My friend Dexter Duggan who writes for The Wanderer has an excellent piece on his substack site relating to the attack on Iran.
Another Undeclared War Drops on Our Doorstep
The president does not have the authority to make war on other countries. To declare war takes an act of Congress. Was there such an act before Trump authorized dropping bombs on Iran. How is that not an act of war? The authority under Article 1 Section 8 is contested as this article shows. It is often loosely interpreted. Other presidents have initiated military action without specific authorization from Congress. Even so, to drop bombs on another sovereign nation is an obvious act of war. And what will be the unintended consequences falling on us like radioactive particles from a nuclear weapon?
The Middle East is a black hole and has been for decades. When has our meddling ever improved things?
Terrorism is a reality in today's world. What plots for terrorist acts are being discussed now in Iran or, not discussed, but dreamed up by individuals as acts of revenge? -- individuals who attend mosques in the United States. Forest fires are easy to start. We've all seen the acts of snipers and suicide bombers. How many radical imams are saying to their followers, "You too can be a martyr for Allah by attacking the Great Satan!"?
Following the attack on Iran Homeland Security issued a "heightened threat environment." [Source] Should that surprise anyone? Actions have consequences.
Here's a bit from Dexter's article:
Terrorists remember, and they can wait. When they failed in February 1993, they didn’t try again in May. Not that year, and not, say, three years later. There was 2001 yet to come. And it didn’t require the same group getting together again.
If all it takes is a bomb, other terrorists can do that. And they needn’t operate under a central command. Too much trouble to build a bomb? How about hijacking one already built, with jet engines, passenger seats and wings on it? How about hijacking four of them? Too complex to succeed in 2001? We know better now....
Donald Trump and his cabinet members, advisers, the military members who carried out the plans, even the entire staff of the Pentagon, may be all very well protected, but they’re only a very small fraction of the population of the United States, even less so of the entire Western world. However, it seems likely we’re all potentially more so in the crosshairs of terrorists now. To leave a gaping wound, they don’t have to hit a U.S. military base in the Mideast. How about any lightly or undefended but crowded civilian target in any big city on either side of the Atlantic Ocean? For how long would this be our future?
The Bible talks about war and rumors of war and advises us not to be troubled, that the end is not imminent. But we need to respond. What should our response be? More prayer, more sacrifice, and especially the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the rosary. "Pray the rosary for peace," Mary told us at Fatima.
My husband and I pray the rosary every day for our family. Today I want to pray a second rosary especially for peace. Please join us.
Actually, I heard on the radio this morning that Congress has only declared war 5 times but presidents have rather done so on their own about 30 times. What the present Commander in Chief has done is not something new. This does not mean I agree with it.
ReplyDeleteActually I have to strongly disagree with this. Trump said from the start that he would not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. He has 3 strategic strikes against nuclear weapons facilities. I could be wrong but I do not see troops being committed. Think of the alternative Trump does nothing and Iran develops atomic weapons. Muslims are fanatics they will not be afraid to use them. As far as Trump being "told" to enter a war its actually laughable. When was the last time anyone told Trump to do anything? More likely he is using Israel as an excuse for the bombing. Ann Barnhardt blathers on about this all the time. I think the poor women suffers from TDS. Her memes are no longer funny its been reduced to a series of Trump bashing. But then again that is what TDS does. Personally I am not concerned that this will go any farther, of course, in this world who knows. God decides what happens and this was all decided long before any of us were born.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with Al Schroeder's comment above.
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last time anyone told Trump to do something? Try Operation Warp Speed, for one.
ReplyDeleteOperation warp speed was indeed HIS discussion, all be it under bad advice but his decision.
DeleteAs Chesterton said, “The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult; and left untried.” Have you said a rosary for peace yet today? Many miracles come about through devotion to Mary's peace plan. Here's a website with some of her miracles. Does anyone really believe that bombs will save us? https://catholicstand.com/miracles-wrought-by-the-rosary/

ReplyDelete1980’ all over again…….Carter, George H. Bush, Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden, Trump………. the debt keeps rising and the bombs keep dropping.
Prince of Peace, bring true peace to persons, families, and nations everywhere!
Once again we see the gift Donald Trump is to us and really, the world. Because of his intelligence and leadership, the world is safer tonight. Not from terrorism, those people are still everywhere, but from an Iranian nuclear weapon that was just a matter of time. God of has been merciful and allowed that cup to pass. Previous presidents have done the same thing Teunp did, its in the purview of the office, there are numerous precedents. Joe Biden (actually not him) ordered American weapons to be used against Russia in Ukraine, so we have short memories. It has been done in Syria, Afghanistan and other places. My God, can we stop accepting liberal talking points and let the man work! Hes a man of strength and peace. Now a truce comes. The Nobel Peace Prize means nothing if he doesnt get it. Pakistan nominated him! We're watching history unfold and he's one for the ages. Thank you Lord, God bless and keep him.
ReplyDeleteOur Lady of Fatima pray for us Catholics, for we are living in diabolical disorientation!

ReplyDeleteIsrael’s conflict with Iran, alongside ongoing fronts in Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria, is placing immense financial strain on the nation and sending economic ripples worldwide. Israel is spending nearly $725 million daily in its operations against Iran alone. The wider cost of the Gaza conflict has already exceeded $66 billion. With oil prices climbing and global shipping and air routes disrupted, the financial impact now extends far beyond the battlefield. This report analyses the mounting economic toll of Israel’s wars—both for the country and for the international community.
Just a reminder. I will not post dissertation length comments even when I agree with them. It's probably best to focus on a single point. And multiple links will get you put in the spam folder as well since I don't have time to check them all out. Please be considerate in the comment section and keep your comments short and to the point.
ReplyDeleteThe Islamic regime of Iran (installed and funded by Western foreigners and Soviets) has to be stopped and both the United States and Israel are completely right doing so. All of this Islamic extremism is something that was ultimately brought to the forefront by the West and so, the West has to fix it.
ReplyDeleteWestern interests would be better served in taking the fight to the terrorists. Islamic terrorists are provided for by the Iranian Islamic regime - the "Axis of Resistance" cannot function if you obliterate the regime, if you cut the head off the snake. Without the Islamic ayatollah regime, the terrorists cannot get funding, weapons, training and foreign secrets (the regime is the intermediary between the Western traitors and the terrorists) to attack the West with.
This is who you people voted for!
ReplyDeleteChaos every day to cover for REAL crimes.
You have a short memory. BLM/Antifa riots and looting, open border chaos letting in terrorists, the drug cartels and child traffickers, the fentanyl deaths, Occupy Wall Street. I could go on. This is what Obama and Biden gave us. And if you want to talk about those who "cover for REAL crimes" look no further than Joe and his pardon for his criminal son Hunter, not to mention Bill and Hillary Clinton. Their scandals from Whitewater to Benghazi to Bill's rape of Juanita Broderick, etc. could fill an encyclopedia.
