Sheen's subject was patriotism, meaning "love of God, love of neighbor, love of country." He goes on to discuss the "problem of revolution" and asks, "What kind of a revolution should we have? We started with a revolution "to govern ourselves" (following the philosophy of Jefferson). What, he asks, is the revolution of today? Violence! "Just for the sake of violence." ..."The new kind of revolt that involves destruction of everything in the past." And then he connects that revolt to the French revolution (under the philosophy of St. Just) that did everything in its power to stamp out God by trying to stamp out the Church and any vestige of religion.Sheen puts it succinctly: "Those governments in the world that deny the existence of God are those that deny the existence of human rights."
And that's what we're seeing today -- organizations and politicians who either deny God altogether or have replaced Him with a god made in their own image and likeness whose name is Lust, Murder, and Violence.
Fulton Sheen speaks in this video with the clear voice of a prophet. "Our country today has to choose once more between Jefferson and St. Just.
