Wow! Two Thumbs Up for Brit Hume!

I'd like to know this man better. His son committed suicide in 1998 and after that life-changing event he turned his life over to Christ. He spoke to The Blaze about it in 2012:

Hume told Brody that, throughout his adult life, he gave very little thought to God and his faith. But the untimely death of his son caused that to change radically. Looking back on the painful period in his life, the Fox News analyst said that he quickly realized that many of the events that happened could only be explained as being God-ordained.

“When my son died in 1998, you know, when something shattering like that happens, I think it’s likely to be moment or can well be a moment where you find out what you really believe, and as horrible as that was, and it was bad, and it was heartbreaking and it was unexpected and it was very painful, I had the feeling through it all, that God was there,” he told Brody. “That He would rescue me from grief and pain, and that, I would get through it, and I knew I believed, and I knew it with enormous force.”

Pray for Brit Hume and for his son, Sandy. At Fatima Mary said many sinners go to hell because they have no one to pray for them. Let us lift up Sandy and pray he repented in the seconds between firing the gun and dying. Mary, refuge of sinners, pray for him.

Salvation starts with acknowledging ourselves, our potential to be truly wicked. Be honest. Examine your conscience sincerely. How would you answer the questions in the video. Would you be willing to steal or murder if you knew for sure you would never get caught?

Imagine the change in the world if every Catholic on the planet became that "burning furnace" and, with St. Paul, heaped burning coals of love on our enemies. A world on fire with love of God that ignites a bonfire of charity...What an exciting thing to imagine!

A Miracle Story for Sunday: Son of Martyred Missionary Builds "Flying Car"

Steve Saint's dad, Nate, and some brother missionaries were killed in the wilds of Ecuador in 1956 by a tribe of natives they were trying to befriend. Steve's aunt continued the missionary work and Steve lived there from the age of five until he left to go to college in the United States. Later, the  Waodani asked him to return and he did with his wife and teenage children. Steve saw the need for a vehicle that could access remote parts of the country that were inaccesible by traditional transportation. He hopes to sell the flying car on the commercial market in order to finance its main use, "to access places where there are no doctors, there are no nurses, there's no hospital."  The Waodani call Steve's car the "wood-bee thing" and want to learn to fly so they can help their own people. It isn't too early to start thinking about Advent. And a coalition of Church groups in the U.K. has put the focus right where it belongs -- on baby Jesus in the womb.

Condemning the Generous

I'm not into reality shows, but I recently read about a couple who's in one, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar. They live debt free in a house they built, but that's not enough for the "tolerant" of the world because this couple has committed the unforgivable crime: they have "too many" children. Michelle Duggar gave birth to their 19th child last winter when little Josie was born prematurely by C-section. You can also read the vitriolic comments from "liberals" whose liberality does not extend to being open to life and welcoming children with open arms. They call the Duggars "selfish." These are the same folks who celebrate the murder of little "unwanted" babes in the womb. They remind me of the mother in the Solomon story who wants the living baby killed. Their name is Legion.

The Bible and the tradition of the Church teaches us differently. A child, the Bible says, is like an arrow in the quiver. Blest is the man who has a quiverful. Many saints learned the gospel in the school of the large family. St. Catherine of Siena, I believe, was the 21st.  God bless the Duggars! May their positive attitude toward children spread. And may we all be open to God's will: the parents of many children, the parents of few, the parents who  mourn like Hannah because they have none. Conforming our hearts and minds to the Lord is the key to happiness. My prayer for the Duggars is that they find the fullness of the faith in the Catholic Church. Imagine all these young ones spreading the Eucharist far and wide.

Facing the Giants of Fear in Your Life

Last night my husband and I watched the film, Facing the Giants. This overtly Christian movie was written, directed, and produced by members of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany Georgia. Giants was their second film. The third was Fireproof which showed in 800 theatres nationwide and spurred a New York Times bestselling book. Giants tells the story of an underdog high school football team and their coach who through trust in God, hard work, and dedication become winners both on and off the field. In a cameo appearance University of Georgia coach Mark Richt stresses the Christian message of the film - that it isn't worldly goals that make us winners, but commitment to Jesus Christ.

That this moving film was made through the movie ministry of a Christian church is amazing. Fireproof was the leading independent film of 2008 so this little group of believers are showing that David really can stand up to the Goliaths in Hollywood. This film reminds me of one of my favorites - Rudy, about a young man who is determined to make the Notre Dame football team despite his small stature. The same determination that, in real life, inspired Rudy Ruettiger is visible in this inspiring movie. I plan to buy it for my own little football player, a ten-year-old grandson. I only wish he had a coach like the fictional Grant Taylor.
