Venetians appealed to Pope Pius V to come to their defense.The Christian defenders of Cyprus were outnumbered by a margin of almost 7 to 1. The city of Nicosia held for nearly two months but, having been reduced to 500 soldiers, surrendered.

Remember Lepanto on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Why do we celebrate the Holy Cross? In ancient Rome, the cross was a symbol of shame, the instrument of capital punishment. It would be like our celebrating the exaltation of the electric chair. It sounds crazy when you think of it in that way, doesn't it? And yet, the instrument of torture and death, becomes for the Christian the reminder that Christ not only overcame death, but, in doing so, glorified the very instrument used to kill Him. Cardinal Jean Danielou, theologian and historian, reminds us of the reality of the cross we carry. It is a "feeling of being torn asunder...this inability of our heart to carry within itself simultaneously love of the most holy Trinity and love of a world alienated from the Trinity" which is "precisely the death agony" of Jesus, "an agony he calls on us to share." Yes, we are called to love a world that hates God.

This week brings specific reminders of that agonizing conflict as we reflect on the vicious hatred that resulted in the 9/11/2011 atrocity and Wednesday's murderous attack on embassies in Libya and Egypt. How does the Christian react to such evil?

Pray the rosary on October 7th, the Feast of the Holy Rosary

Tomorrow is the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, a great day to pray the rosary for the upcoming election - that God's will be done, that our country be preserved from destruction, that unborn children and other vulnerable individuals may be protected, and above all that we might be a people united under the banner of Christ the King.
