Sunday Meditation: "My People Shall Not Be Confounded Forever." Joel 2:27

There's a saying often attributed to Abraham Lincoln that echoes the prophet Joel. It goes something like this:

You can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

It's tie to never be confounded and fooled again by liars and deceivers working for the enemy. Some people become deceivers out of ignorance. We saw a lot of that during COVID. Low information folks trying to convince those of us doing the research that all the scientists and doctors questioning Fauci et al were quacks and we needed to get with the program. Most of them were just foolish not malicious. But others among the doctors, pharmacists, those profiteering, the mainstream media, etc. were not innocent. They deliberately lied and withheld the truth. And many people died because of it.

We need to put our trust only in those who are trustworthy. With regard to the faith, I believe Archbishop Lefebvre to be one of those trustworthy clerics trying to protect the flock from the deceivers who have infiltrated the Vatican.

I've been reading Archbishop Lefebvre's book, Open Letter to Confused Catholics which, although published in 1986, is still just as relevant today. Want to be less confused? Read the book. You can download it for free. Click on the linked title.

The chapter on Ecumenism is especially eye-opening and an on-going challenge. Think of Assisi and Abu Dhabi with popes encouraging indifferentism and syncretism, the belief that all religions are equal and paths to heaven. They aren't!

With ecumenism, there's no need to embrace Jesus' great mission, to convert the whole world. Just leave all those good Muslims and Jews and Buddhists and Hindus and New Agers and Satanists alone. They have their religions and they are all on their own paths. Where those paths lead is the question. But don't warn them; that's proselytism!

The world is a place of chaos and confusion. Should we be surprised? The prince of this world blows sulphurous smoke everywhere, even in the Church. How many of our bishops and priests work for him either maliciously or out of ignorance and wanting to be thoroughly modern Millies? The desire for human respect leads many astray!

Jesus told us we would know people by their fruits and many fruit trees here in the U.S. and around the world, even those in the Church garden, bear a poisoned harvest. Put the witch in Snow White in clerical garb and you'll get the picture.

If you don't want to be "confounded forever," study the faith as taught by the apostles, the Fathers of the Church, the saints and the pre-Vatican II popes. Embrace tradition and recognize that some things are unchanging. The pope has no authority to change doctrine! He has no authority to approve of giving Communion those living in adultery. It's not possible.

Let us all pray for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and for all His gifts that we might be able to know, love, and serve God and be a source of truth for everyone we meet.

  1. There are many paths to error, but only one path that leads to Truth.

“13 Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy,[a] that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” (Matt 7:13,14 - the Words of Our Lord)

There is only one correct answer to 2+2 = ? … while there are an *infinite* number of wrong answers.

Truth is singular and unchanging - which is why the Body of Christ, established by the Second Person of the Trinity - Jesus Christ, Incarnate Word - is established in time and eternity to protect and deliver that Truth to creation forever. Sacred Tradition, within the Deposit of Faith, is the Pearl of Great Price. Its possession and protection is non-negotiable.

  3. Mary Ann,
I enthusiastically agree with your recommendation. A Letter to Confused Catholics is Archbishop Lefebvre's testament. In my view, the most chilling part of this book is its account of the intrigue at the Council regarding the rejection of the 72 schema.

A Letter to Confused Catholics is next to The Gulag Archipelago on my bookshelf.
