Did you hear about the Christmas concert at the Vatican where they once again honored Pachamama? Really -- they even urged the folks in the audience to cross their arms over their hearts so they could feeeeeel the heartbeat of Mother Earth.

You can't make this stuff up!

Do you think they had special hymns for Pachamama? She definitely needs a new age religion to update her pagan religion.

As Janet Baker at Restore D.C. Catholicism wrote, proselytizing for paganism is A-okay in Rome. It's just those pesky rigid Catholics who cling to the faith of our Fathers who may not proselytize. Shamans and witch doctors? They get the green light.

So....here's the old version of the song with the new Vatican lyrics beneath. Let's all learn to sing it to purge our rigid adherence to the truth as taught by Jesus Christ and get with the modern world. To limber up and shake off our rigidity we should first do the Hokey-Pokey.

Th Devil's Advocate Needs to Look at This One! Fulton Sheen and Teilhard de Chardin: Strange Bedfellows?

I've read many books by Fulton Sheen and watched a number of his old TV shows from Life is Worth Living. Much of what he's written is beautiful, insightful, and thought provoking. But one thing completely baffles me -- his fulminating admiration for Teilhard de Chardin. 

What got me thinking about this was a sermon I listened to from Pentecost Sunday contrasting the "Apostle of Rome," St. Phillip Neri, and Chardin, the "Apostle of Modern Thought," Chardin's story is creepy to say the least.

In his writings he describes an encounter in the desert with "The Thing" that sounds similar to the encounter Mohammed had in the desert with an angel, a dark angel for sure! As described, the event bears NO resemblance to any encounter with Christ any saint has ever described. I'm even curious as to whether the "companion" Chardin mentioned was a "spirit guide." Here's how Father described it in his sermon contrasting Chardin's bizarre encounter to the mystical union between St. Philip Neri and Jesus:

While we were biking on the Cayuga Waterfront Trail, we stopped to visit the Ithaca Children's Garden, a charming little spot designed just for the wee ones. There was obviously a New Age influence at the place since it had a giant turtle named Gaia with phases of the moon marked on her shell and also featured a labyrinth garden.

But the entire effect of the place was sweet with lots of beautiful flowers and mini spots (a troll house, for example) just the right size for children to play and imagine.

And the children who were there clearly enjoyed all the spots designed for their enjoyment including the rice paddy where several were dabbling in the water. One little boy assured me there were fish. He was trying to catch them.

Harry Potter -- Yes or No?

Over the years I've read plenty of commentary on Harry Potter. Some folks think the series was spawned in hell; others love it and think it's filled with great Christian imagery. I read the first few and thought they were okay for a child to read with close adult supervision, but I found some things in the books troubling. I think the series can be a real danger for kids in troubled homes or who have little wise adult guidance. I think they can also be a danger for badly catechized adults, the same type to be taken in by The DaVinci Code. (I was appalled how many ignorant Catholics believed it.) When I got to the fourth Potter book that started with a brutal murder I knew it definitely was not for twelve-year-olds. And yet how many parents pay attention to what their children are reading?

Wood also goes into Pullman's series, His Dark Materials. Pullman portrays the Catholic Church as the enemy and the demonic as the good. The series is the fulfillment of the prophecy that there will come a time when good is called evil and evil good. We're there big time. Is Harry Potter the "entry drug" into the occult?

Harry Potter: Agent of Conversion by Toni Collins This last article I found particularly interesting because the author came out of the occult and shares her views both yea and nay about the series. This is a defiinite must read for parents.
