The Elephant in the Chancery

I read an article yesterday that challenged the bishops of Michigan about their recent letter, Pastoral Note to Migrants, outlining their immigration position. The author, Kevin Kijewski, a Catholic lawyer, is running for Attorney General in the state. The article is a must read! It hits all the important points and raises questions many Catholics have about the prudence and motivation behind bishops approving the illegal invasion.

A Catholic Lawyer Responds to the Bishops About Mass Immigration

The article could have been addressed to all the bishops of the country most of whom are on the immigration bandwagon virtue signaling to the great unwashed who are all guilty of failing to welcome the stranger. They, on the other hand are filled with love, empathy, compassion, etc. for the millions who have broken our laws to enter illegally.

The first point Kijewsik makes is the elephant in the chancery which the bishops ignore: the fact that everyone who enters the country illegally has violated immigration law which is a crime! He goes on to cite the catechism and St. Thomas Aquinas' position on immigration which the bishops pretty much ignore. He also discusses the pretense that Catholic Charities is actually a charity since most of its funding comes from the government and is forced under duress from taxpayers. That is not charity!
Figures range from the $100 million cited by Vice President Vance in a CBS interview to the nearly $2.9 billion received by Catholic nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) over the past four years. Bishop Strickland also noted that two-thirds of Catholic Charities’ spending is from government sources—that is, not donated voluntarily.

The bishops' immigration policy is incoherent and unjust. While we ignore homeless vets on the street, illegal invaders receive all kinds of government benefits to which they are not entitled, not to mention the abuse to American citizens living in border states whose hospitals, schools, and other services have been totally overwhelmed.

Here' is just a bit from the article:

When some newcomers seek to subvert the existing legal system by substituting Sharia or by illegally voting in a presidential election, how is it not reprehensible? Adding insult to injury, Catholic Charities supports “crucial care” funding that includes free chartered flights into the country for so-called asylum seekers—people who may never have thought to enter the United States without such services. Bishop Emeritus Joseph Strickland pointed out that 80 percent of immigrants would not qualify for asylum or refugee status. Even worse, Catholic Charities’ free legal advice includes instruction on how to remain silent when questioned by immigration authorities. Is this honorable?
The Catholic bishops' in the U.S. have lost all credibility on this issue. Are they motivated by money? It certainly seems so. While they lock their own doors and have no trespassing signs in their chancery parking lots, they expect American taxpayers to foot the bill to keep their bogus "charities" running. I wouldn't give a nickle to Catholic Charities or to the bishop. Our charity dollars go to Catholic organizations and pro-life groups. We all have an obligation to give alms, but we don't have any obligation to enable the crime of illegally invading a country not your own.

Read the article. See if you are as disgusted as I am.

  1. The Catechism says this:

    - quote -

“The Seventh Commandment is "Thou shalt not steal."

This commandment forbids all unjust taking or keeping of what belongs to another, as well as any other way of wronging our neighbor in his property. It commands us to respect the property of others, to give fair wages to laborers, and to observe justice in all matters concerning what belongs to others … and …
Additionally, the commandment emphasizes the obligation to restore any ill-gotten goods and to repair any damage unjustly caused to another's property“.

    - end quote -

Entering another country illegally, breaking laws ti enter and remain, taking jobs that could have gone to legal citizens at higher wages - it’s all comprehensive violations of the seventh commandment, and therefor fundamentally unjust and must not be believed or obeyed.

The proof that this is so is that the Bishops would never apply their advocacy to themselves. If large numbers of homeless persons decided to break into the Bishop’s house, and end their homeless poverty thereby, the Bishop would call the police - assuming a homeless person could get past locked doors, windows, surveillance and security systems. The Bishop’s logic should smile warmly at homeless and the poor taking everything that used to belong to the Bishop and his Diocese for their own various purposes - displacing him and inserting themselves… “come and take it all”!

Private property is a Commandment of God and violation of it is not up to the discretion of the Apostles. It is not good for ourselves or the migrant to facilitate their sins and illegal choices. It is harmful to everyone involved.

    1. Commenter above is Aqua

I don’t like publishing anonymously - even though it’s just a screen name, I’ve always used it and I think it helps to know who is speaking - but if I forget to log in it defaults to anonymous.

  2. To the person who wrote a book-length comment, that's why I didn't publish it. And yes, I read the letter. As the commenter above wrote, the bishops would never apply their immigration policy to their own property. The hypocrisy is staggering. And in view of the violence and doxing of ICE agents (not to mention threats and assassination attempts) I think masking is justified. ICE agents don't have secret service protection for themselves and their families.

    1. Injustice and sin always leads to violence and discord. Illegal immigration facilitates both - the fruit of the unjust sinful tree.

Charity, Godly Charity, is always voluntary and from the heart, just as is our personal salvation. God never compels right choices, aka righteousness. Satan does compel his will, or tries to, lacking full power - he compels (to the extent he can) injustice and sin.

And so Charity begins in the Bishops personal residence and personal life. We Catholics imitate this godliness to the extent prudence directs and limits. And then a nation’s laws encode this Charity in law - again, in accord with prudence.

Unrestrained illegal immigration and concurrent compelled charity to those unjustly living now among us? Dissolution of national borders and social fabric? Lawless. Anarchy. Satanic, not Godly. There is nothing in Scripture and indeed all Sacred Traditon to support it.

    2. Do you have any proof of the violence and doxing of ICE agents? This is the first administration under which this has been done and it is only the federal department of homeland security that is masking and not wearing badges/identification.

This article states that reporters have asked DHS for proof of their claims of a rise in assaults/threats and rec'd no reply. Democratic officials have asked questions and are threatened with arrest:

"After a variety of Democratic officials made the case that ICE agents should stop shielding their faces, Tom Homan, the Republican administration’s “border czar,” told Fox News he’s asking the Justice Department to investigate the Democrats’ statements in order to “see if there is something we can do.”

In other words, as Homan saw it, merely commenting in support of transparency might somehow have crossed legal lines, warranting DOJ scrutiny.

I notice you say nothing about a man being detained at church by these masked officers who then refuse to tell his family and his lawyer where they have taken him. You don't publish my comments when they make your view/arguments look bad. "Who then shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation? or distress? or famine? or nakedness? or danger? or persecution? or the sword? (As it is written: For thy sake we are put to death all the day long. We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.) But in all these things we overcome, because of him that hath loved us. For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor might, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

And when the young man had heard this word, he went away sad: for he had great possessions. Then Jesus said to his disciples: Amen, I say to you, that a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

  3. I haven't given to Catholic Charity in decades. It's been so long I forget what my original reason was but over the years they've continually proved my decision not to give to them to be correct.

These days I'm less inclined to give to "institutionalized " Catholic charities be it a religious order or a issue-driven organization even if it's a good one. Look at their financials. Some are nowhere hurting for money. They don't need my $25.

    1. Ditto here! When I read the dictator pope they said that money from Peters Pence was used for the Hillary Clinton for president campaign in 2016 because she was an important piece for the one world order. When Trump won Francis ran a temper tantrum (which I loved immensely). Now they operate under the umbrella of "unity" that will not happen until they clean up their act, something I will never see in my lifetime. I went one step farther on my website I ask people not to contribute to anything connected with the Vatican or local diocese. All they understand is money.

    2. We are contributing to our SSPX Chapel and separately to its building fund - our Chapel in Dallas area is growing incredibly fast; they have really cool plans and are approved to build a dedicated Chapel, a Priory (more Priests and Nuns), School and additional grounds to expand.

We are also, importantly, now spiritually and logistically connected to the Carmelite Monastery of the Most Holy Trinity, who recently transferred their spiritual connection from the Fort Worth Diocese to the Society of St Pius X. You may have heard of some of the controversy that led to this transfer in Charity of the Carmelite Nuns to the Society. And so we financially and personally contribute to them too.

What was the founding motto of Arbp LeFebvre’s Society? “Omnia instaurare in Christo” - “To restore all things in Christ”. The “restoration” is proceeding well.

  4. Great article calling a spade a spade. I posted this in the pub seeing Lady Snow lives in Detroit. The seamless garment has always got my blood to boil. They love to equate protecting your boarders for the good of the citizenry to murdering the unborn. Its like comparing apples and oranges. I live in Rockford diocese right next to Chicago and King Cupich. When Cupich first came to Chicago he had a welcome dinner with Rahm Emanual. They had a picture of the two laughing, Emanual with that synister evil laugh and Cupich with that Mom's Mabley toothless cackle. That is the key. The vast majority of the hierarchy in this country are not only Democrats but so left it boarders on socialism. Of course they want to brow beat people into allowing immigrants, illegal and otherwise into this nation. That is a huge part of the Democrat voting base and the Democrats are the ones who gave all those goodies to Catholic charities.
